Im a licensed funeral director and embalmer and I can tell you that if there is no surviving spouse the child or children of the deceased are the legal next of kin not siblings. The directors at that funeral home should know this. The son has a valid complaint with the Michigan State Board of funeral directors.

When all this first started the sister claimed they sit down with the son to make arrangements and they all agreed! I’m sure moon just through just like any other normal funeral. Moon couldn’t just release the body for all that they have did to prep the body. And by law moon can still charge for prep and storage of the body. Until a court order is determined

I'm willing to bet that May's family has always used this funeral home, and that's why they are going on like that. My aunts and uncles had the audacity to have one of my uncles call my mother, complaining about the fact that my dad was going to be cremated. They wanted him buried in Detroit - a place that he hated and barely visited once he left. That's because that was his birthplace, and most of his siblings were still living there. My dad wanted to be cremated. My mother told them that if they wanted him buried, they'd have to pay for whatever expenses that my dad's life insurance policy didn't cover. She knew how to get rid of them. That stopped the calls.

I agree with you and part of the reason is that a lot of our people die without a will, as Mr Mays did. Even having a will does not eliminate family drama because somebody ain't gonna be happy.

This is why it’s important to have a will so when you pass, it won’t be any mess like we see here.
It is soooo sad how death bring out such ugliness in families. You can't properly grieve b/c everyone and their momma have something to say. Is the son a DISTANT son meaning he just popped back up on the scene after years of no one hearing or seeing him? If not, allow the son to properly lay his father to rest.
No there are videos out here with Mr Mays saying that he and his son were estranged when his son's mother was living but when his son's mother passed away they amended their relationship and he said he wanted everything to go to his son if he passed away.
This is always an issue with our race... just complete a "Will", file with county and share final wishes with whomever you selected. This eliminates all of the internal family disagreements. I pray the family will unite and allow Mr. Mays remains to be at rest.
Even whwn there's a will family sometimes will contest, but most judges will rule in favor of the will.

You're correct but this is also why there are next of kin laws, and the siblings literally have no rights when the deceased has children. Furthermore it is clear that the siblings do not care too much for their brother because if they did they would not have been trying to put together a service with Ms. Fields, his public enemy as the speaker. I enjoyed Eric Mays❤. I listened to council meetings like I was a Flint resident. It’s truly upsetting to treat a rightful heir this way. Siblings cannot step on the toes of a child. Also in doing so are holding up burial. That’s just sick.

Sometimes people never fully detach from their family when they start their own families. Your original family will always be your family but once you get married and start having children, there should be a clear understanding, by your behavior, where everyone stands. This family never learned that and that has contributed to their unfortunate behavior. May the soul of the departed rest in peace and may his loved ones be comforted. Amen.

It happens all the time in our black families. People whom wouldn't even come and visit, call, check on you when you were alive yet want all entitlement when you pass away. His son should in fact be the sole overseer of his final arrangements. This is why it's so important for you to have an Advance Directives, living will, a proxy, healthcare surrogate anything that would prevent issues like this from happening.

It's really unfortunate that Erin before he passed away did not create a will. If he did and placed his son as the rightful heir to his estate then things would go alot smoother. But because he hasn't created a will. Everyone will need to lawyer up. And because of this most of Erin's estate maybe swallowed up in court fees. My brother passed in 2018 him and his wife were separated she made all of his funeral arrangements he left me beneficiary of his insurance policy and I helped her and one of my sisters got all in her feelings about where he should be buried and got his grown kid's involved by saying he wanted to be buried in Mississippi next to my mom and right now today she is still mad at me because he was around her more than me yeah but she was the one robbing him when he was drunk and passed out at her house this is some crap
