Let’s keep it 100% REAL . No shade to anyone at all . BTS did pave the way . I can explain this way …..ok let’s say there is vault with all k pop artists BTS had the combination to open the door , and instead of closing it …BTS did not shut that door they left it open so the other k pop artist can come out too . That’s just my way of describing how they pave the way .. FACT CHECK if you go on you tube and watch so many k pop artist literally saying BTS pave the way . PSY a great k pop artist he said BTS did what he wanted to do and that’s why he admire them so much . Let me say this for all the BLINKS I have nothing against black pink at all . I wish those lovely ladies nothing but continued success .i hope they get the contract they wanted 💜❤️🙂and always stay true to themselves

Imagine paving the way for others and the beneficiaries are also part of the hate train. BTS & ARMYs endured so much hate/racism breaking in to the west. The unappreciative Labels and fandoms should be praising instead of trying to bring us down.

The thing that amuses me is that after all this, BTS never "claimed" they paved the way.. not even a single member.. even when Namjoon read the message, he just said "cool".. But others have to shout on top of their lungs that they paved the way😂😂 you can never ever imagine BTS doing such cheap tricks.. They're not only kings, but are Humble Kings!

Honestly, i dont understand their hype. I've been in kpop since 2001 and have seen it become what it is, but every time someone tells me BP opened up doors and lead the way for many others, i just dont see it. First, i dont see them as singers or performers. They're not great at it. If im honest, they're more known outside of music, more in fashion, which is fine. However, to call yourself a singer or a music artist, you actually need to sing and perform, write music. Other than Rose, the other 3 are just there for the looks.

Let’s have a serious, logical, respectful discussion. If BP paved the way, what did they do to help other artists coming up after them? How did they make things easier for them? Because doing those things is what paving the way means right?

    • @Ju1Si
      @Ju1Si 11 месяцев назад +16

paving the way for me is literally that, making a road.. not taking someone’s hand after and leading them on that road. taking the paved way is entirely the “next one”s choice/job to do, instead of breaking their (next one) backs to pave a walkable new one. so I’m not sure what way you expect this discussion to go. cool to discuss things though.. sure.
just to clarify - from my limited knowledge of k-pop and its influence around the world (discovered it after the pandemic. yeah I lived under a huge rock apparently in this regard with overwhelming amount of people in my country), those who paved the way, internationally at least, were PSY for some and BTS for the majority that I see. I personally only discovered there is BP only after discovering BTS and thinking oh I’ll check what else is there. I will not say anything negative about them cause I don’t think they deserve negativity. don’t see where they supposedly paved the way though. oh well 😊
on second thought… maybe female aspect? a version of female empowerment in Korea? somewhere in those lines would make some sense maybe. donno

You’re very diplomatic. BP’s “pave the way” lyrics, stating it boldly, targets them for disagreement and shows their ego-no need to be humble or appreciative of where you came from when you’re that famous.
I feel that BP has lost their creative drive. It seems they have become a money-making machine controlled by their marketing team. They appear insincere, soulless, losing their creative edge, who see themselves as “badass and beautiful” but it’s not them really talking.

When I saw the lyrics of the song and who had credits I honestly just laughed. I couldn’t take the paved the way line seriously in the least because no one besides their fans has ever said that about Blackpink.
    1) Clearly the lyrics were meant to poke the bear aka ARMY and in some ways it worked. Outrage marketing is still a thing. However, I won’t say that it poked the bear enough for anyone else to pick up on outside of twitter beef between the fandom because the streams were low and it didn’t move on any chart.
    2) Melanie Fontana has a long-standing axe to grind with ARMYs. Don’t know if she wrote that particular lyric, but one can only wonder… 👀
    3) YG is great at using the genuine things said about BTS by others and applying it to Blackpink. They’ve consistently attached themselves to BTS ever since BTS began gaining in the US, whether it be indirect or explicit comparisons. They have spent tons of money getting the public to perceive that Blackpink are the female equivalent of BTS, even if numbers and global impact say otherwise. Having the girls say they “paved the way” is just another way that YG is hitching Blackpink’s wagon to BTS’ star.
    4) I’ve mostly had to move past rappers needing to write their raps because it’s an open secret that nowadays even the biggest names in hiphop have ghostwriters. *BUT* I at least have to BELIEVE that they wrote them. Believability is so important in this era of hiphop and I simply don’t believe Blackpink with this “paved the way” line. Even if Jennie wrote it… nah she doesn’t seem the type to lie to herself like that lol.

Fun Fact: do you know why BP has such high youtube numbers that don't quiet fit with the rest of their numbers?
Because they put their MVs in the commercials that play with you don't buy out of that. That was btw a very real tool for charting before it was axed in 2019 (?). Taylor Swift and Co. did do it, too. It became too much when an Indian (?) singer nearly broke a record, too and the practice was stopped. There are articles about it.
YG is very good at pretending to be bigger than their artists actually are and to a certain degree it also makes them actually that great (or it could if they filled it with substance).
I think they may be in trouble now because from what the rumors are saying only Rose is resigning - but maybe that is only a rumor. We will have to wait for the official announcement.

It's a bit sad that BP's keeps getting into scandals in relation to BTS (YG's early comments about BTS's success, dating sandal, and now this) because they have the ability to shine on their own and uplift fellow artists instead of putting them down. Unfortunately I don't think that would ever happen. YG never gives BP their own voice, they just like to cosplay feminism and girl power for profit, which is so sad to see. I don't think that the girls can look back on their career and be proud of their legacy, but hey I guess as long as they're making money they're okay with being complicit with morally dubious actions.

Don't forget that BTS paved the way, so the others could enter easily. BP got more popular after BTS enter the global market.

In my own opinion, I feel like BP and their fans do things to engage BTS ARMY. All the views, comments, all of that still count as views, streams, so they're not losing anything, they're actually gaining. Their fan/fandom often attach themselves to BTS, videos, fake pictures, anything and everything with BTS, yet on the other hand, BTS does not do that to them or anybody else. BP, I think is not that big of a deal, look at Twice, New Jeans, their accomplishments. BP, advantage because they have a U.S. platform and U.S. people to help them in the western industry. Bora City, provided proof that BP is forcing views and streamers to view and stream because of their advertisement before viewing and streaming. The other female groups, are achieving just as much as BP, but they don't have the fandom or western industry help like BP does. It's disheartening to see the attachment to BTS all the time with BP and their fan/fandoms. I would have to disagree, I do believe 100% that they do know the meaning of that, "We Paved The Way", that's why they have that. Free publicity comes with controversy and that's what they're counting on and getting. They are really adapting to western tactics. It's hard for me to understand why they are considered the girl group, when their concerts are a hit or a miss, never consistent in all aspects, vocally, choreography, energy, why? In a video that Bora City put out, BP is in that video, stating they want to be the ones to open the door, this is after BTS had already knocked the door down. I think they're mastering the controversy tactics very well and keeping attention on themselves through this more so than by their art. I don't mind them, listen to them once in a while, but they are not the best girl group, performance wise, vocal, which is part of their art, so creating controversy is a great tactic to get people engaged. BTS is pure art, don't have to attach to anybody, don't have to use cheap tactics.

Thank you for your take on this.
I personally don't like BlackPinks music.
    That's just me.
I do respect them for their hard work.
Just like I respect everyone who's in this line of business.
    It isn't easy.
I know for a fact that the concerts weren't sold out.
I've been to a concert of them with a friend because, she likes them.
She likes them because, BlackPink are girls related to her personally as you have to like them because, of woman/girls empowerment.
I have to admit the concert was kind a disappointing.
My friend as a diehard BlackPink fan was disappointed as well.
If I'm honest I don't think YG did wrong towards the members of BlackPink.
Look at what they've done for them.
They bought radioplay etc for them.
    They gave them their training.
    Made deals with Disney etc.
They had their solo albums and promoted them.
    They did some acting etc.
They contacted famous singers to collaborate with them.
Gave them happy go lucky songs where you don't really have to think about a deeper meaning of the lyrics/messages.
That you can easily sing and dance to even when you are drunk.
It is understandable to me that they actually believe that they paved the way.
The whole K-Pop award genre in the states isn't their due to BlackPink.
It is their due to the fact that in the states you also have Latino's awards etc because, they don't want cerain musicians to over shadow the english native American musicians.
YG isn't that bad because, how they put BlackPink together was/is very smart by taking girls from different countries and form a group. You know every country supports the musician from their native country.
    So BlackPink profited from it.
Plus at the moment the Hype about woman empowerment.
To me there are better Korean musicians but, not all of those musicians have a powerful company like YG behind them.
I truly believe that BlackPink wouldn't be so big if they started out from a smaller and less connected and pour company.
In Europe there were boybands like Take That etc so as a countermeasure there was a girlband like Spice Girls.
    This happened with BlackPink too.
Also some of the things BlackPink is doing have been done before by others.
So they are not original and are not paving the way.
They are only using what is already there.
YG is doing a good job for them.
YG deserves a compliment because, BlackPink what they are now would never have been this big as they are now.
Each member of BlackPink is doing a lot of things due to YG on the side.
It doesn't matter that the members don't write their own lyrics.
Not everyone is capable of writing.
    They can sing and dance.
    So that's good.
Sorry, I respect every member of BlackPink but, I've seen better live concerts with female musicians far better then them.
Of course to my personal taste of music and depth of lyrics etc.
    Sorry, for the long comment.
    Warm greetings from The Netherlands

@@beraty.6899 yes that's also true, but let's be real, the only kpop act to have b-sides in the top 10 most streamed songs in Spotify in each year is BTS.
Even if we'll remove BTS songs to match BP's songs, I'll still bet for BTS, because BP's greatest strength is their title tracks w/ videos. That's why their streams don't match their views.
I've seen a lot of BP ads too. Which is very convenient for them because it only takes 3 seconds for blinks or muggles for it to be counted as view because their channel did not put it in MUSIC category but as VLOGS. Meanwhile it takes at least 30secs for BTS MV's for it to be counted as view.
But that's beside my point, even if it's really just because BTS works hard and has a lot of music compared to BP, it still doesn't change the fact that BP is nowhere near them unlike what they portray them to be as equal to BTS but only girl version. Hahhahaha NO.
BP is probably the biggest girl group internationally, I won't deny facts because I don't want to discredit how hard their company use mediaplay.

I am a big Kpop lover for many many years now. For me, although I recognize their success, I do not like them. I think there is one dancer and one singer and two others who ride on their visuals. Perhaps I become a true fan from being able to like, respect and “idolize” the artist and I do not have enough to be a fan in that sense. After Jennie IG’d photos of herself wearing the exact outfit as she wore in photos of her and V on a date in France, I can see Jennie’s true face. She basically stated that it is true but without V’s acceptance to do the same. Hide it or come out to say they are dating, it is up to them as a couple to do but to come out by herself to do so is damaging to V.
BP is now losing their lustre bcz there are new girl groups in the new generation of KPop that are shining and have early success that took BP much longer to reach their level of success. That HBO series Jennie did for her first acting job was a mess and the role she chose to do as her first acting debut again, tell me how Jennie is. Sorry but I am not a fan.

I don't think anyone of them had written any songs, I saw an interview and you can tell how they are lying. I don't like that. It is never true, when you say fake it until you make. in this case it is lying. BTS' have the best, well-thought off lyrics and has a storyline. Every BTS' songs is just perfect for me. I jumped into the ARMY. Plus, the ARMYs are just incredible human beings. Lisa is a good dancer, well that is because she was initially a dancer and to be honest, sorry, same old choreography. The numbers never lie. BTS had always paved the way for everyone. Yes, the lyrics for 'girls' is a dissed track. just a ploy to create a stirs story.. thank you for being very logical. This song makes me feel like YG or BP wanted a song like Run BTS, since both songs (to put it very loosely) is about flexing their success.
But run bts makes sense since it's a song that marks their decade long journey, talks about their immense hardwork and never stop attitude, flexes about their true success but still feels and sounds humble and most importantly it promotes the fact that hardwork will help everyone achieve their dreams because the song literally tells ARMY and others to Run towards their goals as well! Also it was written/produced by some members of BTS and in house producers.
This song on the other hand doesn't make sense for a game? Like what do the lyrics have to do with the game? It's not even written by the girls, except Jennie I guess. It also flexes a lot but not about their hardwork, hardships and never give up attitude. It rather flexed about them paving the way (which makes no sense), them being topping the charts (what charts?), them destroying their rivals and if not for them there won't be anyone glorious enough left. All of the above has nothing to do with real success and real love from fans or even writing a song that will help fans in feeling motivated and good about themselves.
For me BP is all about flexing about money, style, and a "I'm the greatest" personality and YG does have an uncanny obsession with BTS since they are trying to make the girls a female equivalent of BTS.
All this song did for me was to make me miss Run BTS and go stream it😅

true musicianship is when a rapper actually writes their lyrics. rap is based on personal stories and thoughts. how can it be personal when you didn't write it. learning rap & hip hop is not the same as knowing and living hip hop music and its influence. for a song i can see some co-writing or someone writing your song. although i still have more respect for those that can do it all themselves or have part in the creative process. but that's neither here nor there. but a diss track you didn't write is moronic. and sincerely they have not paved the way for k pop, that road was already paved by a band of 7 brothers named BTS. now if you want to say you high up there compared to other female groups, maybe. are you much different, I don't think so. i only ever hear about 2 members, most of their songs and image sound like other songs I've heard by female k pop groups. are they pretty i guess so, to me they look like many other female idols (plastic surgery) works wonders. but i could care less for looks. the music is what should be important and its subpar to me. sorry for the rant. i love watching your videos.

Anyway, I was so disappointed at their live performance. The singing was bad, lack of energy, not in sync while dancing. It was very crinchy to watch. I guess I was expecting BTS level of performance when BTS was on GMA and other US TV shows. I stop being a fan after seeing them performed on that show. I think BP are pretty, very fashionable, and their music videos are very good, but seriously, they are not BTS level and they did not pave the way. BTS paved the way. BP definitely did their part for paving the way for new gen GGs. We all take it for granted about hardships for female idols in terms of opportunities and misogynistic system in SK. I don't think in recent times apart from BP there have been female idols who have achieved the status of global star (I'd count Tiffany, CL as 2nd gen) but lately you will see a lot of emerging names. Still a long way to go but the potential is definitely there. A lot of kpop acts before BTS and BP made short lived noise in the West so I'd say that's also paving the way. I also don't appreciate that we consider 'paving the way' defined by Western accolades. SNSD, 2NE1 , SJ, BB etc all have done a great job to stabilize and expand kpop in asian and European markets; despite not being in a stream-first era which is a lot easier now. Example: Cupid

    • @ruthfischer7615
      @ruthfischer7615 11 месяцев назад +14

Cupid owns that success to an English version and a buy into getting that version viral on Tiktok (paid for it).
      and "paved the way"?
not really. Twice is at the moment more successfull in the US since at least last year.
If you want to understand what really "paved the way" means - and people are not really seeing the difference between boy or girl groups in Idol music - it's all K-pop to them - I'd try vids like
"how BTS paved the way" by bby gang mag (you will most likely like this one)
"bts paved the way, why is it so hard to accept it?" boracity magazine
and even this channel has a few vids on that theme:
"Worst disrespects thrown at BTS and How they put people in their place: BTS paved the way Part 1"
"How BTS paved the wax Part 2: BTS' impact on the US & Europe perception of Korean Artists"
"Who will surpass BTS WHY BTS is the best pop group in the world BTS as artist #btspavedtheway"
"How BTS chapter 2 affects Asians going after the US market How BTS paved the way for Asian artists"
"BTS records that will never be broken The first act to archieve this #btspavedtheway"
BoA and TVXQ concquered the Japanese market btw. There are girlgroups that found big success there after.
DKDKTV "KPOP history in 20 miutes: from Seo Taiji to BTS" (a bit old but gets it mostly)
Do you want to know why BP has so many views on their MVs (which does not fit their other numbers)?
because they put their MVs in the commercials of youtube. Which btw counted till 2019 (?) also for charts - Taylor Swift also did that - it was once a legal practice to get high numbers. You can google articles for that.

With all due respect, I personally totally disagree with you.
1st thing 1st, I didn't understand your point of Born Pink concert and it being "not sold out" but YG still showing it as a "sold out" thing, I'd be great if someone can explain me that
Now, I know as usual people (including you) likes to come to the fact that "they don't write their music" but does that make "Paved the way" line a lie? I don't think so cos as much as people hate to admit this but BLACKPINK and BTS are the groups who paved the way for k-pop to be as popular as it is now in the world so them saying this line is not at all lie when it comes to K-POP girl groups.
Now, "The Girls" being a "diss" track... Specially as you said 'now I'm waiting for TWICE to respond' so you believe it's a diss towards TWICE. Well, I must be tripping here cos I don't understand how and Why would Blackpink "diss" a group with whom they share a really lovely and close bond (to the point where both groups attend and enjoy each others concerts). Personally I don't think this song was targeted towards any group but instead it was for the people who are doing nothing but criticizing them (while attending their concerts and streaming their music lol). It's also for the people who are saying that boy band are better than GGs.. song's name is "The Girls" not "The Blackpink" right? They are talking on behalf of the "Girls" not dissing any group as you said.
Now about your analogy (which is quite interesting to say the least) of taking eminem's words And performing it brilliantly with some changes but it won't be "original"or have ANY weight to it but that just BS to me.... I'm from INDIA and here in Bollywood music songs have always been written by the "lyricist" and sung by "singers" but people cry their heart out on emotional Bollywood songs and dance their @ss off on up-beat Bollywood songs, and that's just impossible if the songs or "lyrics" don't have the weight to them so it can be said to Blackpink too, right? I've seen many many reaction channels where they didn't even knew who blackpink is but still cried when they heard "happiest girl'' and it wasn't written by any of the blackpink member so does the song wich have lyrics of "no weight" can make basically stranger cry? I don't think so.
I Totally Respect Your Opinions but I can't disagree more with anyone right now. You totally missed it by thinking this song was a 'diss' track towards any other groups.

I can confirm that their concerts were not sold out but advertised that they were. When they came to my city, they had 2 small arena shows and it was not sold out. Prior to the tickets going on sale, there was a lot of hype that the shows will sell out instantly, etc etc. so first I was surprised they were doing the shows at a small venue in our city versus larger venues (I’m from a large city). Then all my friends that wanted to see them, had absolutely no issues getting tickets. I also had soooo many friends try to resell their tickets with no bite at all even till the day of the concert. Then I keep seeing that their concerts were sold out so I did look on Ticketmaster for tickets in other cities and there were a lot of available tickets even a week before the concert, and they weren’t even resell tickets (resell tickets would say that they’re resell tickets). They were original tickets. This whole ordeal made me realize, a lot of their popularity might just be a marketing effort. Don’t get me wrong, they are super popular. But their popularity is somewhat inflated is all I’m saying

Rap is traditionally perform by the writers of the words because they are essentially poetry performed. Singing is traditional performed by singers. Not by lyricists who are more like poets. She was talking rap. Rhythm And Poetry.

YG media play. Even with BP's concert tour attendance data. YG claiming attendees of a festival in the data, just to make BP the biggest/most attended tour, when it was not, is just laughable. You can NOT claim festival numbers in the data, as festivals have multiple artists performing. YG, father of mediaplay.

When you said that there's lyricist behind the singer's songs in India, yet it's still able to move the audience.
That actually just means the singer's are great "performers", they're not considered artist at all. Cause "art" is expressing one self.
Same goes with Black Pink, they can rap that's for sure, but they're not real rappers or MC unless they actually write their own lyrics.
Black Pink is basically a typical normal idol group that only has great marketing strategy.
As a group they're not known for their rapping, dancing nor singing. I guess they're more known for their advertisement and controversy.

Also "Paved the way" doesn't apply to Black Pink. Cause if you say it's for "girl group", then that's not true at all cause they aren't helping, Twice, New Jeans, Red Velvet, Mamamo, and other Kpop girl groups get known in the US or globally.
BTS paving the way however is fact, cause without BTS, Kpop wouldn't be as big or recognized globally as it now. Thanks to BTS, Black Pink can gets famous too, cause media just loves to say Black Pink is the Queen of Kpop and they are equivalent to BTS.
      Even though that's completely FALSE.
BP is indeed the biggest Kpop girl group but if really compared to BTS, looking at the real stats like the streams, sales, sold out tickets and not just the RUclips views, and Instagram following cause that's the only thing Blinks care about, BTS is way bigger, at least 3x bigger than Black Pink

i have to say that surprised me. i thought if there was anyone who was going to pack first, it would be Rose. But then, i dunno, maybe it's PR.

i thought of the 4, she would be the one that's most concerned about releasing more music, group or solo. and maybe she included it in her negotiations (if the rumors are true) but given YG's track record and the return of Yang Hyun Suk, there is more possibility that they would keep the same cadence in how they release music.
But there's lots we don't know. It's her music I like the most so I hope she gets to release music as often as she wants. It's a real wasted opportunity if someone who has the skill isn't given an opportunity to cover as much ground as she can.

Ohhhhhh so what I'm getting from this is that madam Rose has potential to flourish but YG is holding her back, thus you thought she'd be the one to leave, right?
But wouldn't you say Lisa too has potential as she is a very good performer? And them releasing & performing once in a blue moon, I could imagine, must be tiring for her.@@AsianEntertainmentandCulture

oh yeah. I think that Lisa is the one that can conquer the stage. I think she has the potential to be a young Madonna (transported and evolved with modern day trends and artistry of course). If it is true that she is being pursued by international labels, it makes the most sense. I think the Crazy Horse would serve as an "international showcase".
But I also think that she is the most consistent with YG's branding. That's why I thought she would opt to stay. i also think YG failed to maximize her potential. She should have been pushed more and packaged better. I think... they didn't take her personality in consideration properly when she promoted her solo album. I think they pushed her to fit an image they wanted for her rather than starting with what she has and letting that grow and show. She has done great but she could have done greater.
As for Rose, I definitely think she has potential artistically and yes, I think YG held her back. Had I been YG, I would have let Rose release her music regularly. Maybe not each release is supported as much as the others, but I would let her just release her music until she finds her identity.
