I was new to the game, though I’d watched and read a bunch about th e mechanics. Right south of my starting evac shelter was a lovely dairy barn full of happy, living cows. As I wandered the farmhouse, dreams of a lovely base with daily fresh milk in my head, I suddenly heard horrible noises coming from the pasture. I went to check, only to find a pair of horror ke purple Cthulhu monsters methodically tearing each of my happy cow friends to pieces! They killed them so quickly I didn’t have time to get away myself. That was how I learned about Day 1 😂
Thanks for the video! It's worth noting that mi-go (and I assume other aliens) will fight zombies, so if you have a mi-go chasing you it can be distracted by running by some zombies. Also, keep a watch for turrets at road blocks, although turrets will also fight zombies so as long as there are zombies between you and the turret it's fairly safe. Of course the gunfire from the turret will attract more zombies....
The only real time to fight a mi-go in melee on the first few days is if you, 1 have a decent dodge value, 2 a martial art that you can use to defeat them, and 3, you don't plan on fighting anything else that day.
Just recently started in CDDA and i must say it's something. Your videos definitely help a lot and explain some things that are not directly shown in the game. One thing that i would add to this video are other non-zombie enemies. I started on a new "regular" world (everything in default, survivor in a shelter, etc.) and found a couple plant monstrosities, stumbling later upon a something like a plant queen? Didn't have the guts to get closer to them and one plant thing was chasing me a bit... I presume there are far many more enemies to include, which you could potentially meet, but a few more types could be useful too (unless there is a video coming about it heh). Still, great job and thanks for the videos!
@@greninjagreen_11 Well i can say today that i have far more experience with the variety of enemies and i would definitely not get closer to any Triffids... As any such decision resulted in quick death ^^;
I’d like to add a small detail on the mi-go. Not entirely sure if this is still a mechanic, but they will try to flee if you’re able to get their health low enough (about 1/5 in my experience). If you have a gun with limited ammo, you don’t have to waste all of it on killing the mi-go; just get it to low health and let it run (they don’t regen health). All of that is still for desperate circumstances only, however.
i came back to the game after some really long hyatus, and i must say, i had to look up tutorials as i forgot how to do a lot of stuff, as always thanks for the videos
Really enjoy your content, I think bringing yourself to a steady state with voice really makes you more comfortable communicating and your great content gets to help more players :]
Murders of mutated crows, packs of zombie dogs, fast things that spawn in groups can absolutely mess you up in the early game. And recently spear wielding ferals. Theyve got a reach attack and can open doors
Yeah, the spear wielding "cunning feral" is absolutely the most deadly, but the least common of the ferals. All ferals, as well as mi-gos, can open doors now - including the doors to your vehicle.
On a recent run I spawned with a fema camp right out of one window and a roadblock out the other. Managed to go from long pointy stick to fully armored and having a small arsenal on day one by getting the zombies to flail uselessly at the riot platforms and poking them from a tile away
If you’re messing around the wrong kind of lab you might encounter a star vampire. Load a save or start over if it manages to grab you. It’s one of the few threats that new characters have absolutely zero counterplay against. It’s always invisible & has full nightvision.
Maybe! We'll definitely touch on it when we get to melee weapons. The main thing for players to know is just that some enemies have better armor against certain damages. There's some more niche stuff but it doesn't come up all the time.
Cut is an overall strong damage type, but it often lacks against armor. Bash is the most utilitarian, allowing you to smash things effectively as well as get the upper hand on armored enemies. Pierce lacks the utility of blunt damage and the high damage potential of cut, but is often associated with ranged and reach weapons that offer their own advantages, as well as some poorly defined benefit against armor.
Quarterstaves are amazing early game weapons, with a strong parry and knockdown option and high blunt damage capable of cracking more challenging threats once you get some practice in. Do not underestimate the value of a weapon with the Parry trait that also comes with some kind of knockdown or stun (like the cudgel, the quarterstaffs little cousin)
I tried to start a new game without first watching an in-depth tutorial. I was scouting out a town next to my starting location, and there were a bunch of soldier zombies there, then when I tried to leave I was spotted by a bunch of running zombies and ended up getting killed.
Damage of rocks is nothing, the main problem for me is that they DESTROY clothes. For me it is like this, if rock is thrown there is almost no way it doesn't tear something.
My useless tip is a WOODEN CLUB IS OP. Seriously, its VERY cheap to craft, its have a quick attack, strong block and even STUN. If you have low weight equipment, then this weapon turns to massacre device.
Axe ferals are not a specific feral type, the derranged axeman, who is not given rocks to throw. However, they got buffed to deal fire axe damage that the player can do... or maybe not? Hard to say with experimental builds. But with axe ferals not guaranteed to drop fire axes anymore, it doesn't support the whole, "must deal full fire axe damage" if you find one drops a hachet. xD But also of note, the changes to ballistic armor has the ceramic plates able to shatter and of course, feral rocks are excelent at compromising your ballistic ceramic plates. =P
just a quick one i dont know if anyone else mentioned it yet, when you put an overlay text on the screen for the keypresses put a note in there that it is the key for the action you are doing on screen instead of just the key character on its own, specifically talking about the huge yellow "@" character i was at first confused as to what that means or why is there a big yellow "@" sign on the screen then i just realized its the shift+2 ("@") keystroke/character key you are referring to. would be nice to have some kind of "Key to access the character sheet menu "@" " as the message to avoid such confusion for the viewers :)
i realize now you do say it out loud so maybe something lighter like "character sheet" - @ (or the proper name of the menu instead of "character sheet")
@@vojtechsoukup2302 I won't lie, I'm not 100% on what you're asking. I try to put them on screen when I mention a key and I usually say something like 'In the character menu, which is the @ symbol by default'. I did at the start of the series say which key things were if it was a symbol but I kinda fell out of doing that because I figured people would be annoyed by that.
There are a few tricks, but I'm by no means an expert. The thing I hear people say is to fight in a well-lit room where you're in a corner because I think they either spawn or duplicate or something in shadows or behind you or something? I'm not really sure, you'd have better luck asking on the Discord. They are HUGELY obnoxious though, I don't think I've ever successfully fought them off.
Man, things are so much better than they were back in the 0.A and 0.B days. Just boomers and acid zombies everywhere on day 1, and chicken walkers down every road.
question should I copy my habits which is mostly stealth focused from Project Zombiod to CDDA and would they be effective in CDDA sorry if the grammar doesn't work
I will eventually make a video about 'tactics'. Stealth is not really a thing in Cataclysm. You CAN sneak around and there are times when that's beneficial, but you can't stealth kill enemies. I would say it's less about stealth and more about knowing when to fight and when to retreat.

Bit late, but I'm pretty sure you're talking about either Triffids or Fungaloids.

They do still flee, yes.

Coming back after a long time and the video isn't boring! I appreciate it since it really gets the rusty gears going in my brain.

Oversized crows are easy to deal with. Just scream at them a couple of times and they will flee.
If you want to be immune to pain, the Medical mutation line is !!fun!! You'll go crazier than a bag of cats, though.

I had this at a Evac shelter recently very fun start
Real armor helps, a lucky museum and mansions can have a lot of fun objects for your Strong and Tough characters
Is it just me or is it like dramatically more difficult to break a grab from a tough zombie?
i mean they are tough
Martial arts have grab-breaks! Get thee to a Dojo!

I was under the impression that star vampires were from a mod and not vanilla
Good video! I really appreciate adding timestamps.
Can u do a tutorial on damage types (cut, bash, and pierce) and explain the pros and cons of each type?

I met a mi-go on day one, I punched it once and it ran away.
Vey good video! This is still very useful.
I would actually chance going for ferals first day if you can because they're the most likely source of getting a crowbar.

That is ultica, which is the default when you install the game.
it kinda sucks that they removed using alcohol as a antiseptic

Can i get a bite wound from a dirty backpack on my outer layer of clothes
What is character avg hp?
It's affected by your strength and it's affected by several traits. For an 8 str character with no traits I believe it's 84.
