Look at that, greta craft, wind and soundtrack! Im finishing the details on my own kayak sailrig built from plans [wood/fiberglass] I had it out last year and worked on and off through the winter on it. Gonna be a september sail. I tried sailing it as a single outrigger proa. Forget it. That terrific sail loading you get with the insurance of stability afforded by two amas instead of one is well illustrated in your vid. Genuinely a good experience watching you underway. Inspiring.
So very cool, I haven't wanted a material possession so badly since I was a kid (a couple of decades ago and it was a monkey bike). I go to sleep at night thinking about my upcoming Hobie tandem.
Would you believe I recently completed the craft but with the cold nipping in now and colder resukting waters Im wondering if Im going to end up sailing in April when these same temps will feel like a heat wave. I have enjoyed Timsnape channel with his portland to weymouth. Gotta love the pub scenes thrown in.
LUV your Tandem Island Videos! Helped me convenience my wife we needed one. We have sailed our Tandem completely around Cape Cod this Summer ! Jealous of your location, too cold to sail in New England now. Curious as what video camera you use, and if you could tell me about how you made your pole mount, for your other videos. THANKS for the Inspiration!
Helpful video - I've been on the fence for a while on whether I wanted to buy a couple of these or go literally move up to a 30(ish) foot catalina style sailboat - the expense of a full blown sailboat doesn't interest me right now which is why I'm looking at the tandem(s). What would you say the pros / cons have been in your experience?
lol... I seem to recognize those spray skirts, looks like Bob Conlon's work. you may want to try rigging them tighter, yours are a bit too loose. Me and Bob run them drum tight. he's my kayak fishing partner. nice run, by the way.
@6987jasonakin you need to see some other ti vids. he's definitely not being towed. the boats are fast and as hull speed craft are easily overpowered. thats why they make so much spray. there are plenty of other examples of these boats going this fast with no other boat in sight.
Hey, i was wondering how you adjust the sail to catch the wind best, I want to build my own, but i dont know how i should rig the sail. Maybe use a 420 jib, but I have no idea. Or perhaps an extra sail for this kayak would work.

Im curious how much sail do you normally fly in 15-20 knot winds? When do you begin to reef?
do you think this tandem kayak can get out 10 to 20 miles to fish
It's looks like an adventure island but, it is a tandem
