    Koalas live in a specific type of gum-tree, if there are none of those trees in your area, you won't see them, they sleep all day. They only move around when their own tree has not enough eucalyptus leaves to eat, or as a young adult, they have to leave mum and find their own home tree. You can find out how to get those trees from the no tree, no me website. Koalas need tree corridors to get enough leaves from, in the dry season. Having to cross roads is a huge problem for them though. Don't approach them either, they are grumpy and have huge claws and sharp teeth, just like possums. Big gum trees drop a lot of leaves, some drop huge branches as well, so not usually wanted in a house yard, and do not pitch a tent under their shade, you do not get much warning that a limb is about to crash down.

    If you are growing any type of fruit in your backyard you definitely do not want to attract any cockatoos. But rainbow lorikeets are especially attracted to any native gravillia flowering shrub. Once they become used to your presence they allow you quite close and begin chattering to you as they go from flower to flower. Other times they will hang upside down looking at you as they chatter.

    I have never got over the thrill of seeing the Australian animals. I have seen Koala 🐨 in the wild and platypus near where I live in Victoria. I also saw dingoes in Alice Springs in the wild. While camping a dingoes pup came to play. Another animal you don't pat. I also love the dawn chorus in Oz, so loud and raucous. The English one is so soft.
    Snakes, I give them a wide birth and great respect. I remember nearly treading on a Tiger snake on my way to my obstetric appointment back in 1985! I had both my girls in a bush nursing hospital and snakes were often around. Have you seen Wombats yet? Fabulous animals, at Wilson's Prom in Victoria there are loads. Unfortunately with the severity of the bushfire season now we are seeing the wildlife suffer. A whole colony of Koala's were lost near Halls Gap in the Grampians due to fire some years ago. It was so sad because you could just walk and see so many, now none. When you move to your bush block you will see so much more.

    • @TheBAMFamalam
      @TheBAMFamalam  2 года назад

      Oh wow, no we haven't seen wild wombats yet. We have noticed a big difference after our bushfires here, that there is much less wildlife, it is so sad.

    The "bin chickens" are actually ibis. In the cities, they tend to gather around dumpsters for food, mainly because of the lack of natural grassy areas. I live at Port Stephens, and all the ibises that I see are usually feeding in open fields. Also, they are very good flyers!

      Used to be a common occurence here in Cairns back in the 50s and 60s.
