I had my 9600 upgraded, now it's output is 200 watts per channel. It's really crazy and love playing brothers in arms to.

They say that the young man wants to leave home while the old man wants to return. Your receiver appears to be in great condition and reminds me of my first stereo system which consisted of a Luxman rosewood veneer turntable with an ADC LMF-1 tonearm & Staton 881S cartridge, and Klipsch La Scala speakers powered by the mighty KR-9600. Back in the day we all used to blast our music at top volume to the tunes of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jesse Colin Young, and Pink Floyd. Those were the days, my friend. I thought they'd never end.

Hi, I found a pair of 636 in a garage audio sale in Buenos Aires. After some work, they beat everyone else speaker I have arround. It is a frequency killer, the bass are incredible at low volume, no need to use loudness or other filter, no equalization. Just the musical scene is fantastic.

Great speakers. I have the Acoustic Control Corp 626 speakers. I came across them randomly and they have also became my favorite speakers. Not well known at all but there amplifiers and bass amps were top of the line in the 70's with many musicians choosing their gear. The 626 speakers are simply awesome...

A really sweet example of vintage 70's stereo. I saw (seen??) this unit at a friends hifi repair shop and seriously thought about buying it. He, surprisingly, suggested I not buy the 9600 as (like you mentioned) the power supplies are almost impossible to find. Pity, such a swell looking receiver and with a terrific pre-amp section.
I bought a Hitachi SR-804 in 1979 and still use it as my main amp. Very nicely done video. Most Kenwood receivers of the day were short on "features" but supplied Kick-Ass power. This KR-9600 had both, fuhgeddaboudit.

      Thanks for your explanation.
I also had a Kenwood stereo system back in the 80's. But it was not a Receiver but a Amplifier and not a high end one. But it still gave good sound quality. Happy memories!

@@janath9118, a good friend had a Kenwood KA-7100 amp, Large Advents and Technics semi auto DD turntable (SL-D2) in early 1980's and that amp was a powerhouse. Always research before buying "vintage audio". Shop wisely and caveat emptor.

@@martyjewell5683 I noted your details regarding the Kenwood amplifier. Thank you for your advice about vintage audio buying!

@@janath9118, Kenwood has always offered value in their stereo receiver lines from the lowly KR-1400 (10wpc) to this beast. The main virtue of Kenwood's were the amp/preamp section and FM section. Pioneer, Sansui and Technics offered more features at comparable prices but you could hear the difference in a Kenwood. I helped a friend set up her hifi system in early 1980's and she had a Kenwood KR-710 (28wpc), EPI-100, Pioneer CTf500 and Technics SL-D2. Remarkably good sound from and inexpensive system.
Not to change the subject but, don't overlook brands like Hitachi, Onkyo, Nikko, Yamaha or Sony for good "vintage" components. Not as "in demand" as Pioneer, Marantz, Kenwood or Sansui but also not as expensive. When purchasing vintage audio remember, caveat emptor my friend.

@@martyjewell5683 Hello, I noted about the special things about Kenwood Receivers from you. I don't know much about the technical side of these but I always thought that Pioneer, Sansui and Technics were I a higher class than Kenwood.
When you said that you helped a friend set up her hi fi system in the early 80's, I remembered about that Kenwood KR 710, 28 W.P.C. Receiver, because I saw it in the showroom at that time. But I just missed it due to my budget limits and instead bought the KA 30 Amplifier with 25 W.P.C.
Out of the brands you mentioned, I think Nikko ceased production a long time ago. In the locality where I live in Asia finding good vintage components are difficult. Anyway thank you again for your valuable information and the advice!

In this video just a 3.5mm male jack to rca connects cable in to aux input on receiver, link below but if you want best quality sound, I use a dac in between. Ill reply again with a link to a cool dac that also does bluetooth streaming. Easy to use.

Here is the dac I mentioned, is also plugs in to aux input on back of receiver. There are many many dacs and can get very pricey. This one is very affordable and maybe the best $100 I have spent. Long story short, it sounds much better than just using your phone by itself with the 3.5mm cable.

From an old guy perspective, these appear to be a bargain in todays prices, do you agree??? 165 RMS for way less than 90-100 RMS pioneers?

    • @BIGAZSPEAKERS
      @BIGAZSPEAKERS  2 года назад +1

I couldn't agree more. The 9600 can be tricky as the outputs are near impossible to find non counterfeit replacements for. The KR-9050 is an easier choice as it has easier to find parts, but I do love the KR-9600 regardless. Just be careful buying one that the outputs are original and working.
