  • This is the first lesson you will get in marquetry if you come down to our group in Hatch End, Harrow, close to Pinner. Les shows a technique that has evolved as materials and tools have developed. The use of sticky tape rather than veneer tape, the use of different cutting knives, different veneers etc. This is a demonstration of the window method, a recent innovation in marquetry techniques.

Is that Xacto knife or scalpel?

Hi, Tom. The knife I am using is a plastic one made by Swan and Morton. It will take scalpel blades etc and is very comfortable to use. I also use ordinary scalpels for general cutting, especially where the knob on the one I am using would get in the way. I use 10a , 11 and 11e scalpel blades mostly. I find xacto knives a bit clumsy, but at the end of the day use what you feel comfortable with. Hope this helps.
