That is a beast of a sewing machine, Awesome laser stamp idea thats going in my mental tool box. PS great to meet you at Maker Central uk. All the very best Jimmy. cheers J
I’d love one of these with my daughters art on it. I have one now and it cut it off of the original that I bought from her school. I just take it off and re glue it onto the next wallet. To have it permanently on there for a carry and put the original away….that’s a great idea✊🏻
Suggestions: -pre cut a groove where you threads go and it will help recess them for a cleaner look. - try hand tooling some designs! Super fun and totally unique. That sewing machine looks like a beast!
I love your craftsmanship and creativity ! After watching you for many years now I’m convinced you could probably make anything ! Thanks for sharing your time and skills !
I took up sewing Cordura as a retirement hobby, and fight with myself daily about getting into leather sewing. It’s such a slippery slope! Then seeing the fly press for embossing just makes me all the more want to take the leap. DigBags
Joe, take the leap. Extremely satisfying. I got my prep and practice done prior to retirement, so once I retired this past September, I was set up. After 34 years of being a police officer and detective, I found that I don’t miss it one iota because I was prepped for other stuff. Do it!
I took up making historical men's suits 1890 - 1930 and the GREAT thing is, you do not have to spend a lot of money on machinery. I used to do cabinet making a long time back, that is a bottomless pit of expense.
Great Jimmy. I'll have to continue with my needles and hand tools. High dollar machines just aren't cost effective for my hobby of leather working. I won't let it become a business.
Lovely clean and simple lines that have an elegance that complex ones only aspire to. Fab how the sewing machine has such an easy to operate reverse lever and the ability to sew though 3/4 inch is awesome. Thanks for sharing!
I’m gonna need more clamps! Once again Jimmy you’ve inspired me. I’ll make my projects in sets, instead of one at a time. I’ve been hand-stitching, I’ll be considering an intro level machine. Cheers !
When my father passed, my twin siter and her partner sorted through the tools he left behind, planning to donate some of the clamps he had, I snagged them before they had a chance to go uttering the infamous quote "There's no such thing as having too many clamps!"
Wow they look great. I have just recently started making my own handmade bags and boy would an industrial sewing machine save me from a lot of frustrating tears, teehee. I love the entire bag making process from designing to making but I definitely see the benefits of an industrial machine.....maybe some day I'll have one....but I need my tiny 656 sq ft home to somehow grow in size first though, lol. Lee :)
If you want a better impression, you could wet the leather a bit, that's what we do when we carved / tooled leather, plus it will fold better too instead of hammering down and will prevent cracks on the crease .
Willy Wonka! Classic! If you end up producing these, having the button faces embossed with DIRESTA similar to the Levi’s ones. It would be a subtle way to brand them.
That sewing machine looks like it could stitch quarter inch wood panels together..... Holy Crap. 😮 Edit: That looked like a little red Harbor Freight anvil...
They look incredible nicely done. Congrats on 2 million btw not sure if I said it yet but I remember when you had like 3000 and I thought that was so much. 🎉❤👊💪🙏
That Adler copy machine could sew 4 of those wallets together. It can handle up to 1" of material, plywood included. They used to use them to sew door cards together in cars. HEY JIMMY: those shims on the top and bottom of the forward/reverse can be adjusted so it sews in the same holes when back stitching. Looks like yours need a small adjustment.
Very cool! Looks like you milled those stamps, I've had good luck using a resin-based/SLA printer to create them as well. Great work! Couldn't tell if you did, but also I'll wet the leather before applying the stamp, and for smaller ones I'll just use a mallet since I don't have a fancy fly-press 😁
At 7:08 you can see a laser being used to make the stamps, but I do not immediately recognize the material used. This is a much faster process than using a 3D printer. IMO, 3D printing (aka. additive manufacturing) is too slow of a process to be commercially viable. Even when you own racks of printers, the process isn't efficient enough to justify the investment in machines, supplies, power, and time required for care and maintenance. If you have enough volume that racks of 3D printers would be required, then it makes more sense to invest in injection molding or work with a specialty manufacturer to mass produce the items.
Can you heart react Sir Jimmy? 😅 Im watching your vids since Im a 1st year med student, now Im a doctor. From philippines 🙌🏼 watching your vids are so relaxing for me.
How much time do you think the laser and the sewing machine saved you? >50%, you think? Also, congrats on 2,000,000 subs. Amazing! Thanks for the video
First of all, where does Jimmy mention this is a "DIY" project? Secondly, the sewing can easily be done with two needles and thread using a simple saddle stitch. Probably about 5 minutes per wallet. And you don't need a huge press to stamp the designs. If you wet the leather, you can easily do it just by sitting on it for a couple minutes. Also, there are many ways to create stamps without a laser cutter. Most snap sets come with everything needed to set snaps by hand. Assuming you buy a stamp (along with the snaps and leather and thread and needles, etc.), this is a beginner project. It is a very good way to start learning leathercraft.
I paid for my machine in 10 messenger bags. I have a Techsew 5100 very similar in size/type/cost to Jimmys. I dont have a youtube channel. It is just me, a broke wage slave with a side hustle. DIY as FUKK....

Also, a rivet at the top of your stitch will keep the threads from pulling away over time. The glue helps, but can breakdown over time
The embossing was even more impressive close up, there was a lot of fine details in there.
Awesome! Love that there's no music!
Jimmy, your wallets are a product that would move...and move fast like the ice picks. We need them. New product. Take our 💲

Well done Jimmy.
Never mind the sewing machine, that fly press is a beast!
Very cool and satisfying to watch the process. Willy Wonka is the winner for me!
Love the harness machine, sure beats hand sewing.

Wild equipment! Nice Jimmy.
That Willy Wonka sure looks like Gene Wilder.
Great job on the pouches 👝, Jimmy
Wetting or dampening the crease points with a little water on a sponge would persuade the leather to crease easier lay flatter and not try to unravel.

well that was a treat. thanks
Awesome job.
These look good, and a Willy Wonka nice touch.
Excellent craftsmanship. Surprised you didn’t go full custom and metal cast the snaps as well.

That is one heck of a massive sewing machine, mine struggles to sew through two layers of faux leather!
Marked leather with a laser once......that smell....phew!
She's got some beans, bit modern for you though mate, doubt it could even rip a finger off.
nice machine. that'll make you money
I want a golden ticket wallet . I want one now . Love the Original Willy Wonka !!!!!
Love all the work you do !!!!!
Maybe you can create a diresta leather line of products gear towards makers with your own iconic design like LV Prada YSL etc etc.
Awesome Jimmy. What’s your favorite medium? Metal, Wood, Leather, Blacksmith, Stone?!?
It feels weird getting long form content from Jimmy lol.
Holy cow, that's a lot of money for a sewing machine. I know it takes a lot to sew leather but still.
It would be cool to do some with a diresta stencil. Instead of paint you could use a leather dye in an atomizer
Can you heart react Sir Jimmy? 😅 Im watching your vids since Im a 1st year med student, now Im a doctor. From philippines 🙌🏼 watching your vids are so relaxing for me.
Process over result, ok ! Just not really sure about the windows 95 cliparts you stamp on the wallets... After all Weaver should be happy x)

How easy was it getting the bank cards out of the wallet? Looks like a tight fit.

What are the stamps made of? Corian?
yep or acrylic works too
@@jimmydiresta Thanks Jimmy :)
