Don't recommend cleaning with water. Sounds good in theory, but in practice, the water turns the fine timings into a paste that dries hard, and then you can never get rid of it. Just pop the head off and tap it on a hard surface to shake the trimmings out. Also, a point of critique was missed: the new design won't allow you to shave with the cord plugged in like a regular electric shaver. You have to wait for the battery to recharge before you can use it, once the battery runs low. And BTW, the charging cable is very flimsy, it will never stand up to travel. Speaking of travel, the trimmer attachment does not fit in the travel case, and it's too fragile to pack without a case. So looks like Braun decided for you, that you don't need the trimmer when you are on the road. Otherwise, one good point, which is the main point: It does give a close shave, that is noticeably better than previous models. The build quality is such, however, that it probably won't last long. Very cheaply made.
Easy clean is worthless, as is the trimmer attachment. But owning two high-end Braun shavers for the last 16 years, both lasting about 8 years each, this 5 series feels better in the hand and actually gives a closer smoother shave. If a trimmer attachment is not of importance to you, it gives you a great shave for a low price. By the way, I get a 3 to 4 minute shave everyday for more than a month on its battery after just a 1 hour charge.
I agree on the easy clean. Yes it does give you a pretty nice shave for the price that's for sure! The attachments are ok .they get my by but again not the best. Thanks for watching and for your comments friend!
I bought 1 and I like it. But If I shave daily would I get irritation from it? My dad says I would even though he never used one 🤦♂️ and its comfortable to me
Does it shave as smooth as normal razor blade? I am using rowenta forever sharp right now and after every use i need to finish shaving with razor blade.
Nothing beats a real razor BUT...it will get you pretty close if you take your time and also clean regularly. You also don't get cut..lol. I am still using mine today.
When I clean it with water after every shave do I need to let the foil part of the shaver and the shaver itself air dry until dry or can I put the pieces back together and leave it to dry intact?
You can do both. What I do is clean it all out and then put it back on the charger with the foil. Just sitting on top of the shaver. Not installed on the shaver. Just sitting on top of the shaver to let it dry out. It is a wet dry shaver but I feel it works better if I let it dry.
@Hobart's Reviews if I wet the shaver after every 4 to 5 shaves does that make a difference to the shave or should I just rinse with water after every use?
No, it does NOT clean out the hair, after the first few times of rinsing it. The hair will stay in their and turn to paste, and clog the head up….poor design really…..
Not sure. I got 5 guards with mine but can understand if you want longer length. It's still pretty new so maybe they are working on it. If I hear anything I will let you know.
I looked for you and couldn't find them. It is a new shaver for 2020 so maybe they will come later. For now you just have to get them with the shaver. I'll keep my eye out for you!
Not sure. At the time I posted this you couldn't. You had to get the model that had them included. I would guess at some poi.t they would have them for same separately.
I have used this razor for the last 5 months, and tried to use the water rinse, and it does NOT work very well. The first couple of times, it did rinse ok, but after a few times, it did NOT rinse out the hair, so I tried to open it up and clean it…… and even though I am an electronics technician, it was NOT easy to open it and clean it….without breaking two of the tiny little tabs that hold it together….WTH?
Yep! I should have put a link in the description for that. It's mostly a pre-shave solution/ gel. It gets your skin ready for the electric shaver. Similar to like "lectric shave"
@@HobartsReviews I have used shaving cream for wet shaving with my electric in the past but didn't know they had a specific one for it. Yes please add a link 👍
My new model S5 shaves for 3 months and the head is doll. I have been using Braun for many years and they used to be great... NO MORE... After 3 months of shaving EVERY OTHER DAY I am forced to purchase a new head at $35 each because it now tatks 10 minutes going over and over and NEVER gets a good clean shave as it did when new. Do the math, it is now costing my $35 x 4 per year equals $140 per year plus buying the razor initially. Too bad, they WERE quality but NOT ANYMORE. Time to look elsewhere.
Thanks for your comment. I have been using the same head for over a year. I agree they don't cut as well after a few months but they still cut smooth. You just have to take some more time but no need to buy a new head 4x a year. But each person is different.
Almost three months later and this is still the best (and one of the only) reviews of this new series 5 model. Thanks!
Awe thanks Ian! I appreciate it very much!

The "fine timings"?
Just bought this. I’m excited to try it. Thanks for the review!
No problem! Thanks for watching.

a very efficient and clear review. nice!
Thanks James!
Its amazing shave. Buy it yesterday
Awesome!

Nope. I use mine every day and I get no irritation at all.
@@HobartsReviews Thanks and nice video 🤝

@@mroqqq7871 best question on here. I’m stuck on what works. Regular razor
Is it worth it? I’m on the fence between the Series 5 and Series 3
@Hobarts Reviews do these electric foil shavers shave as close as a cartridge razor

@@HobartsReviews sure I don’t ever cut the shave I get from a cartridge razor is superb,
Very nice review. Was wondering how it does for 2-3 days growth?
Alan, not bad actually. I don't let myself get to 2 to 3 days but I do get to about 2 days with no problems.
I noticed that braun says their foil and blades last
18 months. Is that any where close to true?
When I clean it with water after every shave do I need to let the foil part of the shaver and the shaver itself air dry until dry or can I put the pieces back together and leave it to dry intact?

Great review!
Thanks World Traveler!
Thank you for this video. Will not be buying this shaver due to the missing pop up trimmer.
I know some shavers won't cut in the bigger hair(a beard for example), will only cut the short hair on your face. Is this the same?
Yeah, it comes with a trimmer attachment. I use the closest one and then finish with the razor.
Thanks for the video
Does the cleaning refill same as series 3 refill
Hello Rayn, I'm sorry I don't understand the question. Can you clarify?
@@HobartsReviews the blue refill liquid is it same between the series 3 and 5?
must be nice to be able to shave like that and not get any bumps
Yeah I guess
Thats the main reason why I switched to a electric shaver. Just because its easier to use and does the same job.
Great review
How do you oil it?
Not sure. I've never had to oil mine.
im pretty sure when the new 10 series comes they will have QI charging as the new Philips got, mark my words!
I see that the charger pins are metal and not sealed, is it really waterproof? thanks
Alan, I've gotten it wet several times with now issues so it seems that way.
@@HobartsReviews thank you for your awesome review and promptly reply !
Oh my old 5090cc looks to good for this ....
Hey, I'm not sure I understand what you mean? You like the new 2020 design better? Or you like your 5090cc better then the new models?
@@HobartsReviews 5090 :) still using :)
Should show how this trimmer does with 2 day growth. You just shaved very small stubble anything can do that.
Best video tx
Thanks!
Good stuff!
Rylan thank you so much 🙏😉
I wanted to see you ‘easy clean’ it 😕
Does the shaving head come clean when you run water through the bottom holes? Do you still have to take the head off to clean it after shaving?
It does ok but I still take the head of to get it really clean.
No, it does NOT clean out the hair, after the first few times of rinsing it. The hair will stay in their and turn to paste, and clog the head up….poor design really…..
Any word on getting longer guards for this model? Just picked one up and it's awesome but would like some longer guards. Can't find anything online!

Is it better than one blade anyone guide me please
What do you mean? 1 blade?
Anywhere I can find precision trimmer guards online?

Yes it is. But take it slow...
mine works good i have tuff chin hair man..
Yeah I'm still using mine since I made this video in 2020..haha

The stores in my country sell this 40% more expensive...
