12:58 I work with that material. You need a finished gun. Because Framing nails are too thick,
Use different nails, try a better quality nail. I had this same issue with bulk nails from box stores.
Definitely paint before brick brother 🤙🏼
Hardi is brittle and hard as a rock. Those cordless guns are cool but Im still dragging an air hose behind my guns. After 38 yrs I still cuss when there hanging up on stuff but ya cant beat the consistancy of that air compressor. Youre doing a fine job Sir. Great videos! Be safe.
I just about went back and bought a air gun... we're making due for the meantime! Hardie is a PAIN to get up 😂
48” is on point. Looks good that way man. Absolutely paint before brick. Saves you time and money protecting the brick.
Just watched my neighbor try and paint his siding and now he's got overspray ALL OVER his brick... I definitely got the answer to my question 😂
Change those top two panels on the back and eliminate the extra seam. It's only 100 bucks after you've spent thousands... don't skimp now...
Or just run the trim piece for this all the way across and nobody will ever know it’s not supposed to be like that
@@BackRoadBuilt yes I agree. An additional belly band on the higher seam!
I thought it looked cool
@@dadlife8289I do agree, think it adds some personality
I always use a finish nailer pneumatic finish Nailer is the best that I’ve used for over a decade on Hardie trim that includes the thicker 5/4 trim. Also use big stretch in between for your caulking joints for expansion and contraction.
When I built my first garage I used all Hardi fiber cement products. It was brittle and fragile to work with and of course the dust was terrible. When we built our second house we used LP. Miraculously durable with exceptional water resistance and easier to cut with conventional blades.
Honestly its been great seeing the journey of the shop and the channel growing.
Paint before brick.
It’s more work but I screw in my hardie trim after drilling a pilot hole with a countersink bit.
The guys that did the Hardi on my house usess 16 gauge finish nails on the trim and two years later I had to go around and screw it all in as it was falling off. What screws do you use? Are there any that don’t need pre drilling
@@kevinwakuse ring shank nails not finish nails
Painting before Bricks 😊😊😊😊
Idk a single thing about building anything but I have been following this series from the beginning because im so intrigued LOL
Stud pack goes into more detail, but I’m learning a lot here too
That makes two of us 😂. I just wanted a place I could work on cars... and here we are.
I don't know why I just thought of this but it's feels like this project and Jordan's garage/house project would have been perfect for a Stud Pack video cross collab moment
because they both got Hawaiians swingin' around like fridgin' acrobats, I had the same thought
Funny how you tube seems to know what we like.
No Brainer . Paint first. Less drama as if you haven’t had enough already! But you have done an excellent and amazing job on your Building. Truly blood, sweat and tears. 😎🤩
Paint coming up next! thanks 🤙🏽
its so great watching your vids especially because i get all the weather you get and can relate to all of the storms lol, i live in Dallas so it is pretty darn close, keep it up man!
Paint now and do any final touch ups after the brick, looks great can’t wait to finally see the end result
I like the 48" over the previous options. Looks great!
Props to you man! I hope I just missed it but I want to make sure you did put Z-flash above those windows to help water proof just like you did where the brick meets the soffit.
Looks good. I'd paint before brick. Less masking.
Predrill the trim. I did my entire house over the last year. I have a siding aire gun and it works great until you hit the thicker trim over the smooth board. Looking good !!
So happy you're seeing this project through! You're a real one! Like akua!
🤙🏽🤙🏽
Looks great. You can use the top piece on the back for some nice artwork/logo
Looking good! Paint now and touch up after.
👋🏾 one of the 6 ladies watching here lol. Paint first! I’m really enjoying this build series and am always impressed by the next task, keep up the good work! Give Maui a pet for me 😁
Thanks for watching! 🤙🏽
48" on center looks really good. Paint now. Keep up the great work.
Turn it up a few notches, the hardie board has density spots that cause it to stop instantly and bend.
I had the same issue with my nail gun - a DeWalt cordless. Those Hardie battens are super hard but, I found that if I let the nail gun really spin up, it worked a lot better.
We are putting up the same thing. We are using our framing gun, air powered with 16 galvanized nails and having same issue. Cement fiber boards are denser than wood. Some of our nails are only going in one inch then we have to pound them all in the rest of the way
for painting the walls id say it doesnt really matter if you do it before or after the bricks, i would mask the windows anyway so then its pretty easy to mask the brick aswell with some tape and plastic over it.
I had that nail sticking problem. Spray lubricant on your nails in the nail gun. To lubricate the nailgun and the slide.
I'll try that next! Thanks!!
paint now, and thank you for continuing to be the reason I keep pushing on my own garage build plans for this spring. Not as big as your but still decent size.
I think you should put another piece of that horizontal trim at the top where you cut those boards and can see the cut on both boards. Or replace both boards now.
Building my pool house and RR is my other go to channel for awesome content!!!
Shop looks great 👍🏼
It’s looking amazing! Definitely 48 was the right choice. Also, paint the hardy first. That way it doesn’t weather. Get it sealed from behind the brick. And never have to do it again. Keeps paint off the brick. Easier to clean off mortar. Always pre drill trim. Set, stab, hammer.
Thanks!
Paint before the brick gets put up.Because it's gonna be a lot harder when the brick is up and you gotta tape everything off
Beautiful shop. You should be very proud of yourself. Great job. Love the videos entertaining and learning a few things along the way.
If you haven’t already, try to oil the mechanism on the nailer oiling it helps so much I used to have the same issues with paslodes and a little wd40 usually helped.
Check with your instruction manual first. Some guns definitely do not use oil, it will require a complete service if you do.
48 oc would have been my selection if it was an option on the last video. It looks great and you should paint before the bricks are installed.
I’ve been saying this for years…. But you really need to sell merch. I think you’d sell a lot of it. Great design and colors. Love the videos!
I've been following you for around 3 years now (before to big 100k). It's amazing to see what you have done. Keep up the good work
Thanks for watching all this time! Aloha.
It's been awesome watching you and tackle such a huge project!!!!
Did you consider using power grab glue for your battens? Just a couple nails to hold n place while the glue set up. Not saying it would be the way to do it, just wondering the downside to it.
In my opinion I like the Milwaukee nail gun it sounds like a Star Wars blaster if you think about it
I'm never going to be able to un-hear that noise ever 😂
Also try to pre-assemble your corners with the finished nail gun to make sure they have a plum and even
Love this channel next after the shop you should make a pool with decking for a barbecue area or a go cart track. Keep it up man.
The Shop is looking good, I would say paint first then do the brick so you don't have the mask it up as you paint the top.
Came here for Chevy Trail boss mods and have been watching a garage being built… but I’m here for it! Definitely paint first IMO…Great work!
Same, i upgraded to a raptor 6 months ago but I'm still here watching all the videos 😂
We'll be back with some Trail Boss content soon. I've got something big cooking for that truck 😎
Hitting yhat thing OUT OF THE PARK!!! Looking waay mo bettah!
Mo Bettah Built ✅
It's subtle, but it looks like sometimes you're lifting the nailer away just before firing, instead of kinda giving it a little push TOWARDS the material as you fire. I think bc the Hardie is so solid, and cordless nailers aren't quite as strong as pneumatic, that little bit makes a difference
Being one of the 6 female subscribers, I was going to suggest the 48" batons but didn't want to get called out! Looking good man, you should be proud of yourself!
I didn't expect the 48" spacing to look SO GOOD... looks like I'll be getting some $$ back when I return the unused hardie 😅... win. win.
THANK YOU. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
Looks really good 👍 BUT yeah yeah there’s always that one guy 😢
It reminds me of the late 80s early 90s homes.
But keep up the awesome series I’m enjoying all the things you have accomplished since you kicked off this whole channel ❤🎉
I had the exact same issue with nails of a certain type with the exact nail-gun you're using while build a 14x16 Gambrel shed. When I was using the 2-3/8 Bright Coated Grip-Rite 30 degree nails, I was getting that exact issue about the same frequency as you. When I was using the "Galvanized" version of the same nails. 2-3/8, both .113 thickness, it would only happen maybe 1 in 20 nails. I basically swore off using the bright coated ones for that reason. So I would definitely try a different nail, even if it's the same size.
Aloha dude loving the build. Looking forward to the eventual interior finishing as well.
Gable break instead of belly band sir
I love that you’re doing it all yourself and proving that even me as an average guy… definitely can’t do it 😂
I would Paint before the brick, It'll save time and money on prep. then if you have anything to touchup it'll be quick and easy after the brick!
Looks amazing! I wish I had your determination and drive to get any projects done. You're an inspiration. Keep up the great craftsmanship 👍
Definitely paint before brick.
Please do 24" o.c. all the way around. It will look so much better.
Also, that belly band should have either been above the L or Z flashing, or the flashing should have stuck out far enough to tuck it under.
Obviously Painting your siding will obviously be easier before the brick goes on. The shop is really coming together, and looking great. Since you mentioned moving, have you considered how having your shop in the back is going to affect your home value when you sell?
It's not going to make me rich my any means 😅 but we are aware it'll drive the resale price up a good amount. I'll be building it as if we're never leaving but if/when the time comes I'll build a bigger and better version 2.0 🤙🏽
Go Sherwin Williams. There’s plenty stuff to use that will protect and look good
Paint BEFORE brick, always.. Save yourself the prep work.
I can't wait to see the brick go up💯. Gotta do a mean burnout once you're done completely. Keep up the great work.
I think the 48 looks really good. I agree that they 24 may look too busy after seeing the 48
When you do your merch don't forget about us big tall guys. I'd wear that hoodie all day long if I had one in a 3XT or 4XT
Any reason on why you chose to do the panels before you put in the bricks? Isn't the flashing supposed to go over the bricks and fold down on the outside of them and then the panels should reat about a "1/16:th or so above the flashing.
Is the weater risk for bellow freezing to high to use mortar to place the bricks currently?
You low-key mocked Ryobi, and I get it, but that is what I have for a nailer for the past few years, zero issues. I mean they are "siblings" still....
(I would't be surprised if they are made in the same factory...)
Paint before brick!!!
You could fix those two panels on top by adding a belly board on the seams then add baton at 45 degrees on either side side of the middle starting at the bottom in the middle if you see what I mean.
Paint before the brick and the touch up if needed after the brick!
As a builder, I enjoy the process of the shop build but, HURRY UP! 🤣 we want to see the INSIDE getting pimped out now. Setting up a new shop is one of my favorite parts of a build.
I used gauge 14 Brad nails for Hardy trim when I did my house
Paint first, but still mind the over-spray. If there's too much, your facia adhesion to the sheathing might become an issue.
Oh yes, definitely paint before brick. It's just like building a house, always paint before flooring and fixtures installed...
Paint now 🎨
Do yourself a favor and build a nice work table. Nothing worse than working all day on the ground. Definitely saves some wear and tear on the back and knees. Shops lookin great!
Looks Awesome MY Brother, that's How you do it .👍✌️
Paint before brick and I hope you have larger sizes for your merch!
I think one of the other guys in your comments “nailed” the issue with your nailer. You might be going too fast and the nailer and it can’t keep up with enough power after two or three through the hard surface.
Google thinks the same with some other options:
A battery-powered pneumatic nailer jamming every few nails while working with Hardie siding is likely due to a combination of factors including improper nail selection, insufficient power from the battery, poor nail placement on the hard siding material, dirt buildup in the nailer mechanism, or a faulty driving mechanism; always ensure you're using the correct type and length of nails specifically designed for Hardie siding and check your battery charge level before starting work.
And 100% paint before you do that brick brotha!
Cheers from New Jersey!
We’re going to be building a shop addition soon and your videos make us want it even sooner! Awesome job, been following since the start 💪
paint now definitely and then do a touch up coat after brick
Leave it at 48” it looks great as it is
PAINT FIRST !!!!!
You're welcome 😁
What you call a belly band, I just call a freeze board. I'm not sure if thats what a Hardie expert would call it though lol.
I would probably paint before the brick but honestly, just do what ever is easier to get done first.
I just don't think the nails are tough enough or maybe need to turn up the gun a bit more.
That damm Nail gun Bro.... but I'm glad you found the niched Props on the build it looks awesome.
Get the DeWalt nailer….shoots smooth like butter!
Paint before brick , when you put the brick up … it’s easier to wipe the mortar off paint than paint off mortar or brick
They are bending because hardie is much more dense than wood. Air gun will get you more consistent results. The battery guns are so convenient but not quite as powerful.
Paint now before the brick.
As much as the sliding move with the weather surprise you don't chalk the seams first to seal it looking good
Yes you have lady viewers! I have enjoyed the build. You remind me of my dad, getting it done even with no experience.
Awesome. You’ve still got the those gloves.
Definitely paint before the stonework.
Definitely paint now without bricks to catch the splatter. It'll be a lot easier without bricks in place.
You did half the work on your pilot holes you are supposed to also pre drill the other board and don't forget to use candle wax on the screw when drilling them together.
It could be a 2 things with the nailer one the nails you are using thats a framing nailer and its only supposed to bd used with clipped head nails not the full rounded ones
The second option is that the cylinder inside the gun leaked and you just need to refill it ( there is a couple tutorials on youtube for it ) thats the only thing i can think of
Paint now. Easier with less mess. don't forget to caulk the seams first though.
The reason the bottom trim on the window is shorter than the top is because if it was as long as the top when water runs down the sides it would go back toward the window when it hit the seam, this way it just goes down and drips with no seam to flow into.
I would paint now
Seems like you are lifting the frame nailer early. It took me a while to get that figured out.
