how do you get the toothpick to align with the front? its always just the side smashing into my piece of cardboard

first, there is no way to make the toothpick go straight, it MUST rotate, but if it always hits with the flat part and not the point try moving phisically foreward or backwards, this way the toothpick rotates more or less and hits with the pointy part, other than this just flick it as hard as you can, that's important.
