- Hey everyone and welcome back to the channel. Happy New Years to you all and I wish all the great things you want will come true for you. Today I have the HW-Q60R sound bar system by Samsung and Harman Kardon. A wonderful system to have but does have its draw backs, price being the main one. PLEASE LIKE, COMMENT, SUBSCRIBE AND SHARE THE VIDEO, YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN SOMEONE WANTS MORE INFO ON THE SYSTEM.
Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy this in-depth review.
Reviewing sound quality, without hard data produced from professional test equipment, makes all information a relative opinion. Relative, that is, to other sound systems listened too. For example, I recently upgraded to this bar from an LG SK3D (2.1). This sound bar sounds amazing compared to the LG. Now if I bought the Q60R after having been used to a much better system, than yes, it would be lackluster. Keep that in mind when you hear his criticisms of the bar and consider the sound quality of the system from which you are upgrading. Taste is subjective and perceived quality is relative. To his defense, he does say it's his opinion.
Bought it a week before Black Friday for $399. It’s my first ever soundbar & I paired it with a 65” RU7100. Considering we’re in a 2 bedroom apartment, it’s been more than enough sound. I rarely raise the volume above 20, unless we’re watching a movie. But I’m definitely looking forward to getting a true 5.1 system when we move out! Very informative video & I appreciate the transparency. You gained a subscriber!
Thank you very much for the kind words and subscribing, really lets me know that I'm doing a better job at videos than before.
J_Dubbz83 you can buy swa 9000s rear speakers and create 7.1 with this
Fahad Radi I considered getting the 8500s/9000s. However, I read a lot of mixed reviews online. I feel like a true 5.1 system would sound a lot better overall. But I guess $200 for the rear speakers isn’t too bad. Now I’m eager to order them!
J_Dubbz83 reviews are always going to be mixed up, good or bad or in between. However most people complained about the rear speakers being to low of volume, and for that you need to know that in the soundbar remote there are hidden features such as adjusting the rear speakers volume and by doing so the sound should be in my opinion really good. And as far as I know the swa 8500 are for 130€ in Europe. So it’s much cheaper that you migh thought. I also agree with you I won’t be good as a Dolby digital plus. Hopefully they will fix that with a firmware update.
the rear speakers are 99 at best buy right now
Appreciate your honest straight forward review. Very informative and well presented.
totally disagree, the quality is what you pay for.I have had other brands with better specs, but this blows them away in the $350 range, which is what i paid.I am a recording engineer and I listen to the sound quality. There is more then enough RMS for this price range.
I agree with you. It sounds pretty good
Jon, have you listened to the Q70R? If so, what is your opinion of it?
jon amodeo I am buying a new Samsung television and need a good sound bar. I was getting ready to purchase this until this guy and his video. What is your recommendation? Thank you for your help
Agreed. I have this sound bar. I never do Amazon reviews for products. I did my first one for this item. This sound bar is amazing. An easy buy. Absolutely incredible. Huge fan.
Kevin Porreco buy it if u have not.
Im not gonna lie that first song went crazy 🔥🔥
They should of at least paired this system with an 8 inch woofer. They keep making 6.5 inch woofers right from their bottom end to high end. At least start doing 8 inch with the 650 series. Leave the 6.5 inch for the 450 and 550. I think If they changed their subwoofer sizes and made them better they would sell way more!
I use the game mode primarily. This impressed me; being a regular consumer and not a pro audiophile. Movies are great but yes, it does leave “a lot to be desired”
I've had this sound bar since October 2019 and just came across your video. I 100% agree with your review. My disappointment is the bass is lacking due to being underpowered and the subwoofer is just not cutting it. I also agree that the highs sound good but it just doesn't marry well with the bass to provide the great sound I was expecting with the Harmon Kadon speakers. Lucky, I picked up this system for $230, so it's good for that price.
Spacey Tropics , Your beats definitely have potential . Your sounds can take people on an adventure for certain . 👍🏽
The RMS power is not half of the power like 360W/2 = 180 W but 360W/sqrt(2) =254 W which is a decent power.
I also bought it on Black Friday, price was $280.00 at Best buy. I had $100 reward from Best buy. I used it towards it after taxes it only cost me $200.
I got this bar and the woofer
This Q60R Harmon kardon hits hard!!!!!😊🔊🔊
Pretty spot on review bro. I just picked this up for that $280 price point as well. Good job
Thank you for the kind words and thank you very much for watching !!
I kinda like the sound and the bass on the woofer
Can you make a video tearing this soundbar apart, im trying to clean but i can take apart the grill or anything even after taking the screw off.
hi, first i use google translate. Sorry. But I wanted this soundbar for a while, and saw it for just 299 euros. I ordered it right away, and was convinced it was a good deal. But after this video I doubt it. What do you mean by the placement of the soundbar? The Subwoofer next to a wall? And if you could choose: JBL 5.1 Surround 329 euros (not the 2 extra speakers), Or Samsung HW-Q60R 299 euros? You made a very comprehensive and clear video, I couldn't find this anywhere else. For information, my old soundbar was an HW-J335 from Samsung.
So let's break sound down a little. When a person speaks the sound from your voice bounces off multiple surfaces in order to travel out and be heard by someone else. For example in a sound proof room you'll hear yourself very well because there is nothing for the sound to bounce off of but you probably won't hear another person so well because the sound is dampened and won't travel far. Now in a regular room there is some type of echo because there's all kinds of surfaces for the sound to bounce off of and that's why you hear others so well. Now in a open area like outside you'd have to speak up a little louder since the sound needs to travel further to reach someone. So by Placement i mean you need to place the sound bar where the sound can bounce off of to your liking otherwise the sound that it produces will be a little lacking like what i'm getting now. By subwoofer next to my wall i mean I've placed the port of the Sub facing the wall for those low frequencies to bounce off the wall and go through the entire room. So when you buy speakers you want the best sound obviously especially for the right price, but understand where you need to place it as well since placement is also key in good sound reproduction. Hope that helps you understand what i mean a little more and thank you for watching!
Hi Spacey , which should i go for samsung Hw-Q60r or jbl bar 2.1 with deep bass ?
Thanks
Exactly what I wanted to know. Both are listed used in my area for 100 bucks each. Can’t choose one
Kept it Real. Still debating. The lack of bass kills it for me. And recommendations?
I've honestly been hearing great things about the Bass response on the JBL Bar 5.1 system if your still looking for a sound bar setup, so definitely take a look in that direction to start. Otherwise if you're looking for a great experience most definitely save a little more and get a true 5.1 setup (5 speakers, 1 Sub), it definitely makes a difference .
The product spec says it has 8 speakers in the bar. How did you make a count of 5
How can you say, "Look elsewhere." but not give an example of better sound bar systems for the same price?
Should I go with LG SL6Y or JBLBAR31BLKAM or Polk Magnifi MAX system.
I think it sucks for music. It sounds awesome for movies and tv shows with 5.1 surround sound.
the sub was such a let down.
Br4v0 2 frrr
Thanks for the video. Samsung/ Harman Kardon HW-Q60R or JBL Bar 3.1 >>>>> Which of these two would you recommend for a Samsung TV QE65Q67R smart tv ?? (used mostly for movies and music)
You said location, location, location - my living room is around 430 sqft and 13 ft height. In addition, the ceiling is not perpendicular to the floor, it is 30 degrees oblique to the floor. Would this virtual dolby surround system work with such sealing at all? Or should I just give up with the samsung hw-Q60R and buy a solid JBL Bar 3.1.
Thanks for you comments and greetings from Poland :)
So lets start with the room size, I'm going to assume its a rectangular floor plan so estimating around 18-19ft multiplied by 23-24ft roughly to get the 430SqFT. Then factor in the sloped ceiling and it being 13ft high, with a room like that i'd honestly say the samsung might have the slight advantage over the JBL just because of the 2 extra speakers in the soundbar. Now if you're not a fan of virtual surround sound and want a more directional sound meaning the sound coming straight at you then the JBL would be great. Plus i heard that the JBL systems give a better Bass response if that is something you're looking for and it has a slight bit more power than the Samsung. Also Price is a factor as the Samsung without sale in the US is 499 where the JBL 3.1 is 299 in the US so big price gap there. Given the fact that JBL is also a part of Harman Kardon which is what the Samsung is packing in terms of speaker tech then you're kind of almost better off with the Samsung especially for movies. for music I'd take the JBL. All in all it really comes down to your sound preference. If you can, try them in-store if available for display and see what you think. Remember go with an open mind as stores will set up speakers the way it best sounds in the space provided, it's not always going to be the same once you bring it home. Right now i can tell you for sure, Samsung Tv will work better with a Samsung Soundbar thats just the way samsung intended for it to be. Hopefully this helps out a bit and thank you for watching.
@@spaceytropics Thank you for your comment. It helped :)
I also have a vaulted ceiling and the slant will be higher on one side of the sound bar than the other. I was not sure that will work well with the acoustic beaming thing. Though you can get a wireless speaker kit to add 2 more speakers for rear/side surround, but am not even certain it's real 3d surround.
I just stayed clear of purchasing it. It is really overpriced.
Spacey Tropics have you heard jbl 3.1. The bar is not great. It’s under average and the bar itself is underpowered compared to the sub..
How would u compare THX, Atmos, ProLogic etc with soundbar which cost at 300 bucks? If u want to get a good quality sound, get urself bose, inifinity etc..
what about samsung Q60T or T670 or Yamaha 209?
I have problem with my q60r, when I'm turning up the volume the subwoofer keeps the same volume, but when I'm turning down the volume the subwoofer turning up its volume equal to normal. I don't know how to explain, every time I'm going for example to 60 and I must go back to 58 to wake up subwoofer volume, it not following the volume of soundbar
is this similar to the Q6CR?
I can get this soundbar for $70 right now. Should i do it?
This one without Atmos feature or Atmos Soundbar like Sony HT-G700?
Which one better then why?
Q6cr its the same q60r?
Hi, good review :). The more I watch reviews the more confused I am. Some models in which I am interested in cannot be bought in stores near by-me, so I cannot check them in person. I am torned between following models and hopefully you can help me out with decision (i have small living room: 16m2): Samsung q60r, LG SL8Y, JBL deep bass 2.1 and Yamaha 209.
Thanks!
Does it turn off by itself when you turn off the tv?
Samsung hwq60r or Sony htx8500 which is better for 20feet X 20feet room???
Hello bro. I am getting samsung 60t and JBL 2.1 deep base both for $300. Please help me choose btw 2. I watch RUclips and lots of movies.
What soundbar or system would you recommend?? I'm a gamer and I also watch a lot of movies so i'd like to have an immense sound system.
Honestly with the criteria you mentioned especially being a gamer, I'd say you don't need a sound bar in general unless you're tight on space. What you need is a full fledged 5.1 system with the 5 speaker 1 sub setup. The reason for that is it's sole purpose for being built, Entertainment. You want to feel the sound, hear things you've never heard before and really enjoy what you bought and you can only reach a certain point in that level with a sound bar setup if it is a virtual setup like this one. A real 5.1 system would cover all the bases you need. Hope this helped you out a bit.
@@angelicsiren13 Sonos if you plan to build it out.
Spacey Tropics what if you don’t got room for a 5.1 system and don’t wanna deal with all the wires?
@@oilerguy5494 Then you should go for a soundbar. Samsung q70, q80, JBL 5.1 or Sony htf9. More budget friendly is the q60 and Sony xf9000 and samsung hw-r650. Yamaha 107 is also decent. But if you only use it for gaming then look at the middle budget instead of the more higher end.
Is this a better soundbar than the Samsung J6000 ?
This soundbar or sonos beam ?
A 10 minute video would have sufficed.
When you play content with dolby or dts sound via HDMI....does it show on display 5.1 dolby digital or dts?
When u turn up the volume can you see it????
👍 ℹ️. Can you explain about Bose sound bar 500 or 700?
Im buying this 250 tommorow do i or do i not guys? He let some guy down today aswell vecause i said i can offer more which i said 250s
I think I just missed ur review by a single day. I just purchased Q60 R just yesterday. I watched almost a dozen reviews on soundbars and found this soundbar for around INR 25000/- (read 330 US $) including taxes and I just jumped in. Actually Sony, JBL, YAMAHA were on my list and I never had a great opinion on Samsung audio. All the reviews I have seen, unfortunately I felt not honest and over hyped about Samsung set. My Samsung TV has also supported me to go for a Samsung set. What I felt ( just after a days use) it’s not gonna blow u away with its sound. It’s not consistent and differs on different inputs. I watched a movie Apple TV, vocals was not clear and it tends to get merged with the background noise. You tube videos differs on channels. Mostly I was happy with 15-20 in volumes, but surprisingly for some channels (one or two) even 50 was not enough, mainly vocals. Music on Apple Music, Spotify was just great, even 10-15 was just perfect. But surprisingly for some News Channels, again 10-15 was enough, loud and clear. I think, it was handicapped mainly during movies. I listen to all with Adaptive Sound.
I've been going crazy watching reviews myself. I've shortlisted the Q60R, Philips Performance TAPB603 (320W but Atmos), LG SL6Y and the Q60T. Don't know how different is it from the R. Where did you get it from?! And would you recommend this for 25k which is what you bought it for?! Thanks in advance.
Ankit Batra After one months use, I used to the sound of it and just started loving it. Whatever output I am getting, one thing has to admit, it’s crystal clear. It doesn’t have Atmos, so no surround. However, if you get the Dolby input, you can certainly feel the difference. Bass of Sub is perfect. If you are a music lover, you certainly can go for it. Apple Music, Spotify all are just brilliant even at very low volume. For movies, you could enjoy it with a higher volume. Easy to connect to ur TV. No other noticeable issues. And have to say, it’s built quality. It oozes strength and quality. I will certainly recommend it, if you are a music lover. I just enjoy music in it over and over again. Never used LG and heard there is no difference from 60T. And I got it from Flipkart..It was sold at a lower price against Rs. 30k.
@@RenjithlalSR bro I watch lots of movies and sports and some time ganes like cod. Please tell me if this speaker will impress me.
I m the same person as you, who missed this video and bought q60t speaker. Now i m quite disappointed coz my expectations were higher.. now consoling myself 😥
I shd have opted for polk audio magnify mini
What’s the difference between HW Q60R and HW Q60T? Thanks
Q60T has DTS X and the sound bar is shorter then the Q60R!! Other then that, its the same specs.
Can you review the q80r qnd q90r
Nice Review 👍 what's the second soundtrack you had played? Thanks!
hi ive got the q60r soundbar and got it running threw the hdmi on tv and soundbar and my cable box is running threw my soundbar but my built inn apps on my samsung tv has no sound but my cable tv does what can i do to get sound from my apps on samsung tv to work on the soundbar?
Hi Spacey tropic, thanks for the informative video, I bought the Q60 sound bar at the same price as you did. I agree to every bit you said in the video. I am not impressed with the base at all. I had a vizio old 2.1 channel small sound bar tbh it performed better interms of base. The base on this one doesn't have enough kick, it doesn't fill up the room, Lacking of something. Other than that the sound quality is crisp and clear. My question is, what did u do or what will be the best location to get best experience from this sound bar? Atm, I have it right underneath the tv and its mounted on wall.
would you get another Vizio soundbar over the Q60? like the vizio 5.1.2?
Hi. I have the Samsung MS650 and I’m wondering if this is any better? I dont have a sub so when watching movies the bass is somewhat lacking but mids and highs are very clear. Have you seen/heard the MS650 and can give your opinion?
Hi, did you figured out this :)? I am deciding between samsung ms650, Samsung q60r, LG SL8Y, JBL deep bass 2.1 and Yamaha 209 :)
Im using ms651 and i feel the same like you. I was considering to upgraded between q60r or q60t. Have you decided what you choose for now?
@@muelmyu9119 I kept my MS650 im quite happy with it. I really dont need the extra sub in an apartment.
Hi there! So I just got this soundbar and when I hooked a vinyl player it’s got almost no volume, barely sounds. Do you know why?
Hi Alejandro, my guess is you would need a pre-amp. Regards
Should I buy sony htx8500??? Review this one....Samsung hwq60r or sony htx8500 which would be best buy. Both are at same price in India INR 25000
Hi, i have same question. Which soundbar you decided for at the end?
I was deciding also between te Sony and the Samsung. I just bought the Samsung. I liked that it has a separte subwoofer and even though it lacks DTS X and Dolby Atmos, still supports regular DTS and Dolby, plus it has more channels. Also the Samsung was a tinny bit cheaper.
Is this better compared to the old 321 bose system? Ive been looking to upgrade
I do not have the Bose system but you should buy the Q 60 R because it gives you clear and crisp sound and if you connect your phone to air play it would sound even more crisp and clear it was so good you should try it man just a suggestion
WOULD I BETTER OFF BUYING THE Q90R BAR??
worlds apart
Yes, even the Q80R is a lot better, but you are paying for it.
Jbl Q60R OR JBL 5.1 2020 Please help
I was considering the JBL, but endup buying the Samsung. Seems that the JBL has not great sound quality and it's very boomy because of the subwoofer. I liked the design of the Samsung more and I don't need the Chromecast functionality of the JBL but the Samsung supports DTS which I think is more usefull.
Picked this up at Goodwill $7.50 for the sound bar and $7.50 for the sub.
When I watch this video I thought he should do a in-depth review on the Samsung Q 60 T sound bar and if you really did that I would be so proud and I will and if I could I would subscribe many times to your channel and even like if you did a Q 60 R versus Q 60 T and see which one was better cause I’ve always been with a doubt and I really love your RUclips channel thank you and goodbye
Logitech z906 or Q60r for my living room? Thx in advance!!
Really depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a definite clean sounding system with not an insane amount of bass then get the Samsung Sound Bar, otherwise for everything else in terms of good mids and highs and harder bass definitely go for the Z906 i mean there's no comparison at that point with the z906 coming in at 1000watts peak and 500RMS where the sound bar is 360watts peak and 180RMS. You just need to make note though, the Z906 DOES NOT HAVE AN HDMI PORT. The highest level of sound that can be achieved from it is through the optical port. The Sound Bar has 2 HDMI ports. So if your super keen on that then you'd have no choice but the Samsung, but if you don't care then by all means z906 ITS IS!! Hope this helps you out a bit.
@@spaceytropics samsung hwq60r or sony htx8500 which one is better for 20feet X 20feet room.
@@spaceytropics thx a lot sir!
Got mine for 264 great steal
i noticed the Q60R power adapter output indicates 24V 1.66A, does it means its actual output not more than 40W at max(exclude the subwoofer)?
Yes, none of these products output the quoted 300+ watts. And they don’t need to, either. They’re plenty loud even at 40W.
Just put that joint on layaway Going off the 55" samsung curve 2019 edition.
Is it me or yamaha 209 sound better for the price
Hey, I am having the same question. Did you manage to get reply and which soundbar you purchased at the end? I am considering Samsung q60r, LG SL8Y, JBL deep bass 2.1 and Yamaha 209.
Bro. Calculating RMS isn’t deciding the peak by two… there’s much more involved and the number is definitely more than half…
Sooo... Given that a Porsche can go 170mph even though you will drive no faster than 70 most of the time, it's still worth the money, no? So what's the issue with paying more for a higher peak power? If I want a system that gives me 180W, i'd rather have a system that can reach higher watts and play it on medium volume instead of paying less for a system where I need to have the volume on max to reach 180...
great video. thanks for sharing unfortunately it didn't help with my issue. I purchased the q6cr soundbar and the 75" qled tv. I got everything hooked up properly and I'm not getting any sound out of the sub. I tried for 4 hours unplugging everything and doing it over again still no sound from the sub. I also had a tec friend look at it he had the same issue. So i guess I'll be returning.
Have you tried the manual connection method?
@@Lithium_GI yes i tried everything. I took it back and got a new one and it works amazing great sound and base is awesome
💪
The way you talk and your body language reminds me of Carlos mencia
Why have you got the subwoofer up against the cupboard no wounder why u don't like it. Plus it music is garbage
You forgot to mention that you can add rear speakers to this soundbar.. I found out by reading the manual. I ordered the rear speakers and it makes it a way better system. Also I didn't understand what you ment about you have to place it in the right place 🤔 aren't all soundbar supposed to be placed under a tv? Your review could of been better if you did more research on the product then gave a proper review.. cause it sounds like your just complaining about this being in you bedroom and not in your living room.
Does someone know if it connect to Alexa?
Since the Alexa enable devices come with an AUX port just hook it up to the sound bar via the cable and you should be able to use Alexa with ease. If you have a FireTV however it should just work through the TV without the need for any additional cables. Hope this helps out a bit and thank you for watching.
The remote control does not have a Mic port, so it does not work with Alexa.
Recent Samsung TVs however are Alexa enables and you can give commands but as for a stand alone sound bar with Alexa, the q60r is not.
Hello. Do you have any idea why when connected via bluetooth on the phone to the soundbar in the middle the speaker doesn't work? Tanks
Hi there, so I would assume that only 4 out of the 5 speakers on the sound bar play because the Bluetooth probably doesn't support the surround sound fully. By that i mean the bluetooth was never meant to handle the 5.1 only a 4.1 setup up so 2 mid range drivers and the 2 tweeters on the top of the sound bar plus the sub. Different sources for the sound to play produce different results. Bluetooth and Aux cables are the lower form of it's sound while you get the full fledged sound through either optical or HDMI inputs. Hope this helped to answer your question a little.
@@spaceytropics Thank you very much. And auxiliary and hdmi the same problem. Only through the optical cable are all heard
@@raduradu2261 For the HDMI, 1) was it plugged into the ARC HDMI port and 2) Did you cycle through the settings for Standard, Surround Sound, D.IN etc? those are really the only other things i can come up with right now. If it still persists then it can be one of two things, the audio being pushed quality wise isn't demanding much from the speaker of that middle speaker might not be working in general.
@@spaceytropics Thanks.in the end I leave it so it sounds good and without the speaker in the middle

Hey spacey tropics.......how you doin. I have the Q60 R 5.1 sound bar system. But when I play music or anything for that matter, I only hear sound coming from the left front end and the right front end of the bar. I don't hear anything from the center of the bar or the top of the bar. I think that I should be able to hear sound coming from 5 spots on the sound bar when I move my ear close to it. Can you help me understand what's happening here. Thank you.
To be honest with you if i sit here and wrote a whole bunch of reasons why this is happening I'd be lieing. However, that doesn't mean i don't have my assumptions as to what's going on. I believe the sound bar might be able to sense the different audio profiles coming through so when music plays the outer 2 most speakers play along with the sub only essentially turning your system from a virtual 5.1 system to a 2.1 system. What's the three other speakers for you may ask, well to me they're only there for movies. In movies you have different types of background noises all over, glass shattering, birds tweeting, explosions etc. In order for you to be immerse the sound bar reads the audio being passed through to it and in a way activates those other three speakers and then you get the full virtual surround sound. Honestly after using it over Optical, HDMI ARC and Bluetooth i can say that this is an issue I'm not pleased to see at all. Now these are only my opinions on the system and to be quite honest i'm testing the SONOS Beam right now and boy what a world of a difference with both movies and music let me just say that. I'm sorry if this wasn't much help for you but thank you for watching.
@@spaceytropics Hey...I thank you for replying. I called Samsung care over the phone about the situation. The representative lady Informed me that the sound bar plays outer 2 speakers when there is only dialogue playing. The other speakers play sound when playing a 5.1 type of file like a movie.....So your reply was spot on correct. I played a movie from Amazon prime and all of the speakers were producing sound. Thanks again.
Lol hi, is the acoustic beam feature blockable. I can't instill it ontop of my TV stand (it'll cover my LG c9 tv) or the wall so it has to go in between cabinet. Which is an open area so the sound can still move freely but the top is cover so acoustic beam can't fire upward. If u have time can u test urs out for me. Thanks.
It looks like this. It'll be in the middle area

This soundbar is advertised on the Samsung website with 360 W thats right. According to their website this IS already the RMS. So the double of what you think and also nearly double as this other bullshit soundsystem you recomended
Also there are 8 speakers built into the soundbar
@@jovita2121 First and foremost I'd like to thank you for taking time out to watch my video, i do appreciate it. However i must respectfully disagree. I have checked the Samsung website myself as well. Total Power output for the system is 360Watts and the little question mark next to that number gives a small definition as well so 360 is not the RMS value. The Sound bar i talked about is the Samsung HW-Q60R. Also as for the 8 speakers there has been a misunderstanding. If you look again on the website it states if you want the full real surround sound experience then you can also buy the 2 satellite speakers as rear channels for a true 3D surround sound experience hence the 8 speakers. As stated to me buy the person who sold the sound bar to me from Best Buy he stated 5 speakers, 3 mid range in the front with the 2 tweeters and it comes with the subwoofer. Hopefully this helps to clear any misunderstanding from my video and thank you again for watching.
