There is an excellent book on dry fasting called the Phoenix Protocol by August Dunning, a NASA scientist who was looking for a way to combat radiation damage in astronauts. There is a great deal of information in the book on the bio-chemistry that happens in the body while dry fasting compared to water fasting and what happens over different time periods, published in 2020.
My sister used a 9 day dry fast to eliminate 2 metastasizing tumors in her left breast. Day 5 she said her breast felt like it was on fire. The oncologist wanted to do a mastectomy and fill her full of toxic chemo. She was declared medical miracle after. My sister told the oncologist how she did it, do you suppose the oncologist is now using that protocol in their treatments. NOT Likely.
Also I did a 9 day fast myself and have not had any kidney problems since. One of the things I recall in the book is that the change in body chemistry from a dry fast induces the Kidney to dissolve kidney stones. Take that anecdote for whatever it is worth.

    • @darlenebachesta1355

I read and practiced the Phoenix Protocol. August Dunning has done an amazing job with his research and experience. I have been practicing dry fasting for 6 years. The healing that has occurred, and the health I maintain is off the charts. And much easier than a water “diet” which continues to feed parasites and bacteria. Animals do this all the time. I think being open minded and personal research along with incremental self experimentation is a better recommendation than a loud “NO” . Tons of lost credibility just happened here. What a shame.

I did both a 3 day dry and 3 day water fast. Lost more weight on the dry. My understanding, when you dry fast the body, in the absence of water will break down fat cells in an attempt to normalize fluid volume. The fat cells aren’t just oil. They also contain water. The fat comes off more quickly during the dry fast.

It's great to experiment on yourself like that. I'm no expert but my best guess is that we often benefit from a first time of lots of forms of hormesis, because the body toughens up. I'm not so sure that going to the desert without water on a regular basis would benefit. I'm only interested in weight loss as a secondary effect. I did a three-day water fast a couple of days ago but didn't weight myself. It seems like weight change over a few days doesn't prove a lot.

I really think its important you experience what it actually feels like to dry fast before expressing these opinions. A lot of people would have the same "this is dangerous" opinions about keto and water fasting when they are unaware. No one should go from a standard American diet to dry fasting ofcourse. Your body is probably not prepared for that drastic of a change and they will probably quit because it's not going to be pleasant anyway. But for experienced fasters, they would know the difference between water fasting and dry fasting. Dry fasting is a much more natural state to be in than water fasting. Please I urge you to do more research or experience it for yourself because one truly superior to the other in my experience. There is so much ease in dry fasting while water fasting makes you feel like you are actually starving. Your electrolytes are depleted faster and you feel light-headed and weak. Dry fasting allows you so much ease and strength, drinking water is not something you even think about.

I didn't once hear Dr burg mention dry fasting long periods.
Listen closely Dr boz even states she doesn't consider anything a fast until 36h. That mindset is for extended fasts and not for those who do IF.
Dry fasting during IF os perfectly alright and isn't going to kill anyone.
I don't suggest doing it frequently but to not drink fluids in an 18 to 20h fasting period will not kill you.

To be fair, Muslims dry fast during daylight hours during the month of Ramadan. This has been done annually for about 1500 years. This though is of limited duration -- about 9 to 15 hrs, depending in the time of year -- and children, people with certain illnesses, and currently menstruating women don't do it. Breaking this daily Ramadan fast traditionally is with a few dates and a cup of water, followed later by the iftar meal. It is the extended dry fasts where the problems arise.

Most of the people I have read about dry fasting load in tons of cautions, usually talk about 8-12 hours, and only occasionally say more than 24. I would have to watch Berg's video but I bet he put in some cautions too. I've tried 12 hour dry fasting and would never suggest more. Used for the first 12 hours of a water fast, it can increase the switchover to an actual fasting state (or so I've read). Other than that, seems useless and uncomfortable at best. But many people go 8 hours without drinking all the time, it's called sleep. In fact, now that I think of it, I don't drink anything for 4 hours before bed, so I get about 12 hours most days. If I dry fast in the morning, that brings it up to 24 hours with no ill effects. But then I am 99% carnivore, not a SAD, and a 20 year experienced extended faster. Consider those MY cautions.

Muslims do dry fasts from dawn to dusk for 30 days every year. People with certain medical conditions don’t do the fast. You are also supposed to take it easy and avoid heavy exercise during the fast.
Adding: the dry fast if Ramadan is every day from dawn to dusk, breaking the fast at dusk (Maghrib) usually with water and dates or a light drink. This daily dry fast lasts 30 days and works with your circadian rhythm to reset insulin resistance - it is not recommended for diabetics especially if insulin dependent or for people with other chronic diseases. .

I started my fasting journey after reading Dr. Herbert Shelton who is basically the father of fasting. He made the point that all the critics of fasting were from doctors who had never fasted and never conducted a fast. His critics were full of dire warnings of death and hospitalisation of followers of the fasting fad. It seems that Dr. Boz is making the same mistake in this video by rashly criticising a new idea without doing any research of her own or having done a dry fast herself or having supervised any dry fasts. Dr Filonov in Russia has conducted 25 years of dry fasting in group practice and written two books in Russian. Did Dr. Boz investigate his material before making this video?
A huge amount of water intake goes towards the digestion of food and therefore if you are not eating it stands to reason that you don't need as much water. I think only a moron would jump straight from the SAD diet into dry fasting. Audiences of Dr. Berg are by definition not morons. Therefore proceed with caution. Change your diet, start intermittent fasting, do some extended water fasts, then try a 16 hour dry fast and gradually build up. Even if you are a moron and jump straight from SAD to a dry fast, it is impossible for the body to not go into autophagy and burn fat. Dr. Berg states clearly that endogenous water production is a consequence of burning fat. Dr. Filinov states that endogenous water is produced on day 4 of a water fast and usually on day 1 of a dry fast. This event is called an acidotic crisis which is uncomfortable during wet fasting and barely noticeable on a dry fast.
Jesus fasted without water for 40 days. This shows what the human organism in prime health is capable of. Not that I am suggesting this by any means. Dr. Filinov states that this was still possible 100 years ago before environmental issues seriously impaired the human organism.
Also Dr. Boz is imposing her definition of fasting on Dr. Berg. She insists that fasting means 36 hours when he is clearly recommending a 16 hour dry fast to those who are accustomed to 16 hour water fasts. Speeding up his video to make his voice squeaky. Stating that Dr. Berg is giving dangerous advice, shameless click-bait name dropping, lack of links to his video, facial expressions during his presentation are all signs of disrespect despite her assurances to the contrary at the end of the video. I think Dr. Boz needs to take this video down because it is lowering the tone of her channel.

I have followed and enjoyed your videos for a while now, along with most of the other so called fasting experts. Fasting is a relatively new science, and most of you don’t agree on everything. Dr Goldhamer says we were all born to be vegans, Loren Lockman says we should all be fruictarians, etc…. I find it sad that you call out one person for something you disagree with. He said he’d never recommend anyone going over 24 hrs. To my knowledge nobody in several fasting groups, i’m a part of, have had any issues dry fasting up to 24 hrs. I will agree there are those with issues who shouldn’t, but they should know that going in. Guess who else has several videos with the same time frame? Dr Mindy Pelz, and others. I agree that should be the limit, and of course if you don’t feel good doing it, stop. I have done up to 14 days fasts, and always start my long fasts with a 16-18 hr dry fast. For whatever reason, I feel better starting that way, than just starting a long fast with water alone. Your terms of Never do this is pretty self righteous, for such a new science. None of you are the final authority on anything. Everything always changes when it comes to science. 40 yrs ago science and health industry people said we should stop eating eggs, butter, whole milk, and salt…The whole world got sicker following those recommendations. I think you’d have been better served just expressing your opinion about dry fasting, than by attacking him. 🤦‍♂️

I have found dry fasting very helpful and easier than a water fast.
Dry fasting will redistribute calcium in the body.
When I broke my fibula I dry fasted twice a week for 20-32 hours (usually 24 hours).
I started the second week after the break. 5 weeks later I was released by the doctor and didn’t have to be seen again. The type of break I had was supposed to take 3-6 months to heal and I was 58 and on the standard American diet.
The doctor even asked me what I was doing.
When I have had a flu I dry fast and start to feel better at 16 hours. At 20 hours I feel considerably better and by 24 hours I am over it except for being tired.
The longest I have dry fasted is 130 hours.
I do a quarterly week long fast for my Lyme disease.
(When I do that it puts my symptoms into remission)
I always start my fast with two days dry fasting.
Someday I want to be able to do a 9 day dry fast to eradicate my Lyme disease (there has been success eradicating Lyme this way in Russia.
But I have not been able to fast that long yet (I try to listen to my body)
I think dry fasting is far superior to a water fast.

Producing water has nothing to do with ketosis. Water (and CO2) is a byproduct of using ANY substrate when there are extra hydrogen and oxygen photons (and carbon for CO2). While I do not recommend dry fasting for more than 24hrs, it does have its benefits over water only fasts. Salt and other electrolytes is a big concern not just with any fast, but also with any low carb diet

Dr boz is clueless that the body can heal it's self without water & food. just like wild animals heal their bodies with out rx drugs, food & water.

There is nowhere Dr. Berg states that you should regularly go full days without taking water. He says that you should take water during the eating window. Dr. Boz insists that Dr. Berg said that you should not take any water at all, yet in the Dr. Berg video that she is reviewing, Dr. Berg says you should drink 2.5 liters when you eat! She is twisting Dr. Berg's narrative.
Dr. Berg: You should take 2.5 liters of water during the eating period when you break your fast.
Dr. Boz: Dr. Berg stated that you should completely not take water!

I know he has helped so many and I was once a fan. But I have to very respectfully disagree on the assessment of him being a good person. It always bothered me that he seems to hide that his "Dr." is not from being a medical doctor, but from being a chiropractor. I respect chiros, but it just seemed "off" that he goes to such lengths to not mention that and keep it hidden. So I did some more research on him and what I found out was terribly unsettling. His business practices with his supplment company are concerning. And the fact that he is a huge financial contributor to Scientology really bothers me. Fundig the horrible abuses people are suffering in the Scientology organizations is just so unethical. I stopped watching him completely.

Dr Boz is wrong. (sorry she is wrong). Dry fasting is a healing fast much better then water fasting. Sea "Michelle Slater dry fasting lyme" vi. ds.
Dry fasting has been around for 1000's of years. In the middle east even TODAY they still dry fast weekly/monthly/annually. In fact they dry fast for 30 days for religious & healing purposes every year. This religous Holiday is called Ramandan (look up) and there are endless studies about the healing power of these dry fasting (studies conducted in the Middle East/Europe). They fast from sun up to sun down for 30 days. During the sun up times they do not eat or drink = dry fasting. Then while they sleep the same thing dry fasting. so they only eat twice per day. They also dry fast twice a week all year and during the 13, 14, 15 of every month.
Dry fasting is a common practice outside of the US. In fact in Russia they government health department even have government dry fasting health clinic retreats free for citizens to go to, to heal all types of health issues. At these clinics people are dry fasting for 8-9 days then refeed for a certain time period then dry fasting again for 8-9 days and healing all sort of major health issues.
Dry fasting works. And guess what YOU ARE NOT THRUSTY OR HUNGRY ON A DRY FAST. the body knows how to survive. And, we have been lied to that you can only go without water for a few days. Dry fast are much easier then water fast. Obviously there are certain heal issues that people should not dry fast including kidney issues, pregnant etc so look these up "who should not dry fast".
sea chan vids: Michelle Slater dry fasting lyme vids and book. She went to Russia Dry fast clinic where a doctor has been dry fasting patients for over 20 years with great success in heal patients from all types of health issues. Look up the Russian doctor Michelle talks about he also has a dry fasting clinic in Spain.
channels for dry fasting: Dry Fasting club and A Health Alternative.
Just because doctors in the US dont know about Dry fasitng does not mean all doctors dont know the healing powers of dry fasting. Our bodys are miricles and now how to heal it's self. But BIG phrama doesnt want people to know this truth they want to keep you sick & taking their rx drugs that most dont cure your health issues.
combined fasting with keto and/or carnviore and you will get your health back. it might take a month or years but, you will get your health back.
I have done many 65-72 hour dry fast and am healing from a tick bit. it works. Just because Dr Boz knows nothing about dry fasting does not mean you shouldn't reserach dry fasting on your own. REMEMBER YOU HAVE BUILT IN DEVICES TO HEAL YOUR BODY.
Dr Boz please do more reserach on dry fasting. It's a super power fast that heals eveyrthing. Remember Dr Boz our bodies KNOW HOW TO HEALTH its self. Back 100+ years ago 90% of our Rx drugs on the market did not even exist. Doctors used good clean food, herbs and fasting to heal patients bodies. Big pharma doesnt want people to remember this FACT.

Practicing physician weighing in (pun intended). The consistent albatross that hangs about the neck of any lifestyle intervention is the attrition of its participants. Change is inherently difficult, especially as it pertains to diet. Apart from the potential negative health consequences advocated by Dr. Berg here, adding torture upon what is already a difficult proposition (water fasting) because of a supposed small theoretical advantage is ill-advised for those needing to adhere to a therapeutic intervention and would all but guarantee a large drop out rate.
