- In this new series, plantswoman Carol Klein shares with us a year in her garden at Glebe Cottage in north Devon. Carol has looked after her garden for over 30 years, and each year brings with it its own rewards and delights, as well as problems and challenges. Follow Carol as her garden grows, flourishes, dies and is reborn.
The first episode covers January and February. The frosts have not yet released their grip on the garden, and the devastation of a hard winter is scattered all around. There is much to do - cutting back, preparing the soil and garlic planting. The first green shoots of the year begin to appear, as drifts of snowdrops carpet the woodland floor and hellebores reveal their ravishing colours. A local woodsman joins Carol to lay a native hedge. Slowly the first signs of spring appear.

You are a glorious woman. I can’t get enough of watching and learning.
You are unbelievable working in winter where in the Northeast of US our soil is frozen until March usually. I love all your shows giving me ideas to improve mine. Thank you and keep going. Your greatest Britain gardens I can't get enough of.
Hello I guess you must be one of his fans?
Thank you Carol. We learned so many practical things from you. Thank you too for posting this. You’re helping many people to love the Mother Earth who’s so good to all of us.
Oh Carol! You are a kindred spirit. We working the same jobs at the same time thousands of miles apart but together. When I put on my headphones and watch each new video---especialy this one I feel like you are talking just to me and inspiring me on every step. But I don't mind sharing you with the rest of our green world. You are my Sister of the Soil.
I wish I could tell you how much you feed my soul when I watch you in your cottage garden. Thank you Caro Klein.

Carol, I love your beautiful voice, laughter and you. And your wonderful garden. Thank you for sharing with us. You're the best.
We stand with you ❤. In the city of Vancouver, Canada.
The winter was so very cold that gardens all over are half dead. As all gardeners...we March on!!!
( we can now experiment with the utmost abandon)...love nature, and the grounds we create upon them.
Quite a few Garden programmes to watch but each one individually is amazing. Your enthusiasm is never ending Carol. Watching you gardening is like opening a Lucky Packet you never know what surprise is waiting on you. Great to divide the garden into different rooms, I also love the Woodland garden, there is magic happening in there. It was a great video. Thank you for all the hints.
I watched all episodes of 'Life in a cottage garden' so often and each time I feel like discovering something differnt. Carol Klein is an endless source of inspiration. Also for my own garden and RUclips account.

Absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much!
Oh what a treat love Carol, looking forward to this series. Thank you.
I started with the early spring video, and have watched the whole year. Carol has such energy, and an understanding of nature, gathered from years of experience. I'm also a world away in Southern California, where citrus trees and bougainvillea bloom in February. But the same philosophies apply, and I still do pruning and clean up. It's often warm by the time the rain starts for the year, so it's necessary to strip off all the leaves to prevent fungus when pruning roses. Lavender and rosemary need partial shade to survive late summer temps that can fry a plant in an hour. While specifics may be different, we gardeners belong the same tribe. The living fence/hedge is amazing, and I love those woven willow panels. I'm sure I can make something very like from soft wood shrubs I have here. Sending this inspiration on to my friends. Thanks for sharing it. :)
Thank you ,Carol ,I have learnt a lot from you !
