@@0waverunner0 The only other game that eats 64gb of RAM that I know. Probably DCS, and then only on the server with a lot of players and AI units. Even then you will be able to play it with 16gb of RAM but will catch stutters during long distance flights when loading in and unloading units.
Star Citizen is very badly optimized, everybody knows this, they themselves do not hide it. From what I know there is a plan that polishing and optimization would be done when tech is developed and finished (Not the best approach, optimization ideally should be part of development from proof of concept up to full releas).
But with money inflow starting to slow down drastically, features get postponed. If time for polish and optimization comes it will be rushed out the door probably. Sad reality, their Management is bad with money and managing work.

Remember in 2012 when Chris said he could deliver the best damn space sim ever in just 2-3 years (otherwise things will get stale) for a measly 6 million? And then said they could deliver an even better space sim ever for just 65 million, without significantly delaying the project (he literally said that in a letter from the chairman in 2013, that adding more goals for more money wouldn't delay it - thereby demonstrating he knows nothing about software development or project management). And so, here we are, 12 years later, with CIG approaching the 1 billion mark (including private investments and other income) and they still haven't delivered a game with the amount of content they said they could deliver for a hell of a lot less.

The model is very simple: find a bunch of genetically challenged |\/|0R0|\|S, preferably white and r@cist, with those tiny tech-pron weeners and pink sausage fingers on their stubby arms. Then go out and find a bunch of 3rd rate 3D designers to make their stupid beadie eyes pow out of their skippy ball sized empty skulls. That's it.
Next; Just keep designing and iterating ever more stupid looking 'space' ships. Do that FOREVER. Then sell them to the |\/|0R0|\|S who's lifes basically can be summed up as wanting to go "pew pew" in some basement as their retarded wife/girls/pleasure-sheeps sits downstairs becoming a ball of lard watching streaming services as well. Only the literally dumbest of the dumb fracks will do of course. We all know the type.
I mean straight up mental patients with just enough intellect to hold a job pushing some button somewhere inside the walls of of some soul crushing job. As long as the designers keep pumping up designs and King F@fack himself, Chris ASPERGERS Roberts, plays the circus master and announcers of one epic CIRCLE JERK.. Now you have a never ending revenue stream of D\/MB F\/CK money coming in. Now, pay attention now this part is crucial: You use all your personell (basically all DESIGNERS and two 2004 level CryteK SCRIPTERS not even devs..) to make more 3D content and shove that up their stupid a55es as well .RINSE AND REPEAT. What guarantees they keep throwing money at this thing: PURE STUPIDITY, OCD and straight up m3nt@l retardation. Frack all of them! Who wants to be part of a decade long sh!t show!? For me, it's 2023, during IAE, which had free fly. This was during my slump time with Elite (I am still burned/wishing for a seat skin to bring back the OG Odyssey passenger chairs), and while I've seen Mandalore's video, I was slightly impressed with what all occurred. I enjoyed the salvaging gameplay, and all the internal loops. I then got goomba stomped on the Reclaimer's bridge and given a fast travel to the hospital.
So, I ended up buying the Syulen package, and basically accepted that I have front row seats to the insanity, and in all honesty... I've enjoyed it. Yes, 3.23 has been... just bad, but I'd look over at my CMDR badge and question which was worse. I'm sorry my Fed Corvette, Spoiler Pancake, and Glorious Python... but the grind for you just sucked and required me to basically exploit the market to not go insane. I just wish the VR support wasn't thrown under the bus when space legs became a thing... that alone would have kept me from donating to the Chris Roberts retirement fund program.

In 2014 they were already talking about landable areas with creatures. (And putting out exploration ship adverts showing the same). Proc gen surfaces were a stretch goal that same year. The scope was ballooning, but all of the dreams stayed on the table. And got monetized ;)
As they rolled out the new planetary tech they repeatedly talked up it's ability to scale. (By 2019 they presented their 'future proof' planet tech v4, which would definitely make 100 solar systems possible. It's now being superseded by planet tech v5...)
They're still selling their exploration ships. They still haven't officially dumped the 100 systems target. (The other 95 are just supposed to come after launch ;)). All the dreams are still on the table. And still in the store...

SC is like dark souls but instead of punishing bosses it's just bugs. the search and rescue cave missions are still bugged 4 years later. there has been, is, and will no doubt continue to be a massive issue with scope in regards to development of this game. nothing ever gets polished because something else gets thrown in before any polishing can take place. it's beyond frustrating and I refuse to give them any more money than the basic pledge.

Honestly good video, i was really craving a deep dive of all the "actually delivered" content over the years since as a backer from 2014, memorie gets blurry between what is and what was promised.
Accountability is needed for the project to have a chance to become what everyone dreams it to be.
But to my limited understanding of game dev and funding, SQ42 needs to release on time if CIG wants to be able to keep their progress up.
First freeing up the devs yes, but you can only milk your current backers so much, they need new people and backers. And SQ42 is a corner stone in that regard.
Anyway good video, we need reviews like that to keep the project in its tracks !

I was always very positive about SC. Even with the snail's pace of development and constant delays, I remained positive, because I could see through the problems to the potential that was there.
This year has shattered that positivity. It was the flight model change that did it. I was never a sweaty PvP guy, I did occasional player bounties, but mostly did PvE, and flight has gone from being a joy to a chore. I really hope they get their shit together soon.

I used to be a big supporter of this game, and would be among the first to leap to its defence when people called it a scam. Now, however, I have nothing but disdain for the way this trainwreck of a project is being run, and I don't believe for a second that Squadron 42 will be done in 2026 (why is it ALWAYS two years away??). At this point I've given up hope that we're ever going to get a game, I just can't see it happening with the way things are going. By all logic this business model should have failed, how they're still trading (and I use the word "trading" in its broadest possible sense) is beyond me.

@Billy-bc8pk I get that, I really do. But how much time? Another five years? Ten years? Twenty? Are we still going to be having this conversation in 2040? If they had something resembling a MVP on the shelves (doesn't matter what), I'd feel differently - they can do what they want with their own money - but they don't, and will be relying exclusively on players' good will for at least another five years. I could even forgive that if they'd been honest about this from the start, but they really haven't. Surely a logical person like you can understand why some people are losing patience.

    • @Billy-bc8pk
      @Billy-bc8pk День назад +1

@@SuburbanFox Instead of looking at it from the perspective of an MVP, instead look at it from the perspective of: are you
having fun for the money invested?
To be quite frank, I feel Star citizen is a more fleshed out game than Helldivers 2, even though people will swear Helldivers 2 is a "complete" game, even though it has no actual campaign, no proper story or mission structures, and is just kind of a lobby-based PvE arena shooter. But it's packaged like it's complete, has a proper tutorial, a good intro cinematic, and in-game rewards you can earn. But it's not really a traditional game, and has no end-game, and has no way to actually beat it. You also get way more content in Star Citizen, even though Star Citizen is way buggier.
So the question becomes, why is an MVP for Star Citizen so important when it already has way more content than a lot of other "finished" games? Shouldn't the main criteria be that it's playable, fun, and mostly polished? Because in that regard, I don't really care how long CIG spends developing it, just so long as they keep making it better.
Now... Squadron 42? Yes, I agree, it NEEDS to be released in 2026.

It feels like every year its 50 new ships, maybe 5 are straight to flyable with none of the games features. Like where is engineering, where is functional escape pods, where is building? They have all these really cool features they want to give us but all they actually give us is some redundant ship. Maybe if they stopped with all the new ships, and focused on the ones they already have planed and the ACTUAL GAME IT WOULD GET RELEASED!

If the scope had been clear from the start, and a dev team organically grown from the starta 10 years ago I think the state of the game today would have been completely different, BUT that also would hinge on engine stability. Switchin engines, or using a sub-par one for your purposes is also detrimental. So maybe it wouldn't be possible to fix the SC developemnt even with perfect hindsight.

CIG regularly randomly delete ships you buy in-game, effectively removing tens of millions of auec from your account whenever they release a patch. But this never happens to real money bought ships because of course it doesn't. They call this a bug but if so, it's a big that's very convenient for ship sales, and has been around for many years. They also have not given their support people any ability to restore these ships, ships that can easily take many months of in-game grinding to earn. So consider that before you spend any money on this project.

When you see it as MS Flight Sim in space it's ok. Since I "play" Star Citizen I don't play MSFS anymore because HQ spaceships and nice landscapes to explore. For just chilling and flying around it's good. Sleeping (log in/out) in ship, respawn in ship (thanks medbed/nursa) and restock with what you find evades most of bugs and if a bug hits you you respawn in your ship. Thus you can avoid broken hangars, clumsy inventory, elevators, waiting times and transportations on stations (=useless unfun timesinks).

So while the money keeps flowing they'll keep messing around with idiotic changes that make the game even slower and more buggy instead of fixing bugs and fleshing out and finishing fun and playable game loops. Though at this point I'm not sure finishing anything is even possible with Chris in charge.
Just a week or two ago they nerfed fuel tanks so almost all small ships can no longer cross the single system they have released. Then they released a ship people have been waiting a decade for (and paid huge money for) and a few days later put up torpedo prices so high that nobody can afford to use that ship. Seriously it takes millions to restock that ship and nothing in the game generates that kind of cash.

We got master modes and now CIG are musing about removing them again, not to mention every other flight model rework. Time to kill has been changed more times than I can remember.

The moment even mediocre players can earn ships in-game rather than get fed-up with waiting and cash-buying one (or several) the cash tree dries up and dies.
This probably wasn't intentional in the beginning but $750,000,000 later and it becomes the definning business model for CIG.
Actual unrealistic 'realistic' gaming: flaking out and deading because I didn't drink some water for 2 hours.. like seven hundred years in the future suit manufactureres haven't managed to incorporate a drinking tube into helmets with a CamelBak reservoir.
I've put probs £320 into the game over the last 4 years.. now all I do is open the launcher to check for updates.

I feel like game doesn't pioneer in technology, but rather wait it to be developed by someone else and copy it.

Some aspects of SC have been playable at any given time and some of those were occasionally fun.
I don't even consider it a bad game. It's just an alpha so there isn't much to judge, yet.
When it ever becomes a beta and we can see what features are even in we'll be able to tell something.

@gazz3867 dont judge an alpha... after 15 YEARS!?! Do you hear yourself? No alpha in history has gone on this long and they dont even have the basics of not falling through floors and elevators fixed.... after 15 YEARS. How many more times do they have to move the endgame goalposts of "beta/release" before you realize it will NEVER leave alpha. How many years to you becomes more of a parody and joke than 15 years? 20? 30? And dont say "oh thats silly" because thats EXACTLY what people were saying when people suggested 15 years a decade ago. 😄😆😅😄😆

Using Kotaku articles as references...... I gave this video the benefit of the doubt up until that point. After that, i'll be watching it as Satire. o7

      Regardless, you know it's a cluster-f don't you?
Deep down, despite your significant emotional and financial investment, you understand that a 'game' in which, after a decade you are not sure if you'll survive using a lift is in a bad state don't you?
Adding 'features' on a broken foundation will never be a recipe for success, only failure.

15 years of game development and still unable to get in a ship, fly to a planet and do anything without a hitch? THAT is what i call satire. Its literally mocking the stupidity of the paying customer. 😄😄😆😆😆

forgot the pupul to planet video in Dec 2015 (xmas present) that happened before Gamescom 2016, that accellerated the change to the new planetary landing possibility

i want trashcans in SC the despawns items like cans, people do try to use them even now
fu out of fun i did bui9ld a pyramit out of tehm one time
the same applies to ships in cities, they have to disappear after a certain time, as the server runs like shit after a handful of days due to dozens of ships leaving
the last time I saw it at the trade fair was 64 ships that were parked in a citys or landing pads from minig stations where a ship has been abandoned for days
as a player, you can't get rid of these becasue of weapons lock
it not much but it would help
