SingForAbsolution 01 HAHA! Although I'm a SoCal native, my honey and I will be visiting SD this year for 7 days beginning Labor Day Weekend. We'll be staying in Mission Beach. Any food recommendations!? Thanks in advance 😊
MUSIC LOVER of course! I highly recommend Lahaina Beach House, a nice Mexican Seafood spot with great beer. It’s up the boardwalk closer to Pacific Beach. Baked Bear is an awesome dessert place that’s on the corner of Mission and Garnet. And of course, if you’re looking for a more popular place to eat, Phil’s BBQ is down in Sports Arena, and Hodads is in Ocean Beach! I personally don’t know a whole ton of good places along mission beach so I would ask the locals of that area. :)
MUSIC LOVER place is amazing. But there’s already a huge line that might take up to an hour by the time they even open for the day. So keep that in mind
As a Navy guy who lived there for nearly ten years, I am glad you mentioned Adalbertos and the California Burrito! It was the life blood of the Pacific Fleet.
Born, raised and still live in San Diego. For the record, there is a difference between a Mexican restaurant and a burrito shop. Go to both of you're visiting. California burritos are amazing but you need to ask what they put on it. Some places don't put sour cream or guac on it. I like mine with fries, cheese, carne asada and sour cream only. Everyone has a favorite burrito shop. Most are very good regardless. Burrito shops in San Diego are the best in the world. Yes, better than Mexico. Without question the best in America. Where Mark went in this episode is no where near the top places near Downtown. Only 3 blocks north of where he went is a place called Hombertos. Much much much better in my opinion. To be clear, burrito shops are usually hole in the wall joints. Mexican restaurants are sit down and relax places with waiter service. Don't get burritos there. They wont be as good. The burrito shops make the burritos big, greasy and give you lots of hot sauce that is made in house.
Yeah, we mistakenly took some friends to eat a burrito in Old Town; it came on a plate with salsa on top, to be eaten with silverware. It was not pretty, though they didn't know the difference. Next day we took them to a taco shop.
San Diego is a beautiful place. A little pricey...but I'm from the MidWest. I did have one of those burritos..Worth every bit.. filled me up for the rest of the day.
Parmesana ruclips.net/video/cwqvNWGjBrw/видео.html if you’re ever visiting San Diego here’s an awesome video of low budget/ FREE things to do and see here
"a calorie bomb of happiness" hahahaha that they are!! I'm from LA and went to college in Irvine so I've eaten MANY a delicious San Diego adventure. Best Mexican food EVER. Encinitas too!!! BTW Mark, I came back from Costa Rica a week ago, and thanks to your tips, we had the best time! We went to Tambor, Montezuma, and San Jose. Just perfection. Such an amazing country. Thank you for your help!!
My home city! Nice to see someone talking about San Diego. I recommend everyone going to Downtown to try the Donut Bar. They have some amazing donuts and you can have a nice drink while you’re there.
Seconding the Donut Bar! I love the Simpson theme and the maple bacon donuts, omg. Though, I could not possibly make a list of all the food places I think everyone needs to try in SD lol.
😮 I lived in san diego for over 30 years and my go to food is Carne asada chips with guac and sour cream and pico de gallo at Roberto or any Bertos..because I heard they are related.
One of my favorite meals in San Diego is the mula at Tacos El Gordo. It's a tortilla with carne asada, salsa, mozzarella cheese, topped with another tortilla. They also have stores in Vegas.
As a San Diego native, I completely agree with these foods!!! For Mexican food, try and find the smallest place. The smallest restaurants seem to have the best food!
Robertos and Albertos are the original taco stands. Now you have all their cousins opening taco stands: Adalberto, Romiberto, Hilberto, Huberto and so on. LOL!
Im so ready for visit home😭 The diversity of San Diego is amazing. From Filipino food to Mexican food. Italy to Jamaica.Beautiful vibes and there's nothing like a shrimp burrito at the beach.Tfs💞
ACE7O2 forget the pies. U can order at stater brothers for those Julien pies or buy those sme pies in person, same store.I recommend "Tacos el gordo" and "Lourdes Mexican Food" in escondido. It even made the news. Oh and try the ice cream cone place at the coronado hotel, its hidden!
I didn't have much time in SD to experience the food but the weather is nearly perfect. Low 60s in the morning, low 70s in the afternoon. No humidity. Beautiful city.
...being from San Diego.., you hit the nail on the head... everyone should visit SD, you won't believe it. ..ppl are always like "wow, you grew up there, I love that place"
California have a lot of good places to eat ..from the hole in the wall to the more fancy ..but the fact is ..it always tast real good ..love from Norway :D
If you go to San Diego for burgers, I honestly feel sorry for you. Treat yourself on Convoy Street if you want the best food in town. Right next to O'Brien's is Tofu House, a Korean restaurants that's been there for decades. They specialize in boiling tofu soup. And next to Tofu House is Tasty Noodle house, a top notch Chinese restaurant. And right by Tasty Noodles House is Raki Raki, a high end ramen spot. And behind Raki Raki is Pokeritto, a trendy poke place. And that's just one block of Convoy Street. The whole street is wall to wall Asian restaurants.
Nice video. Growing up in Southern California I could get the first 2 just about anywhere, especially in the Inland Empire. I also love the shout out to local breweries. San Diego does have a great beer scene.
did he mention the restaurant name? no. did he mention the restaurant location? no. this video is meant for people who know nothing about san diego. are they supposed to be psychic?
+Mike Hascats Like Mark expressly said in the intro, he's NOT gonna name everything. He says Mexican food in general is great and shows the Old Town Mexican Cafe ladies doing their thing. Just like showing several craft beers without specifically listing pubs and breweries. People get it and can seek out things on their own. Besides, if he told everyone to go to OTMC, some people will jump on and say it's way too touristy.
non-californians dont even know what old town is, but you expect them to know exactly what restaurant is in the video. i would like to recommend a great restaurant to you, tosh. it is in new york. i'm not going to tell you which restaurant it is, but i expect you to go there. are you going to try it out?
+Mike Hascats Thanks. I just googled it. Looks good but reviews say it’s overrated. Next time I'm in NYC, I'll be sure to skip it. In all seriousness, videos like this inspire people to do their research. You see ladies making tortillas. Google "best tortillas San Diego" and the top three places listed in order are Gabriels, Cafe Coyote and Old Town Mexican Cafe. Took less than five seconds. Do the same for best beer, best fish tacos, best donuts, best burgers and then make your own decisions. Easy.

Yes! This place looks like a prison cell, but has a line down the block of every type of person. That's always a good sign. Their tortillas are the best in town!
My wife and I lived in San Diego through the 90s and I never had any of the foods you talked about. Our staples back then were In 'n out, fish tacos at Rubio's, Stuart Anderson's Black Angus in El Cajon, Lotsa Pasta, and especially Panda Inn in Horton Plaza. Additionally, there were 4 or five excellent Chinese restaurants in greater San Diego we loved. We also loved a restaurant called Guadalajara Grill in Old Town before the entire kitchen staff was deported. I worked for the publisher of The San Diegan, and the owner gave me hundreds of dollars worth of certificates to very expensive restaurants in Del Mar and La Jolla. The high-end restaurants in San Diego do not disappoint. They were amazing!
I've started doing a 5 Eats video in each country and major city. They haven't been getting many views but I love making them and I think they can be helpful so I'm going to keep making them :)
I live in California and I love San Diego. One warning: don't try to drive from L.A. to San Diego on a weekend late morning or afternoon- serious gridlock! :-( Starting early is always best. But when you make it, do see Balboa Park (the Zoo is there, too) and Old Town . And, of course, munch out!
Anyone who visits the Gaslamp District (where he's filming) I recommend you make your way to Old Town for some fantastic outdoor mexican restaurants and sight seeing! You can get there directly by taking the trolley.
I prefer the carne asada burrito with guacamole and sour cream... to die for. Also rolled tacos smothered in guacamole, lettuce, and queso (cheese). These two are available in San Diego 24 hours a day at many drive-thru Mexican shops.
I live in San Diego and I am very much agreeing with what you have said. Definitely the California Burrito and all the awesome brunch places around here.
Hidden gems: I love Santana's for Mexican food (including the Cali Burrito and several types of meats like carne asada with fries and chips). Johns Fish and chips. Matua's Island Grill (island style foods from Hawaii and Guam and also sushi). If you love coffee we have local spots like Better Buzz coffee and Pavaraga (coffee from Hawaii). Oh and Filipino food here is numerous. Hit up Zarlitos in National City. Healthy spot that's awesome is Mango Mango. This us just to name a few! I live in San Diego and these are a few of my favorite spots!
I have a couple co-workers of mine that are from the San Diego area and they can vouch that the burritos they make in San Diego are MASSIVE. Bigger burritos that what you would find at a Qdoba or Chipotle.
Born and raised in North County SD. Lil tip, you could easily sub the carne asada in the fries or burrito with adobada, or chicken. Could Even have half & half or ask to add shrimp. Welcome.
Tucson Az has carne asada fries, super nachos, Sonoran hot dogs, great Mexican food. Love San Diego weather. Mr Fish and Chips, Blue Water Grill I believe it's called
Oh HELL yes ! Grew up in SD in the 60's & 70's-every year in October the fam would take a Sunday drive up to Julian. Manzanita Ranch. My Mom made a OUTSTANDING apple pie-my Grandmother on Dad's side was born & raised in the Witch Creek area many many moons ago-she learned how to cook on a wood fired stove. Her apple pies-mere words cannot describe them. Memories..........
You've gone too far this time! Ahhhh, the droooool! Looks amazing, this was delicious to watch. Love San Diego, I need to go back and grab that crazy fry-burrito! Yum!
I've lived in San Diego my Whole life so it's hard for me to imagine not eating a California Burrito at least once a week I'm so sorry for everyone else ;(
Great video! I plan to take two or three vacations this year and San Diego is def. on my list of places I want to visit. If I do end up going there this year, I want to try all of these! Especially the Carne Asada fries. Yummy. Geesh, now I'm hungry.
As a San Diegan, I can tell you that one of the best places to get a burger is Hodad's!! There is one in Downtown SD and one in Ocean Beach (Ocean Beach one is always more crowded). Guy Fieri actually came to Hodad's to taste their famous burger in the old show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives!!
As a San Diegan, I can tell you that California Burritos and Carne Asada Fries make up 15% of my food intake
SingForAbsolution 01 HAHA! Although I'm a SoCal native, my honey and I will be visiting SD this year for 7 days beginning Labor Day Weekend. We'll be staying in Mission Beach. Any food recommendations!? Thanks in advance 😊

MUSIC LOVER place is amazing. But there’s already a huge line that might take up to an hour by the time they even open for the day. So keep that in mind
Only 15??? Lmao mines like 60%
As a Navy guy who lived there for nearly ten years, I am glad you mentioned Adalbertos and the California Burrito! It was the life blood of the Pacific Fleet.
San Diego is my home! ❤️
Just moved in
What tree is that in your pfp?
Love it but don’t forget to keep it simple. Can’t go wrong with rolled tacos from any place that ends in “bertos”
Roberto’s, Alberto’s, Lolita’s, El Gorditos … it’s difficult to find a bad Mexican food place in San Diego.
Born, raised and still live in San Diego. For the record, there is a difference between a Mexican restaurant and a burrito shop. Go to both of you're visiting. volleyguy1001 it's called a taco shop
Jojo Soto Rookie mistake. BURRITO SHOP.
Lolita’s is the creator of the California Burrito.
Yeah, we mistakenly took some friends to eat a burrito in Old Town; it came on a plate with salsa on top, to be eaten with silverware. It was not pretty, though they didn't know the difference. Next day we took them to a taco shop.

😮 I lived in san diego for over 30 years and my go to food is Carne asada chips with guac and sour cream and pico de gallo at Roberto or any Bertos..because I heard they are related.
Yep. World's best hangover cure was a Roberto's Carne Asada burrito. EVER.
One of my favorite meals in San Diego is the mula at Tacos El Gordo. It's a tortilla with carne asada, salsa, mozzarella cheese, topped with another tortilla. They also have stores in Vegas.
Bill Green the best tacos in sd hands down🤤
Tacos El Gordo is soooooooo fkng amazing!! Omg
I’m Mexican and I’ve been around to many Mexican joints lots of canned beans and not authentic but tacos el gordo definitely has the best pastor 💯
Good sloppy burgers in SD: Hodad's Ocean Beach.
Architect Overlord hell yeah dude!!! That's like spot my family and u go ALL the time
Oh hell yeah. I like Slater’s 50/50 in Point Loma too. Tiolis Crazee Burger 🔥🔥🔥
Hell yeah!! I had likeba foot tall burger xD
As a San Diego native, I completely agree with these foods!!!
For Mexican food, try and find the smallest place. The smallest restaurants seem to have the best food!
I would probably also advice, the closer to the mexican border the better the food gets.
I always find that the dirtiest looking places and the places that look kinda sketchy, always have the best food and nicest staff.
I miss Julio’s. They had great Mexican food.
As someone who has lived in San Diego for 36 years take the trolley and go to Tijuana for real Mexican food.
Not at the current state of TJ
Robertos and Albertos are the original taco stands. Now you have all their cousins opening taco stands: Adalberto, Romiberto, Hilberto, Huberto and so on. LOL!
Like my Dad always says, as long as it has "bertos" at the end of the name, you know it'll be good.
Which one would you say is the best of the "Bertos" ?
A trip to San Diego without a trip to Hodads is a wasted trip. Two locations, Ocean Beach and downtown.
Man I miss San Diego
Im so ready for visit home😭
The diversity of San Diego is amazing. From Filipino food to Mexican food. Italy to Jamaica.Beautiful vibes and there's nothing like a shrimp burrito at the beach.Tfs💞

Tacos El Gordo in Chula Vista is a must! The Al Pastor and Carne Asada tacos are to absolutely die for.
Yes, their campechana fries, don’t even know if I spelled it right but definitely best authentic tacos if you can’t get down to TJ
Oooh, you make me homesick! We now live on the East coast, and I pine for San Diego weather, food, and friends!
I miss it too :) how are carne asada fries not a thing EVERYWHERE?????
Victoria F. ...me too😳😭😳

Can get this stuff pretty much everywhere in California
California rocks! Keep it up Mark :)
Thanks! I had a great time
how could you not mention the homemade tortillas at old town mexican cafe?
+Mike Hascats 🤔 What? He included a very long shot of the ladies making tortillas @1:50.
did he mention the restaurant name? no. did he mention the restaurant location? no. this video is meant for people who know nothing about san diego. are they supposed to be psychic?

Couple pictures of Mexican food in the video are from there. It was so good. Good comment to add. Thank you.
San Diego rocks and the food is great. If you go, Harry's in La Jolla is open from 0600 to 1500 every day and has the best breakfast.

Yum!
San Diego native here and you nailed it!!
Very informative😎
Going to Old Town in two weeks. Thanks for the tips, I will be checking out Adalbertos.
I've lived in San Diego my Whole life so it's hard for me to imagine not eating a California Burrito at least once a week I'm so sorry for everyone else ;(
Those carne asada fires are a huge hit amongst teens here in Wyoming. It's really a staple
They are huge period :) hehehee
Very different in Wyoming. It's like trying to get authentic New York style pizza in Utah or something. I'm sure it's good, but not San Diego good.
Dude I don't know they are pretty legit
Wesley Rice wyomimg doesnt exist
A staple in Wyoming? Yeah ok
Love your videos
Thank you!
Great video! I plan to take two or three vacations this year and San Diego is def. on my list of places I want to visit. If I do end up going there this year, I want to try all of these! Especially the Carne Asada fries. Yummy. Geesh, now I'm hungry.
Rubios, Colima's and Hodads are the 3 places we always visit in San Diego

shrimp god ob noodle house player
Awesome video!
Thank you
As a San Diegan, I can tell you that one of the best places to get a burger is Hodad's!! There is one in Downtown SD and one in Ocean Beach (Ocean Beach one is always more crowded). Guy Fieri actually came to Hodad's to taste their famous burger in the old show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives!!
