    Thanks for this. I'm preparing to have to care for my wife who has a terminal brain tumour. I'm keen to do as much of the caring as I can so this was really helpful. I like how you emphasise that this isn't a chore but a privilege. Thank you ladies!

      Chris, you must go to our website www.thecareplan.net and spend seven dollars to get our booklet. We have been hospice nurses for 45 years and the information in it is being used nationally to train Hospice teams and caregivers. It will help you with any symptoms that arise when she becomes bedbound. I have trmendous compassion for you on this road walking with your wife and hope that you will ask for your local palliative and hospice team to support you in every step. Do it early! This is our mission. best wishes to you and how wonderful for your wife to have such a loving, proactive husband.

      There are many options. Basically any chair that is supportive and water repellent can work. You can use a plastic outdoor chair, a purchased shower chair with a back, and those usually have adjustable legs to make them taller or shorter, depending on the patient’s height, a plastic garden bench, and even the commode that you might be using for toileting. Take the bucket out and when the patient sits on it, you could even provide the Peri care easily. Best wishes. Visit our website www.thecareplan.net for lots more info.

Please visit our website and I urge you to get a copy of our booklet that reviews all of the major symptoms that may occur and how to manage them often without medication. Care is treatment! I certainly hope you have a professional team helping to take care of your mother. The hospice nurse will be checking oxygen level and suggesting adding oxygen if she is uncomfortable, lying flat and unable to accept care. Shortness of breath is best managed with very low-dose narcotics, and that would require the order from a doctor, please visit our website and get our booklet that will review the management of shortness of breath and other major symptoms that occur as a patient is declining. Care is treatment! Thank you for your comment and best wishes to you and your mother. She’s lucky to have you taking care of her.

      @TheHospiceCarePlan  11 месяцев назад

      sorry, I thought I replied already - make sure you have everything completely ready and bathe as much of her as you can in a sitting position. Sounds like she may need medications for shortness of breath. Give her a breathing treatment prior if she is on a nebulizer and of course where her O2 if she uses oxygen. Now you need to go to the website www.thecareplan.net and pick up our five dollar booklet which will review how to manage any major symptom that may arise . Care is treatment! • @TheHospiceCarePlan
      @TheHospiceCarePlan  2 года назад +1

      Use your own intuition! If the patient has not been in bed long and their feet are a mess and need real foot care soak them and take care of the feet separately. If they’ve been in bed for a while the feeder no dirtier than any other part of the body. Change your water between the groin area if there has been soiling and stool. But otherwise if you start from the cleanest and go to the dirtiest you don’t need to change the water very often. Good question. Visit our website that care plan.net for much more information and support. By the booklet it’s only seven dollars. Thanks for your good care!

      Generally you need something that will have the patient increased their peristalsis. Sometimes scheduling a bisacodyl suppository twice a week can allow for complete evacuation. Santa is also a natural laxative that can be taken orally. Remember you have to address constipation from both the top and the bottom. How often do you suggest bathing?

    • @TheHospiceCarePlan
      @TheHospiceCarePlan  3 года назад +3

      In Hospice care we usually suggest 1-2 xs weekly depending on if the person is bedbound. Certainly if incontinent you would be doing peri-care regularly. Just think about yourself and how often you need to bathe depending on activity.
      Thanks for your response

    Can you tell me where I can get peel and stick adult diapers?. I didn't even know they are available.

    • @TheHospiceCarePlan
      @TheHospiceCarePlan  2 года назад +1

      Any of the tabbed briefs similar to a diaper generally have Velcro type of closure tabs. I know you can order them from most big pharmacies and from Amazon. I don’t have a specific place in mind of course not knowing where you live either… Best wishes in your caregiving and please visit our website www.thecareplan.net. By our booklet it has all of the instructions for care as well as the best symptom management. Thanks for your good caregiving

    Do enema video

    • @TheHospiceCarePlan
      @TheHospiceCarePlan  Год назад

      Oh, that would probably be a pretty difficult one to film. It’s an interesting idea though… I will consider putting it on our list and talk to my partner Brenda. Thanks for your comment and best wishes in your caregiving. Please go to our website www.thecareplan.net. Read the page on bowel care. If bowels are managed the way they’re supposed to there should never be a reason for an enema. Take care.
