Would be curious to see if you have any videos on drastic shod to barefoot horses. Like a horse wearing an eggbar with padding to barefoot? I'll look around but I'm wanting my mare to go barefoot but don't want to cripple her for my aesthetic or anything like that.
Its a great conversation to have with your farrier to see if your mare is a candidate to go barefoot! Its completely possible to take one from a complicated shoeing to barefoot, you just need to take into consideration if that horse is going to be used heavily through the cycle, and why it has theraputic shoeing in the first place!
Hey there! Great video. Im new in this and trying to learn from everything and i have a few question.. Isn't this guy with too much leverage in the front and too low heels? Would it be correct to accentuate the rocker in the front to help him a bit with that? Or maybe trim a bit but leave him with a +2 in general and a +1 on the front (rocker)? What's with the heel height?
@@olsenequinecjf thanks for the response, I didn't know much at the time, but I've done a whole lot of search and research and learned so much since then.
you farriers need to learn the cosmetic top dressing is derrogatory to the hoof integrity and instead be guided by those wavy growth lines..there are clues there to create a hoof which will grow into more integrity not need cosmetic make overs which shorten the life of a good foot.
It wasn’t really cosmetic here though. He was smoothing out the nail hole areas so they wouldn’t break up and cause more problems. He didn’t do any real top dressing otherwise here. I agree that many do rasp off too much upper wall surface though. But this wasn’t that.
Knowing what to leave on is a great way of seeing it !! well said

Thank you for the well done and helpful video. Can you please share with me what it was you sprayed on the hoof?
That’s the same question that I have.

It's called "Grooms Hand" and it prevents thrush, etc.

Would it be worthwhile to fill the nail holes with a epoxy to help keep the hoof solid and debris out?

What are those holes in the outside of the hooves?
The nail holes?
Those are nail holes from previous shoeing

Exactly: Cosmetic top-dressing should be done with a brush or rag; not a file.
