From Godot 3 to Godot 4: Top 10 Challenges of Upgrading the 2D Orbits Projects

  • A quick look at the 10 major problems I ran into when upgrading the approximately 2000 lines of code in the 3 different 2D Orbits hobby projects on the channel.
    The upgrade was from Godot 3.4 to version 4.2.

    The upgrade was split into phases to make the process more manageable. I completed each phase for all three projects before moving to the next phase. For reference, the upgrade phases were:
    1) The Initial Backup,
    2) The Automated Project Upgrade,
    3) A First Glance Comparison,
    4) The Initial Run,
    5) and Main Feature Testing and Final Adjustments.
    This video focuses on the last 2 phases where I had to make the fixes and changes.
