THY RESURRECTION, OH CHRIST... JAROFF'S DON COSSACKS

  • Thy Resurrection, O Christ our Saviour, the angels in heaven sing!
Enable us on earth, to glorify Thee with purity of hearth.
Christ is Risen from the dead: trampling down death by death,
and upon those in the tombs bestowing Life!
Don Cossacks directed by S. Jaroff are singing these two Easter songs.
The accompanying bells ringing I find quite disturbing, however these songs are always
interpreted by tradition with the bells ringing during the Easter mass that is the main event in the orthodox liturgy.
Illustrated by pictures of choir members that I borrowed from the remarkable site of Yuri Bernikov that you can find here:

Almighty GOD be praised! To think that such a powerful gem of Old Russia could be saved from the ungodly Bolshevik onslaught! Such transporting and uplifting music which carries the believer to the throne room of God. My dear Mother took me to hear the Cossacks at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington DC when I was seven years old. It was a formative moment of my life. Just tonight I sang Grechaninoff's Lullaby (Lermontov's poem) in Russian to my grandsons. Thank you, Lord, for sparing some beauty and faith, and may the survivors of communism seek You alone for their personal and social redemption.

My mom also took me to( I believe)the very same concert when I was around that same age! The Don Cossacks were amazing--I still remember that concert.
