      @@SakuraAsranArt Yeah, there is a lot of really bad Egyptian pseudo history, but the thing is with Mayan pseudo history is more mainstream. Namely the belief by many that Mayans were all peaceful philosopher kings whom spent all their time staring at the sky. When that mel gibson Mayan movie came out, all the outrage was over the very real fact that the Mayans warred, raided, slaved, worried a lot about their version of end times and even committed a lot of human sacrifice at times. The movie was not historically accurate, but wasnt really meant to be nor was it bad or even preachy considering what a religious nutcase mel is.

    AMAZING VIDEO! When i begged you to make a video covering the classic period like a year or two ago, i had no idea we'ed THREE videos on the crazy and dramatic dynastic historied of the great Maya kingdoms. The historical drama in these insciptions really is amazing to see on diplay like this, the constant betrayal and brutal conquests hint at so much human dram that you could write dozens of novels set in this period. I seriously hope you bring attention to the equally fascinating and detailed dynastic histories of the postclassic K'iche' and other highland kingdoms, because the wealth of post conquest literature is just as fascinating and exciting and dramatic as the classic period.

    Nice.
    Wish there was more on the middle pre classic (the first Maya civilization 🥺) and late pre classic.

    Just started reading a detailed book on the Mayas by Davide Domenici AND spent part of the day binging Ancient Americas at work and home. The pin-point timing of this video couldn't be more wild.

    Something you might have wanted to mention was that Sky Witness, the conqueror of Tikal, was buried at Dzibanche. So even though the Snakes were taking over Calakmul (to get closer to the action, I guess), the rulers still regarded Dzibanche as very important at least at that time, despite a possible later civil war. At the very least, it seems still to have been the dynastic graveyard.

    Awesome video man. Can't wait to see part 2.
    On an unrelated note, do you have any videos about the South Appalachian Mississippian culture? I've taken an interest in the Etowah mounds and Muskogee history and I'd like to learn more but a lot of the stuff I find online tend to focus on the Cahokia mounds.

    • @AncientAmericas
      @AncientAmericas  11 месяцев назад +1

      The closest thing I got is my Cahokia video. I haven't yet gotten to the south east.

      @@AncientAmericas Oh well, I don't want to take up your time then.
      But if I could ask one more question, how did the Classical era Maya control territory? I expected that city-states would project power from the city center and should logically be the center of their territory. But the map at 29:55 makes it seem that Tikal existed at the border of its territory. I mean, the shortest line from Calakmul to Naranjo comes awfully close to Tikal.
