I hope i got to see you reacting to BOYNEXTDOOR (new boygroup 5th gen) their debut album called "WHO!" with 3songs (One and Only , Serenade, and But I Like you) all this 3 have a MV and dance practice. They already make a comeback with their first EP Album "WHY" with the title track "BUT SOMETIMES" together w/ another 2songs (Crying and ABCDLOVE). They also did a cover of; "Pretty U" by Seventeen (live performance and also a dance practice) "Hot Summer" by f(x) (live performance also a dance practice) I hope you can check out them too they are good and on fire!
Not many people know this, but Taemin has a master degree in film and music from one of the top universities in Korea. He revealed back during his Criminal era that he collaborated very closely with the MV director literally brainstorming together to create the perfect visual concept for the video. So I’m pretty sure his creative input continues. This concept is so Taemin, it screams Taemin - so dark, sensual, dramatic and poetic! It couldn’t have been created without him and his sensitivity.
Up! A lot of people don't know about his master's degree and that should speak volumes. Every member of SHINee has a master's degree (not sure if everyone has finished but all have been working through their masters degrees)
Only Taemin can do this. So much grace, elegance, fluidity, but so much intensity and strength. It’s like his dance is a mix of his duality - beauty and strength. I agree, Taemin is art. I can’t even imagine any other artist who can pull this off so perfectly
This concept seems to be so complex, his mind is extraordinary. We can’t just call Taemin an idol, he is an artist who digs deep into human emotions when performing. I’m so proud of the artist he has become.
The dance team for this comeback is completely stacked. Rian, Simeez, Noze, Rozalin, Haeun Kim, and Suzy Hong as backup dancers. Choreographed by Kasper, with contributing choreo by Bada Lee and Shuri.
Taemin has talked about the literature that inspired this concept: Erotism: Death and Sensuality by Georges Bataille and Demian by Hermann Hesse. The fans are also seeing influences from Lord of the Flies. But the director said that his sole inspiration for the MV was Demian. Love that Taemin decided to do things his own way with his own colors. I don't see anyone else doing this concept, or even the way in which he does it. Just stunning! Great reaction, thanks for giving so much love to his work.
never in my entire Shawol life (and that's since 2008) I would have imagined that there would be a connection between Taemin and Hermann Hesse 😳that really shocked me right now..................... me a graduate student of the Hermann Hesse high school in Germany... wow... 😂
Yes. Demian is the story arc, Bataille eroticism is the weapon. Taemin is a hyper specific creator and most of his specific message and ideas were lost in translation. I made a properly researched and diligently edited explainer to rectify that.
@@riahlexington Emil Sinclair meets a boy named Demian who challenges his his sense of self. Coming of age story that explores the philosophy of morality and desire. It's literature so be prepared to not like some characters lol
Thank god the ACE is back.. was about to leave kpop hearing the same concepts over and over again.. but he came and set the standards again. He never dissapoints.. This man is so amazing.. the whole world should experience his genius.. the song is breathtaking, mesmerizing, ART pure.
Taemin is art! The full package he can sing like an ángel , insane dancer and crazy stage presence!! The legend and the king taeminie ❤🤴🏻so proud of him !
Yes, Taemin kills with his vocals, I am so delighted with the instrumental and his voice acting, a masterpiece. His hand moving under his shirt will become a new trend. Taemin is the one who always breaks standards and does what is not expected of him
I m not shawol, but I m so proud that SM and even the whole kpop industry still have an exordinary artist like taemin. I was so shocked and touched when watched the MV. The song, the choreography, the expression...I was not surprised when I got to know the choreographers are Kasper and badalee. BRAVO!! This is the most sophisticated music work of Kpop this year in my opinion.
The interesting thing is, New Jeans' producer is the original producer for SHINee and Taemin;s ACE album. There is even a Taemin's photo on the wall in her house until lasr year.
Taemin is my absolute favorite soloist of all time. And I absolutely agree with you that the initial concept photos had me worried that it was chasing trends away from what makes Taemin, Taemin. I am so very glad we were both dead wrong.
Taemin brought world-class art, you know many idols have only been releasing reggaeton this year. Taemin came to give catedra to the industry. the best solo artist ever and I don't argue with anyone.
Y2k fresh. It's a general concept. Not copied, none of this is copied. Taemin made it his own. Artistic, dramatic, nostalgic. Louder, Jeff, for the people at the back! 🙊 Taemin rarely ever follows trend by itself. It has to resonate with his identity. 5:20 thanks for this react, Jeff.
When Taemin did that ascending belt on Killing Voice?! I can't believe he didn't sing the whole song there OR on Lee Mujin! I really hope Taemin performs a stripped down live vocal Guilty SOON
Amazing reaction! I’ve been watching the MV nonstop. I’m sure someone has already said, but Taemin is heavily involved in everything with his music. He said this one was the most Taemin. It’s so so good!
Having an artist take you on a natural high to experience what you didn't know you needed is Taemin. Just let him take your hand, you don't even need to know where you're headed. All of his journeys are epic.
Ok, so...Taemin talked about how he took inspiration from the book "DEMIAN" written by HERMANN HESSE The Story of Emil Sinclair's Youth. There is a quote that he recites : “The bird fights to get out of the egg. The egg is the world. Whoever wants to be born must first destroy a world. The bird flies towards God. That the name of God is Abraxas.” Who is Abraxas? Abraxas is Demian's answer to the problem of a God who represents an arbitrarily selected half of the world. Abraxas is a deity who serves to unite the entire world, the light and the dark, the godly and the devilish. He does not represent either; rather, he is the affirmation of both. So in the music video Taemin is the egg, the bird and finally Abraxas (represented on the head with feathers). From the storylne in the video it is shown how a group of young people are conditioned to a way of being and acting and finally to commit m*rder. Taemin is in this contradiction of feeling love and hate. He is in a place that conditions him how he should be, how to dress, how to feel. By loving another person he is committing a crime, because that is not what he was conditioned to do. But at the same time that love is part of something bigger, a kind of game snce e wants to break from this conditioned world and love. Taemin is shown as the two entities, the good and the bad, the one who loves and the one who betrays or maybe, the one who hates. Hw wants to do things his way, so there is a certain mischief and chaos in his way of being. Who can condenm him? He finally leads the others in the institution so that everyone reveals themselves, destroying everything that trapped them and becoming the entity, Abraxas. As you said, for Taemin his 'identity' is very important. Much of his work is related to his beliefs, his convictions and way of being and thinking. Thank you for the reaction! You expressed many of the things I also feel about Taemin 💞
Beautiful comment. I'll never forget the emotions I felt while reading Demian and this music video and concept cemented it's place as Taemin's best for me
He delivered what I exactly needed from him. Idk how he manages to put out something new and different but also has the classic sexy sultry taemin sound. This might be one of the best K-pop song/performances I’ve seen ever since jimin’s Lie.
I’m absolutely blown away with this comeback! I knew Taemin will come back strong, but I’ve never imagined something so epic, so dramatic and so insanely artistic! Jeff, thank you so much for pointing out how his vocals immensely improved! It was my first thought when I heard him sing during his fan meeting back in April (straight after he came back from the military) - he sounded so relaxed, so round and even stronger than before, I was blown away with his voice. Taemin said he practiced his vocals a lot during his break and I think we can all agree that it shows! Also thank you for pointing out his uniqueness and how he was able to play with this otherwise popular concept/aesthetic and make it totally his! I have to say the amount of hate thrown at him by certain people was absolutely disgusting and so disrespectful. He didn’t deserve any of it and those people who throw baseless accusations should really think twice before becoming blinded by their hatred and lies! Taemin is a great artist, truly one in a million in this industry and he deserves all the respect and appreciation.
I agree, Taemin is truly one in a million and deserves not just empty platitude but true appreciation. To respect Taemin's work means hearing Taemin as he wants to be heard, and Taemin has a lot to say through Guilty MV, that was buried under mistranslations and internet noise. I made a nicely edited explainer to convey Taemin's truth, watch it and be awed. Don't let negative trolls grind us down. Let's invest our energy on justifying Taemin - with action. Cheers!
Exceptionnel ! Taemin on t’aime! ❤️🥰🇫🇷
I've been waited for your reaction on Taemin, as always :) Thank you, Jeff! Taemin is THE art, for real 💙And yeah, Taemin is always in charge of his art - from the songs to the idea of the whole comeback and MV. This comeback, also, based on the philosophic book that Taemin personally read before ❤🔥
I believe the "Y2K" fashion in the MV was meant to refer back to Taemin's early debut days, as SHINee debuted in 2008. This is clearer in Taemin's MV trailer (SPOILERS AHEAD*****), where even in the first shot, Taemin is with 4 other boys, and I believe they were meant to represent SHINee. Also, in other shots, Taemin and the other actors and actresses were dressed in schoolboy/school girl uniforms, which I believe to be Taemin's commentary on how the Kpop industry treats the Kpop idols. There were even some close-ups on actors/actresses which had a similar hair cut to Taemin's Replay bowl cut. Unfortunately, the MV barely touched on the narrative that was introduced in the MV trailer. I was hoping the MV would develop the story further. Regardless, they are ALL masterpieces, Taemin and his team keep on outdoing themselves, it's insane!
Taemin's vocals has really improved for sure but I also think people don't realize how good of vocalist Taemin is in general unless you listen to his bside or ballads from his solo work and Shinee's discography where he has much more vocally intensive lines! From debut to 2013 he worked really hard on improving and since then just getting better and better.
Taemin said the song and video concept came from a 1957 book he had read that inspired him, 'L 'Erotisme by French philosopher George Bataille. George Bataille expressed his desire instrest to explore complex emotions.
My interpretation of the MV is that he is trapped in his mind because of the trauma of being in an orphanage/some kind of institution when he was young to make a parallel with the lyrics of trapping someone in a toxic relationship, hence the teenager he sees and his younger look for the 1st part of the MV, and this is where the kind of y2k clothing comes into play. I really admire how they managed to integrate the trendy fashion of now into a concept that fits the song and Taemin.
The way you explained how companies use what trending and basically get inspired by one another was just perfect. Thank you for that. And love your break down of the music vid. ❤
Thanks for your reaction to Taemin's art, Jeff 💜 Well, you can blame Minho for working Taemin out to this degree, pushing him as Taemin said. I think it was in Taemin's unboxing where he said he felt sad for the boy he portrays in the mv. I'm looking forward to his explanation of the concept and narrative. Taemin just needs to start making full-out films or short films for his music. He studied film after all. This piece is definitely art, cinematic, so beautiful. His voice has matured since the military, a result of his hard work after his return and all he endured in there. (I thought the t-shirts and shorts reminded me of View.) His voice is haunting and mesmerizing, ah Taemin 💜 I love the long skirt outfit and the tan outfit he uses to dance in the water.
I was like you. I knew he was going to release an epic mini album but at the same time I was not convinced with the visual concept of the album...but after the short videos started to be released day by day on Instagram I felt the dark that has always characterized him. He has never had a bright concept. I should have known!!! Haha. now with the music video, the photos of the album make more sense to me.
Thank you for your commentary; many of your reviews have resonated with me. The entire music video is like an inner monologue and dialogue of both parties in a twisted love affair.
I always love watching your reaction to Taemin that I came back and watch this again... Now I'm eager and can't wait to see your reaction with his new comeback🥰🥰
He did say that abs is a requirement 😂 but so far only Winter (other than the dancers) did it with him like this…you you should check that out cuz they ATEEEEE 🫠
Taemin se lució totalmente, parece un cortometraje, nunca había visto tanto un vídeo ❤ que orgullosa estoy de ser shawol y stanear a puros manes con talento!
I have the same thought as you Jeff. The minute the concept photos posted I couldn't hardly believe Taemin would hopped on to the trending concept like okay he's going with a simple, viby and summery not his artsy stuff. Comes the cb dudeeeee flipped the concept tfo. I mean how can someone uses something existed but never seen? I shouldn't have jumped to my own conclusion Taemin do what Taemin best, to shock you.
Estaba esperando tu reacción. La mejor. Narraste su danza .Nos enseñaste admirarte su voz hermosa Y...quedates como todos los que vismos este arte. Fascinados y sin respiracion . ❤😮
i'm sorry but i did NOT get any "skater boy" vibes from the concept photos AT ALL 😅😅 for me it's very coming of age and innocence meets temptation kind of concept SHINee did that way before NewJeans, especially in View era. SM in general used to do that a lot tbh
I guess it could be about the mental repercussions of being in the military and living your everyday life as a tool for a fight between governments in which you have no voice, spending all your time and energy learning the most efficient ways to kill people you do not use. nor do I want to hurt (could the phrase "loving you is a crime" be about having empathy and compassion for the "opposite side" in the war) and the loss of childhood and innocence it would cause. We see Taemin looking very anxious while holding the gun at target practice and even taking it out on himself through self-harm (because of guilt??) he (or someone else I can't say) then sets the target on fire at 5 :20, possibly as a rebel?? Throughout the MV there is also a theme of everyone being in uniform or boring clothes, so this is juxtaposed with super expressive outfits like Taemin in a skirt which could be a commentary on how the military steals your self-expression and sense of identity, since you have to wear a uniform, shave your head and follow orders. The first scene is quite indicative of both the loss of childhood (children's photos drawn on the wall) and the loss of self, as Taemin is sitting in a room full of colorful clothes while wearing a very simple outfit. This is just my theory, I have no intention of speaking for Taemin, especially when an anti-military concept would be very controversial and would result in a lot of hate for him. That hurt expression is unforgettable. It's a strong shock and stimulus. Taemin was the first K-pop artist I was exposed to (and became obsessed with) and he became my first prejudice (now ult) for exactly this reason. Always with you, Taemin. 🫰😍
Taemin is an amazing artist. And your reactions are always so professional (I love the emotional side of them as well ☺️) P.S. I know it's not nice to ask like this, but I am still waiting for Jeff Avenue to react to Jeff Satur😁😄🤣
I absolutely love how each time Taemin embodies the concept of a song! Initially the song Guilty was wtitten as story of adultery from the point of mistress expressing guilt for loving married man but feeling unable to stop, but of course Taemin did took the song and added his unique colours and layers. Many idols in kpop nowadays are almost crucifixed by fans if caught dating someone, so it might be understandable that an Idol may feel guilty for falling in love and trapped by standards set by industry and fans, which Taemin is rebelling against in a video. Also, as religious cristian he continues to explore man's journey towards sensuality, walking on that thin line of right and wrong, pleasure and sin. I'm sure there are tons of other interpretations to it, one thing is clear: king Taemin is back, and continues serving increadible works of art only he can deliver🎉 it was very dark and boring without him ❤
Makes me thinks a lot about taemin's whole career in the industry, when he started sherlock, view, his whole solo career as well as his time in the army. The MV is so dark I feel like
I feel like this song (while it heavily looks like it's catered towards shawols) is actually about his genuine thoughts and feelings he had when he was in the military. "On that vague border between good and bad" -> Him questioning the what's right or wrong in military system "Make you addicted, you can't tell pain from love" -> Authorities' usual excuse when they punish someone is "this is for your own good" but usually it's not very good for mental health "You got me GUILTY" -> Quite literally talking about the military, him feeling guilty all the time no matter what he does "When you've caught on I'm already all gone" -> When you finally caught up on the system and get used to it, that's the moment when you lose yourself "I can walk like this, talk like this, play like this" -> Him feeling like he has become some kind of tool It could be far fetched, but the mv story concept he chose always left me wonder why he chose that specific topic (seems like he is getting bullied either by other people, or hurting himself inside, or it can be both) Taemin suffered from depression for a long time especially when he was in the military so he had to move to recruit service team, instead of serving in a military This news made into an article, he even talked about how he was so scared when he comes back from the military, how the fans would think of him. And some korean men actually started to send hate to him saying "Why are all the idols making up excuses like depression all the time? yeah, everyone is depressed in the military, get over it" And people who were in the same team with Taemin in the military at that time actually made a comment saying how he is really suffering, he is the kindest person they've ever met and he is trying his best, it's not an excuse

I cannot WAIT for the dance practice of this....
I will quote "okay so that makes sense because Taemin is a God” from now on thanks
Taemin is King of Kpop ❤️
In Taemin, we believe 💎✨
Taemin needs to hear your reaction!!!🥺

@ 2:59 did you mean the abs? Because, YES, he kills me with that every time I watch the MV 😅
Gracias Taemin por existir
LOOOOL This reaction was hilarious!!
Quick fun fact. Minho his Shinee member was his trainer for those abs. He trains him whenever they are at the gym
Taemin se lució totalmente, parece un cortometraje, nunca había visto tanto un vídeo ❤ que orgullosa estoy de ser shawol y stanear a puros manes con talento!
Omg I love your reactions, it's like you freaking out there and I freaking out here
Taemin on dingo killing voice is 😍🥰😘💎🔥.. yes he said he wanted it to b cinematic… MV related to Shinee n himself also experience from military 🫶🏼
Studio Choom coming! King Taemin is back!!!
His vocals has seriously improved during the past 2 years. His vocals SHINE in this comeback.
Estaba esperando tu reacción. La mejor. Narraste su danza .Nos enseñaste admirarte su voz hermosa Y...quedates como todos los que vismos este arte. Fascinados y sin respiracion . ❤😮
Amazing and talented soloist artist 👏I love you so much taemin 🥰❤️💎
i'm sorry but i did NOT get any "skater boy" vibes from the concept photos AT ALL 😅😅 for me it's very coming of age and innocence meets temptation kind of concept
SHINee did that way before NewJeans, especially in View era. SM in general used to do that a lot tbh
I’m obsessed with this song
First of all you're gorgeous. Secondly, I love the way you broke this down.
there is no one like taemin! no one can think like him he is so artistic in simple words he is a legend
Finally, Album of the year mv of the year, every detail in it is worth pointing out. It's an artistic masterpiece
I was eagerly awaiting your reaction!.... Thank you for reacting and the praise❤
4:30 he has recorded a performance video, but don't know if it's for Guilty or a bside!
Taemin💯💯💯
Jeff, you are so funny, I love your commentary, professional and emotional
❤❤❤
I knew you would react to this!! ❤❤❤
been waiting 🎉
What the hell did he do? (to his body?) He went to the gym with Minho. That's what. :D He worked out with that man.
Taemin is an amazing artist.
And your reactions are always so professional (I love the emotional side of them as well ☺️)
I'm sure there are tons of other interpretations to it, one thing is clear: king Taemin is back, and continues serving increadible works of art only he can deliver🎉 it was very dark and boring without him ❤
This is my first time seein teamin. fuck me, he is an art.
yaaaassss TAEMIN
Studio choom coming out soon!!!
Really? I can't wait!
@@LisaMT1218yes! A teaser came out earlier today
Please do watch the MV trailer and try to watch the MV one more time. You'll be mindblown!
Waiting for this❤
IT'S TAEMIN, HIS IDENTITY. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT.
"On that vague border between good and bad" -> Him questioning the what's right or wrong in military system
"Make you addicted, you can't tell pain from love" -> Authorities' usual excuse when they punish someone is "this is for your own good" but usually it's not very good for mental health
"You got me GUILTY" -> Quite literally talking about the military, him feeling guilty all the time no matter what he does
"When you've caught on I'm already all gone" -> When you finally caught up on the system and get used to it, that's the moment when you lose yourself
"I can walk like this, talk like this, play like this" -> Him feeling like he has become some kind of tool
It could be far fetched, but the mv story concept he chose always left me wonder why he chose that specific topic (seems like he is getting bullied either by other people, or hurting himself inside, or it can be both)
Taemin suffered from depression for a long time especially when he was in the military so he had to move to recruit service team, instead of serving in a military
This news made into an article, he even talked about how he was so scared when he comes back from the military, how the fans would think of him.
And some korean men actually started to send hate to him saying "Why are all the idols making up excuses like depression all the time? yeah, everyone is depressed in the military, get over it"
And people who were in the same team with Taemin in the military at that time actually made a comment saying how he is really suffering, he is the kindest person they've ever met and he is trying his best, it's not an excuse
Love you jeff❤
