Where does it say on this video.... "Please feel free to criticise my drining and give me your unsolicited advice"... May I offer some unsolicited advice of my own.... Just enjoy the spectacle of such a lovely car being driven well on the world's most dangerous and challenging track. Thank you for an excellent posting.
I know these cars well and I can hear this one runs really well. It’s really well tuned and I see it handels really good. I really enjoyed this video nice driving :-)!!
he's obviously experienced, just watch his racing line, super clean and his steering work very precise and smooth. as for the speed, it doesn't really matter in the early stages of an endurance race. good steady pace and taking care of the car and tires is much more important.
it was the second lap in a 3h race - 10min after the racestart. the driver is not the owner of this car. He is not a novice, just careful with this old girl.
Exciting! Raced this track many times on Forza and it truly a challenge.. very difficult to memorize (key to beating it).. nice to see it from beemer. thanks
Found one of these last week, prepped, competition . Stickers still on driver side. Nice light rims, bumpers separate LOOSE. Petty blue w/ sunroof (hatch)
The sounds of grinding downshifts made me realize that there's no heel-toe rev match on downshifts. You may be able to get away with that with 2 liters, but any larger that's a spin into the wall. Or worse.
should have pushed the gas a little earlier, an 02 wants that , an 02 is easy to drift....push it....I 've had 11 ones of 02 BMW, it's still my favourite car in the world
Anyone giving these pearls of wisdom actually driven a classic car in a proper race..... Spent the time trouble effort and expence on racing an extremely valuble classic car. Can you not give credit where credit is due..... The guy driving this car did an exceptional job of piloting the car at high speed round the worlds most dangerous and unforgiving track.... He I'm sure had the time of his life and couldn't care less about armchair critics, or even professional racing drivers comments on his performance. I for one thank him for giving me the opportunity to watch a stunning car driven on a stunning circuit.
@@shadeburst Not talking about gearbox synchromesh "health" saving, talking about clutch having to deal with all that rpm surge while braking and reducing gears, while it unbalances car. That's the main purpose of heel and toe...
the driver is obviously a novice, there was cars there it should have kept up with but the drivers inexperience and lack of convidence was very noticable
On the contrary, having driven this circuit I can say he looked very confident, unfazed and had great lines. You're judging other cars based on looks, you don't know what spec they are, they could have 100bhp+ more. The fact this driver took the class win a decade before this video was taken shows how wrong you are about him being a novice.
In an endurance race you do not race other cars. You race the clock. You decide on a target lap time -- in this car on the GP layout it would be around 11 minutes -- driving faster just means faster tire wear and boxing more often.

Where does it say one cannot give his/her opinion about the car's driving, being seated on a chair or not ?!

Thanks for the ride. I loved my little 2002. Basically stock and pulled only107 hp on a dyno. The fun was taking 1st in modified at auto-cross'

With a lap time around 12 minutes it's definitely just taking the old girl for a leisurely spin.
ah the hand positioning! Very nice car and camera setup though :)
Nice footage and car. Inspires me to finish putting my old 2002 race car back together.
Love the airintake sound

5:05 So quick in bends space time. You don't see that everyday.

This is the best part of the video(5:21)
Characteristic sound of the e21!
...this isn't an E21. Bear in mind the later 3 series also used the M10, like the 2002 before it.
now thats a propperly set up incar camera! nice footage :D
danke feur ,mit fahren! Wen du teile braugcht Dan meld dich!
Gruss -02 Rotterdam
Haven't you heard the cliché: "In motorsport, to finish first, first you have to finish."
Anyone know what the engine setup is? Is it the stock carburated m10
Most likely double webbers.........
"Heel & Toe" would make you faster, more balanced while braking hard, and save the clutch.
Not everyone is a Pro.

Heel and toe is important with racing straight-cut gears. The synchro box on a standard road car does all that for you. Relax.

agree
Great Vid, Now im off to play Forza 5!
Does anyone know what's under the hood of that green 02?
Nothing yet, my father ja doing a restauration on it.
But the engine of it was not in the best condition.
hand placements hurt my eyes
Just needed to get some heat into the tyres

Ee gads! Hold the steering wheel properly! :)
Thumbs down for me :| No heel & toe and terrible hand placement on the steering wheel. Nice car and good camera setup.
