As someone who started working with enterprise technology at 11 years old, I would prefer a cloud architect role, however I think with no professional experience a solutions architect role would be a great start to a cloud architect role.
Solutions Architect (SA) : Engage with customers . Identify what their Buss problem is and help them solve thru various AWS services. SA proposes various paths or solutions per say for customer problem at high level. System Design + Architecture design . No low level task like coding involved. So SA does the HLD. Cloud Architect (CA) : Engage with customers. Understand customer problem. Understand the proposed high level architecture by SA and help customer in implementing that at low level.ie by involving in actual coding and detail level designing. CA must understand the internals of the customer's system. So CA does the DLD. Is my understand correct Lucy ? Please correct me if it is not so. I would highly appreciate it. Cheers.:)
Cloud Architects fit under ProServe, so they're paid directly by customers as if they were from a consultancy firm. They direct taylor-made projects, that then ProServe developers would build. Solutions Architects fit under Sales, where we run Immersion Days, PoCs, or brainstorming sessions to understand what the customer goals are on the cloud.
Love what you're doing Lucy and have been watching for a few weeks. Love your smile and zeal, wishing you continued success and stay encouraged. Catch you on the next one.
Choosing between an AWS Cloud Architect and a Solutions Architect depends on your career interests. If you enjoy designing and managing cloud infrastructure, a Cloud Architect role is ideal. If you prefer working closely with clients to design tailored solutions using AWS services, a Solutions Architect role might be a better fit. Consider whether you want to focus on broad cloud strategy or specific client solutions. I have asked the same question from direct certify website support chat and they recommended me Architect certification.
Fantastic topic. Thank you for sharing. Am testing 8/19 for SA. Unfortunately for me as an OPSTECH IT Engineer for Amazon it is difficult to transition into AWS. AWS often overlooks internal transfers.
Cloud Engineer in AWS is different to Cloud Architect - they are more of a support role for the customer, helping them troubleshoot errors and identify recommendations
Awesome video Lucy!! Thank you for educating us on the differences of these two disciplines! I'm just getting into AWS cloud and was unclear of the roles and you have clarified this for me! I now know which direction to go! Thank you very much and happy clouding!!!! cheers!
How can someone from another field like Hospitality or Marketing be an AWS solution architect? What is the best path , and how long it can take more or less ?
I worked as a Marketing manager in my first company a couple years ago before I jumped into Cloud. I worked as an in-house Cloud Engineer in banking before moving to AWS as a Cloud Architect. Depending on your tech background, it may help to do some courses in general computer science and web development, followed by the AWS certs. Find as many opportunities to do some hands-on as well just to familiarise yourself with the various services.
Lucy, as a solutions architect, how often do you have to do public speaking in conferences? I have no problem talking to clients over zoom, but I have terrible stage fright on a stage setting in front of many people. Is public speaking in front of large audiences a requirement when you are a solutions architect?
Google always listens, i was just talking about cloud and it's various roles and your video pops up to recommendation. Thanks. Can you create a video on what kind of certification is required if some one wants to get into these roles and get selected by companies.
Hi Lucy! Thanks for making this informative video. I wanted to understand how Senior Data Architect AWS role is similar or different with the above roles you explained ? Please share if you know, will be very helpful! Thanks! 😊
Data Architects do the exact same thing, they just help design data flows and pipelines for customers. SA’s are very generalized, so they need to have a little knowledge about a lot of topics, whereas a Data Architect is going to focus on data services (for the most part). You still need to understand Networking, Security, etc… to deploy and secure these data flows.
I don't have a programming background, but I have incredible interest with AWS. I intend to get the SA certificate, and my background has been mostly as a Data Analyst. What do you suggest career wise?
I know that you need the Solutions Architect Associate certificate for being a Solutions Architect but what certificate do you need for being a Cloud Architect?
Great Video Lucy. Are there two different certifications for AWS Solution architect and AWS Cloud Architect ? I know that there is one for AWS solution architect (AWS SAA C02). ? Could you please clarify on that. Thanks in advance.
Would it make sense to get a Solutions Architect cert first, before getting a Cloud Architect cert, since SA is more high level (unless we have a deep coding background)?
are there any certifications or qualifications to be a cloud architect? I'm studying for SAA-03, which is a great as I feel I'm getting intermedialy familiar with AWS services and their use cases. But would being a cloud architect, simply be- implementing these solutions?
Hi Lucy, thanks for the wonderful video. I've a question. Is the Cloud architect role different than a cloud application architect role or are they the same? If yes, what are the differences?
Hey Lucy, I want to take AWS Solutions Architect course and I wanted to know if its only a theoretical course or are there practical labs as well. How do you relate solutions architect with Devops
Hi, I used the AWS skillsbuilder to learn the AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification. May I know what to use to learn the AWS solutions architect associate? Is there a skillsbuilder learning resources for solutions architect? Kindly share links to learning resources for the AWS solutions architect associate level. Thank you.
Honestly. This is not for everyone. There are also people that i know that are really good that learning and taking the exam. However, they will have have a hard time working with the technology and customers. If you are considering this then here are my recommendations. 1. Don't even bother with the AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification. It's too simple and not true AWS. It's like an advertisement for AWS. It does not give you you enough nor get you ready to work with AWS. 2. Look for the materials for the AWS solutions architect associate to learn. Look for the one with hands-on labs. There 2 recommendations alone should confirm for you if you really want to work with AWS or not. I think Neal Davis from Udemy is the best. Hope this helps.
@Lucy - Follow up question - in SA, do you need to know detail about the product to be implemented in detail eg. Database, HPC, Analytics or there could be multiple brand products or open source products.. obviously we cant know Everything.. so how do we handle these questions or architecture for customers?
So the goal of AWS is to move on-premise products to AWS. You can move some of those dbase, HPC, etc..directly to AWS as-is with AWS EC2 or similar AWS offerings. Sometimes you would then recommend customer's products to alternative offerings from AWS. AWS has specialists or teams that can also deal with those special products where you can get help with. You are a step ahead if you are familiar with the customer's products.
I think i can break it down for you. CA is to introduce customers to AWS but competent with technical aspect of AWS. You have to speak their business language. SA does the technical part but competent with communicating the process to customers. I hope this helps.;) However, CA is typically is responsible for the over all of a project.
What I can deduce from this video is that it requires high-level technical skills, I want to ask, must you have the technical skills yourself or you can just be a member of a team where others can do the technical stuffs? And in the technical skills aspect, what language or tools can you recommend?
You would think that is requires high level technical skills, but it’s actually more research/customer skill based. Customers ask about A LOT of different services and applications, so you need to be able to understand documentation and help find the solution.
How difficult is it to get a job in the cloud industry. I have been certified as a solution architect associate since April. I'm beginning to get discouraged searching for a role. Should I go for the SAP to boost my chances of landing a job?
how much time should it take to complete AWS solutions architect certification, Ideally speaking. I know everyone has their respective learning pace but I am looking to set a goal bound by time. So what would you consider to be a healthy duration to complete the certification. and I am currently working on completely different technology, so post getting certified by AWS can i start working immediately or do i need to build projects first ?(I will obviously be doing hands on during the exam prep. is that alone sufficient to land a job?)
Thanks Lucy I have a question that I have not any degree in related to tech and i want to get certificatified as a solution architect associate. Is I'll get job only the base of certificate
