I have a very different definition of "cringe" than Lud. For me Cringe is very closely tied to "second hand embarrassment" tbh I didn't even realize "cringe" could be considered a different feeling as Lud describes at the beginning of the video as a "shield" for your own insecurities. I just found it an interesting take.
That's because Lud's definition is absolute nonsense.
His is about being cringey I guess? Has nothing to do with feeling cringe.

Noone calls things cringe anymore for second hand embarrasement, they say it as an insult for something they dont like, and project their insecurities on by acting like it is weird

guys, he's specifically referring to people calling interests and stuff cringe/cringey. it's internet slang. like if i call someone's interest in musicals cringe, i'm probably projecting some insecurity. it's also not quite appropriate to call things like racism or other serious shit cringe, that's just bad behaviour. cringing is a physical act, but when the internet refers to something as cringe, it's to make fun of that thing and is known as "cringe culture." ludwig expressed he didn't like that. that's all

As someone who pretty much only follows cringe on Instagram I’ve come to learn that for a lot of people cringe is really just a lack of self awareness being displayed in an online or social setting
I find it interesting my threshold for cringe, most of the stuff I just found either to be merely a "yikes" (there is a difference between going "oof, yikes that really was an event that happened" and the visceral feeling of a cringe, which is mostly non-verbal, but very distinct.) or just funny.

My buddy woke up on his oil rig bunk to a full oil fire. The whole rig was blazing by the end.
