Great video Chris, the smart quantise function is something I didn't know about until this video. I record a lot of piano tracks so this tool will be invaluable. Thanks! 👍 Chris

All I can say is yay! Thank you as always my dude 🎶. I would often mess with swing and strength, but not the smart quantize. Gonna try that out later tonight 🎹.

I know a lot of people make noise about the cost of Apple hardware (not me mind, I think you get what you pay for, but that's another conversation).
However, regarding their software, they give you SO much. Logic, FCP, Motion being the first ones that spring to mind. You get just so so much with each piece of software. And coupled with not having to buy upgrades, or subscribe... Makes me happy to pay for the hardware.

Do you plan explore the "variable split point"?
I don't know if it's the right expression but this is the thing you have in the "Piano & Upright Bass or in "Vibe & Bass" presets, where the split point beetwen the 2 instruments varies if you play one or the other of the 2 instruments.
I'd like to make myself such multi-instruments, especialy with strings & brass from other libraries.
An other thing would be to learn how to make divisi (note allocation beetwen instruments in a section) as in studio brass, but with 3rd party libraries

The new sampler is amazing. I’m glad they ditched EXS-24 for a modern flow that’s comparable to Ableton.

    MY NOTES:
    Review these 4 more in-depth:
    1.) Alchemy (synth powerhouse)
    2.) Retro synth
    3.) Mellotron
    4.) Sampler
    3 Areas of software instruments:
    1. Key switching & Articulations (command B). Piano roll editor (articulation)
    2. Classic & Smart Quantization. Classic (locks notes to the grid - good for beatmaking). Smart (analyzes notes in relation to grid/each other. Doesn't hard pin to grid to keep nuance). Q-Strength: can adjust quantize level 100% to 0%. Less strength = more like original take.
    3. Split instruments across keyboard: on inspector (key command "I") go to "Key limit" and input Key range for particular software instrument.
Example: Piano bass (C7 - C4) and violins (D4 -D1) can be played at the same time with recording for both tracks "on".

Hey man, I absolutely cannot find out how to get that Keyswitches tab to pop up. My Logic Pro X has all the advanced settings on but is there a way to have keyswitches pop up automatically when you load an instrument?

I have the strangest problem with Logic. It worked yesterday but it doesn't today. What it is doing when using loops is when going through the loops it doesn't play in the key of the project/song. So I test to see if it would play in the original key of the loop and it doesn't play the original key. 80 percent of the time most loops are all in the key of Dmaj. I've tried everything I can think of, even deleted the program and reinstalled a fresh version from the App Store. It did not help the situation. Wondering this a a bug. I should also mention that I tried opening Logic in both Rosetta and from the M1 version. Didn't help. Apple sent me to you, and I watch you all the time. They said you are a pro and may be able to figure this out.

Does anyone else ever have the problem where the library panel often doesn’t reflect the actual instrument you have loaded? I find this particularly happens if you change the instrument. For example if you open alchemy the library will show all of the alchemy presets, but when you change it to the multi-sampler (for example) the library will either still show the alchemy presets, or a random set of presets belonging to something else, or occasionally the right presets for the multi-sampler. It’s quite annoying because then you have to go into the actual instruments presets to get the sound you want - which is fine but is a slower and more fiddly way of doing things. Any fixes?

When you hover over the loaded instrument in the inspector window, you should see a small arrow appear right next to it on the left. If you click it, the library opens with the loaded patch selected.

Why does the instruments library not have any 3rd party plugins in it? If I have notes I've already recorded into my track on midi and if I want to toggle around my instruments to see which instruments sounds the best with the things I had just recorded, my only option is to switch around between the default library. I have to create a whole new software instrument to be able to find a 3rd party plugin like native instruments. I'll then have to copy paste my piano roll into the new track I just created, all because I wanted to test out what my midi notes sounded like on one of my 3rd party plugins instead of my original default one. Once I have Kontakt open for example, what if I want to see what the midi notes sound like on Massive, well then I'd have to make a whole nother software instruments track to copy paste my stuff again. This is way too tedious for me

Honestly, I prefer a Native Instruments. They have more realistic sounds, because they are recorded samples. Logic, on the other hand, is synthetic and is generated by synthesizer.. but anyway, what a very informative video.
