    A little caution required in one area if you are using the real world egyptian pantheon here and vice versa. Like many modern fictional sources pathfinder is very harsh on Set. He was a god of war and the deserts, not madness and murder, and he was a legitimate deity with temples and followers, including some pharoahs. A rival of Horus, but essential in the fight against Apep. Not exactly a reliable chap, but evil is very harsh!

      I think its very likely but the official game lore has provided only vague details around the northern and southern arcadia where these gods would most likely have left their mark. The Caldaru people would likely have worshipped those gods: pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Caldaru_(human_ethnicity)

    In some myths, Sobek actually has a wife, the monstrous-looking Taweret, with the legs of a lioness, the body of a pregnant hippopotamus, and the head of a crocodile. Unlike the similarly mish-mashed lion/hippo/croc-monster Ammut, the eater of souls, Taweret is not a mindless beast, but a patron goddess of pregnancy and childbirth. What's more, she's also the ex-wife of Apep, the sun-eating serpent, which makes for all sort of divine family drama stories.

    It is deeply strange to me that Paizo put all this work into creating their own pantheon, occasionally borrowing a name, but always striving to make the gods their own. Then they just hit Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V on Egyptian mythology and called it a day.

    • @TheMythKeeper

      Its the same strangeness I feel about Anastasia being in Irrisen. There are these little moments in the game where the creators choose to remind you that Pathfinder isn't a fictional Earth, its another fictional planet that exists in the same universe as our Earth.

    "Pneumonia", "psychopomp" and "Ptolemy" are all Greek words and names (note the Ptolemies of Egypt weren't originally from Egypt) so the "p" is not pronounced. Yet, Ptah is not from Greek, but directly from Egyptian, and so the "p" is coincidently pronounced.

    I wonder if Ra would make a good substitute for Lathander, for my champion?

    • @TheMythKeeper
      @TheMythKeeper  Год назад +2

      Ra is a good choice. I'm tempted to say based on what you said on my other video that if you're considering Ossiriani deities that Horus may be an even better choice. Horus is a sky-god as well, although his domain was all the celestial bodies of the heavens and not just the sun. According to most representations, Horus' right eye was meant to represent the sun and his left eye the moon. More importantly for your purposes, you mentioned that the angle you didn't like about Sarenrae was that she is a redeemer and that didn't feel like your character's ethos. One of Horus' main aspects is that of the avenging son. Horus chose to kill his uncle (Set) to avenge the death of his father (Osiris). One has to assume that was a difficult choice, but note that he keeps his Good alignment in spite of that choice, and that he still gets to rule over the Pantheon after his victory over Set. If you're planning to play a character who you anticipate will need to live with difficult choices but whose heart is ultimately in the right place, Horus is a great deity.
      Another outside choice for you is Chohar. Have a quick scan through my Vidrian deep dive or check the wiki on Chohar. He's a southern garundi deity, traditionally was worshipped in Mzali. He's a god of the sun, and he's also got a thing about vengeance and justice. I have some more detail on Chohar and some other Garundi sun deities coming out in my upcoming Southern Mwangi Expanse video as well (that's a few weeks out though).

      @@TheMythKeeper Well, Herald Stardweller (my Champion) isn't strictly against redemption and forgiveness. Really, he just dosn't heavilly focus on it. Protecting the innocent is higher prioity.
      (I just don't want to have to play a passifist.)
      ...
      I think Kurgess is currently the strongest option so far, pun intended.
      ...
      I would discribe Lathander as a "benevolent young-buck sun-God."
      ...
      edit: Horis does sounds like a good option too thoguh. Thanks
      ...
      edit 2:
      As for who's on the table, basicly any good alligned Gods that have enoguh warship in Golarian to tie my character to the world, are potential canidates.

    I wonder what nonbinary people do with all these deities that are like "all my priests are women / men".

    • @TheMythKeeper
      @TheMythKeeper  Год назад +3

      I don't think the clergy is prescribed by the God, but more a function of what the mortal cultures decide. I'm sure Isis would be happy to have male clerics as well, but Osirion is an old culture and set in its ways. Ultimately how non-binary people do with these traditions is left to you and your group to decide.
