FIRST in the 6’s - STICK SHIFT World RECORD!

- Joel Grannas is the FIRST IN THE 6'S H-Pattern Stick Shift!
TX2K organizers and sponsors created a $3,500 bounty to any MKiV IRS Toyota Supra to shatter this record at their event, providing some SERIOUS incentive for many racers. Supra’s with independent rear suspension setups have been battling the basement 7’s for a long time leading into 2020. This is why the bounty was created, and this is what made these records so incredibly nerve-racking for us as media and invested spectators alike! The REAL kicker here is that while most of the cars trying to dip down into the 6’s were the tried and true automatic setups, Joel Grannas is the radical outlier who is chasing the same goal but with an H-pattern 6 speed car. In the same car with similar power, Joel is smashing gears like a maniac and driving the HELL out of this car as he tries to tame the beast with every pass he makes. Joel may be one of the only people we know who has a rolodex man-cards because every single pass he makes with this car earns him a new one. Joel may not have been the first into the 6’s for an IRS car, but he does hold the record for the QUICKEST H-Pattern car in the world, previously held by the RED DEMON of Boostin Performance. What an accomplishment this was, and to a very well earned racer at that!

I’m not big on imports, I love me some Good old American Muscle V8 power, but my hats off to these guys shifting a H pattern Liberty/ T56 trans and going into the 6’s at over 200mph. THATS BAD ASS💯💯 Congratulations 👍
The stick shift class is extremely retarded when it comes to rules. The v8s gotta weigh a lot more, turbo limits, tire size ect. But the red demon was awd ect. Gotta use stock suspension mount points so any independent cars have a disadvantage. Should be just has to a H pattern. Same problem in the pro mid classes the rules have choked the v8s to the point of absolutely no chance to win.
Imagine trying to shift perfectly with 1 hand and steering with 1 hand keeping that car straight at 200+ mph I would shit myself 😩
im here for a good time not a long time
Neither of my cars do 200. Kph or mph. Maybe down a mine shaft? 🤔 but my wife's driving make ME shit my pants on the regular. 😑

The time board has a McFarland Racing sponsor on it too lol. Right lane is pretty much Cleets lane

Yeah same lane, that's pretty much why the Mcfarland sign is on that lanes time board
I suspect some technician at Bradenton is making a ton of money "magically removing" 0.2 sec from the time table for a price.
Wouldn't surprise me in the least. We are all completely in the dark as to how reliable those times are.
There's cheating in every sport - especially if there's money involved.

starting at 9:04 dude hit the 6 second marker, 6.90 ! Stock type H pattern shifter?!?!?!?!!!! is shifter modified in anyway or is the same setup as stock? Really happy to see him accomplish this. some prior runs things were a bit off. must be he resolved the tire issue also which was causing him to turn a little loose and potentially have things go bad and squirly. 4 Gears. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th. I'm learning about turbos and all that, i'm curious what is the fire at the beginning when he's sitting at the line revving high. is this nitrous being purged off what's that pipe coming up and out of the hood that was on fire? .. or is this excessive boost pressure, which if having gone through a catalytic converter has some small amount of NOS naturally as the gas in burned and converted.... and catches fire due to the hotness of the exhaust?going out the wastegate and redirected through the hood somehow? please explain the flames if you know for sure. during his 6.9 second run I noticed his supra reached briefly over 80 lbs of boost pressure and held at over 75 lbs over much of his run at high rpm through 3rd and 4th gear. What's interesting is his 6.9 second run was 194.77 mph radared at the finish line (is that how that works radared at the finish line recorded speed as their top speed?) and prior runs which were 7's werer over 200 mph. he got a really good jump and good traction and control with his 6.9 run. What was Joel Grannas talking about when he said they shot off at 1100 feet, they shot off completely? Also I want to share some things. I've been planning and looking into boosting and using multiple turbos haven't officially done it yet. When I do I'll be using wastegates and also boiler system type safety blow off valves to assure myself that my intake coming out of my very air tight sealed cool air intake system with likely small amount of ethylene glycol is going to limit to 8psi maximum. Also I am unsure if many street guys know this though they know a lot but materalistically if you takke time to study what happens to exaust gases after they are converted through the catalytic converter, you would be very smart to capitalize on this to get more horsepower by having catalystic converters small ones coming off each of your pipes from your headers/or cast exaust manifold. If they are welded in or built in that's gonna be best. I don't think many people know about this or do this but I will be doing it. It will be good for the envrionment much better for the evironment and emissions because anything that gets wastegated is already converted and made much safer for the atmosphere. If you take the time to research what gasses are produced via your catalytic converter you will find that there is a small amount of nitrous oxide that becomes produced! Free NOS! which becomes increasingly pressurized when forced through your turbos and going then into your intercooler as not only high pressure air/exaust gas but already catalytically converted gas that contains small amount of freely produced NOS. you don't otherwise get freely produced nos you just get high pressure gas. and the catalytic converter is usually not converted until l ater on after the downpipe. More horsepower! Free NOS! And NOS which is further higher pressurized, making it even more useful for more power. the trick and the keys I believe is holding onto the right amoun tof boost pressure and dictating that boost pressure. In th is guy's car he's not worried about handling 80 pounds of boost but you would never do that with stock internals and stock piston rods etc. So myself I won't be relying just on my wastegate setting I will be also utilizing boiler system type safety valves that will open up any time 8psi is exceeded and it will guarantee its never exceeded. I'll have them in multiple places in my system. If you don't protect the engine which isn't otherwise equipped to handle 5 to 8 pounds max of boost pressure for most stock engines that could handle it if well built enough such as my nissan VQ v6, you face a real possibility of exceeding 8 pounds of boost and having things go wrong in the motor. if you very smartly manage the boost pressure as I've suggested, and utilize the multiple small catalytic converters built into a header or every exaust pipe coming off the motor and do what I've suggested and plan to do then I believe you can get a lot more performance. I've decided to share this knowledge and my planning which is still in the works. hope its helpful. lets share secrets and talk about how to make our cars fast and keep them safe so they don't fail and so they aren't too dang expensive. another biproduct by the way besides converting to small amounts of NOS after going through a catalytic converter is water. So you will need or want to impliment something to defeat the small amounts of water that can accumulate and be driven through your turbines/turbo and intercooler and your entire setup. you also don't want water vapor going back through your intake. so if you do this, you will for sure also want to have a water collection trap of some kind. I haven't yet decided how I want to do that. I'll have to put some thought into it. I do know a chemical that is high temp and will absorb water and that is silicon dioxide. So I might find a way to include that in my system but will have to ensure it doesn't get driven though anything else and that there's enough of it and that it can be changed out after a long wihle of use. If enough of it is used, I think it might be able to absorb it sufficiently. I haven't decided if I will put a bunch in the bottom of my intercooler where I have a small amount of ethylene glycol like say filled up 1 or 2 or 3 inches high from the bottom of it. if its there, it will probably be fine. but I say share knowledge. I truly believe things shouldn't cost a ton to get huge power either. I found which turbos I'm gonna go with for my setup and they are big and have big turbine wheels and they don't cost that much. I've already done enough research to know that they'll work and produce good power.
The fact that he did this before red demon is insane!!! Props to him, congrats!!!
Knocking on wood never did me no good, so I knock on glass to save me ass

What does the warm up process look like for these crazy high power drag cars? I know in a normal car you warm it up before mashing the throttle, let it idle for a minute or two etc, but do you do the same for a 2000 hp Supra drag car or is it different?
