This speaks volumes about the type of person Peter Capaldi is. Can you imagine most actors passing their Oscar around letting everyone hold it on the flight back home? He was also gracious to shine the spotlight back on Williams and sing his praises.
Ladco77 Worth noting that, while he is an actor, the Oscar he won was for a short film that he wrote and directed, not one he acted in.

I love how Tom knows what Michael is doing now. He mentions that he served in Afghanistan. Most actors wouldn't know what some random co-star from 20 years ago is doing now
After that story, i would not think that Tom consider him as just some random guy.
Maybe they got to talking back in the green room or whatever it's called.
@@NavsangeetSingh He's talking about the actor for young Forrest Gump
@@johnluujl Ohhhhhh! 😂
I mean, he’s not just some random co-star, he’s someone who has had a significant effect on his career and life.
I could probably listen to Peter Capaldi and Tom Hanks tell stories for hours upon hours without getting bored.
oh yeah..and its cute how Graham fits right in. What a great show he has..he allows his guest to chat....unlike David Letterman!.......................
Alpha121198 also, unlike Jimmy Fallon. He's so rude!
Alpha121198 , I could just listen to Peter Capaldi tell stories for hours without getting bored.
Alpha121198 theyre real granpas. -brandon rogers.
Now THAT’S a podcast idea
Holy crap, can someone write a script for Tom Hanks and Peter Capaldi.
M McG YES, OH MY GOD. THEY’D BE FABULOUS.
They definitely look like they would work wonders together on screen just from this interview.
Immediate chemistry and can engage. Impressive
The Doctor meets forest gump
Peter Capaldi can write it himself he's a already won an Oscar for it
Seriously - they should have let Peter write a lot of Doctor Who throughout his run. He's an Oscar-winning writer, for god's sake!
Samuel Irvin and Director. He could have been showrunner as well!
Apparently he was heavily involved in the writing of the last 2 episodes of series 10
I mean he could come back for writing for series 12.
Jak Mockery I’d love for him to come back as show runner one day. Imagine the huge DW fan going from a couple of roles to being THE DOCTOR to literally running the show. Bit sad he’d had to follow after Chibnall and the whole timeless children ordeal, but I think his run would just be awesome.
@@vullord666 if anything, I think that Peter could make sense of it somehow
Mr. Capaldi is just brilliantly humble. He is a huge star, obviously, with legions of fans, and he is just geeking out all the time over other famous people. His expression just seems to say, "Really? For me? ", Yes, Mr. Capaldi, for you. We think you're the bee's knees.
He is always like that, that's what's wholesome about him
@@sakuranovaryan9261 You're so right. His just seems to be such an authentic personality.
So...can we just accept that Capaldi's regular clothing is what The Doctor wears?
That's why there's nobody listed in the Doctor Who credits for Costume Design.
It's just a double breasted suit...
He literally wore several shirts, t shirts and jumpers either based on his own wardrobe or taken straight from it. And several items including his usual navy trousers are Paul Smith, a brand he's been a fan of for at least a decade I'm assuming more
Apparently its a bit of a thing for the actors to at least influence the final costume. I think that Matt brought in the jacket with the patches and the first bowtie, Jodie either contributed to the costume or was basically given a closet to pick the final form out of, David if I remember correctly contributed the sandshoes or something. But yes, Peter's regular suit jacket and 12's suit jacket are exactly the same except 12's is frayed with age.
Capaldi asked for something simple so fans could easily replicate it. Thankfully, production listened to him. There were other occasions where the actor playing The Doctor had one opinion and production just went ahead with whatever they wanted.
Peter Capaldi. Nice guy since 1958.
Literally since his birth
Unless playing Malcolm Tucker
Jesus no one can take a joke in the comments. David's a comedian, he's not taking it personally.
dude he is a pro then
+George Farren It looked like he was tbh.
+Charizarzar just as a matter of interest are you American?
william roy No and being English I do understand the typical type of humour if that's what your getting at, but I could mostly see that David looked pissed off.
+Charizarzar He's old enough to be mature enough not to be offended by something as small as being lightly teased for not having been to the Oscars...
Watching Tom Hanks talk about him changing his voice for Forrest Gump and how it came to be, makes you realize how much work and effort and talent it takes to be an actor at this level.
and how genuinely nice and professional he is. Most Hollywood A-listers wouldn't have "stooped" to changing themselves and their approach rather than insist that the boy change his dialect.
Even the director wanted to boy to change his accent, and they could have gotten him a dialect coach. But Tom suggested to change his own accent instead, because this is a hard thing to do for a kid. I mean, he doesn't seem to see himself as superior or more important at all; he will go to great length to accomodate a kid and change for him rather than insisting on being the center around which all decisions revolve.
Peter Capaldi is so Awesome!!!
I know right
+F.A.B Animations Yeah, he is.
Truss me.
+F.A.B Animations Peter has replaced Tennant as my favorite Doctor in the 10 years the show's been back on.
PURE AWESOMENESS!!!
NO INTERRUPTION WHATSOEVER, Graham, I love you.
There are certain guests that Graham absolutely adores and loves to hear talk. Tom Hanks, Robin Williams, Seth McFarlane, Tom Cruise... to name a few.
No body is better at this then Graham.
The only good thing about bbc.no breaks
P: "He won the hearts of the nation when he swam the Channel for charity."
D: "Done that, done that!"
T: "You swam the Channel for charity?"
D: "Yeah. Have you done that?"
Bish comback.. yeee-ow. As much as Walliams 'acted' annoyed.. his body language gave away he genuinely was. Im not a big fan of him, so for me it was fine that he got humbled in pubic. I dont think he has enough talent to judge other humans talents. Hes only got where he is after riding the talents of other more talented actors, such as Matt Lucas's Little Britain. Hes distinctly average, with unoriginal humour, an offensive gay/camp impersonator, a D-lebrity comedian at best.
@@deeperthanhouse harsh, him and Matt Lucas are equally as funny , he is 100% joking
You watched the video too?
@@deeperthanhouse I don't know his work or anything but it seems you're right. He's kind of annoying as well.
Second rate Frankie Howard.
Winning an Oscar for a short film sounds EXACTLY like something the Doctor would accidentally do or mention while rambling.
Tom Hanks and Peter Capaldi side by side... is this a wonderful dream?
+Light Kikib There was a report on the fan sites that Capaldi actually spoke to Hanks about being on the show, but it's doubtful that'll happen for real. Maybe if they do a movie.
Light Kikib i
Peter is such a cutie pie
Cootie Patootie XD
I love Hanks' change of expression (wow face) after Peter Capaldi points out how Walliams swam the channel, haha.
Goes from a light roasting to genuine admiration.
wow. I think I have a HUGE crush on Peter Capaldi
Can't blame you. The guy is gorgeous. Generous, gentlemanly, geeky fanboy. :)
+lar hjp Me, too! As a more (ahem) mature woman in his age group, I think he's pretty hot. But then, so is my own sweet hubby!
Me too
Peter Capaldi is a Class Act.
Peters in costume he is amazing
+doctorwhovian He was wearing the same thing last year too!
His hair is just slightly more fluffier.
+Nicole Song he also looks younger :\
doctorwhovian hi
Even travelling through time as he wore the same thing before he was the doctor. ;)
Peter, you beautiful man.
I literally had to clutch my phone to my chest and just smile blissfully for a bit because of Peter
Capaldi is such a babe
Peter Capaldi should do a one man show, I could listen to him for hours.
It's called "Heaven Sent".
You're welcome.
Not only was this classic David Walliams comedy (which often makes literal-minded people think he's angry and petty when he's pretending to be angry and petty), but everybody on that couch knows exactly how to play straight man for his bit. It's beautiful, all four of them. Those are performers, folks. And very good at what they do.
Now, is Walliams channeling some genuine envy? Sure. We all have that side, and that shit is GOLD for a performer.
I could listen to Peter Capaldi talk all day and laughed a lot during that show. Also loved that he was so cool and acknowledged what Williams did for charity and doesn't just talk about himself like some actors do. This definitely says a lot about his personality. I truly think, he's just a brilliant human being.
I love how Capaldi gave a beautiful and warm twist at the end.
Not to disparage poor David Williams, but Tom Hanks is one of the nicest and most approachable guys... well, ever, not just in Hollywood. Same goes for Peter. They radiate that genuine warmth and passion without being full of themselves, and that's a fantastic thing.
which just goes to show how funny it is that peter can play someone as vulgar as malcolm tucker, and so convincingly too
Salem Gelidi The thick of it is great and me being Scottish its great hearing *pure* scottish patter
@@n0body550 ahh, i'm sure we could quote that great show until the sun goes down

Peter Capaldi saying 'Orgasmic' is my life
Oh, shame on those reporters in 1995--who's laughing now?
Rather like the Ascendant Fanboy moment that was Peter's letters to the Who Fan Club being revealed..
"Who" indeed. ;)
@@ScarySadFlan The letters W, H and O together make a word. This word is in a language. The English language. It's just a word and not everyone XD------->!"WHO"!!"WHO"!

I've watched this about 6-7 times now. It's still hilarious.
Imagine winning an Oscar, and you have to struggle to buy a plane ticket to go 😆
I think that may actually happen to a lot of the international nominees... they come from smaller markets where films don't make huge amounts of money.
I have to wonder if Craig Ferguson, famously and fabulously an old friend of Peter's, didn't use that experience as an inspiration for his film The Big Tease (1999), about a Scottish hairdresser who gets invited to The Big Competition and has to struggle to get the money together and go. I mean, it's not the MAIN conflict of the film, but it's definitely A conflict, and Craig would definitely have known what his old bandmate and friend had gone through to get to Hollywood.
I loved the bit at the end where Peter and Tom said how wonderful the Oscars were and David playing into it. Yes, David was in on the joke. He's a comedian and knew how to maximize the laughs for it.
Peter Capaldi is what every actor should aspire to be, what a class gentleman, saving David from the awkwardness
The casual way Hanks drops in that he is clearly still aware of how that young man is doing even now without any need for fanfare or applause
Love Hanks
"Have you ever won anything?" Damn, Tom Hanks is fucking savage! LOL
LOVE YOU PETER CAPALDI!!!!!
and Graham Norton
Tom Hanks was like, "have you ever won anything?"
LMAO
I will always love Peter Capaldi
I’ve probably said this before. Tom Hanks is one of the (seems like) nicest and genuine guys in Hollywood. Look at his memory of his Forrest Gump inspiration. But the absolute total class of Peter Capaldi stepping in to say “he won the hearts of the nation...” is just, well... serious class and quality. And Tom Hanks is not a bad guy and David Williams can be “tricky”. Bit Capaldi, total class
"No one wanted to talk to me."
Awwww poor Peter
I’m very happy “Oscar Winner Peter Capaldi” is a reality
Peter is lovely. ❤
Hearing him win an Oscar is the best thing ever. He deserves it. He a amazing actor.
That Forrest Gump story is fascinating because clearly the speech mannerism wasn't in the script but it was a big part of the character of the final film. Props to Hanks for spotting a great hook.
It was getting a little awkward until Capaldi saved the day and mentioned Walliams swimming the channel.
+The8thDOCTOR How awesome was that!? Peter is an amazing person.
Yes that was amazing! hahaha
+The8thDOCTOR Hurray the Doctor, saves the day!
+The8thDOCTOR He truly has a heart of gold. He knows when to have fun and when to acknowledge others too.
+The8thDOCTOR Awkward??! He earns a million times more than you and me. Fuck his sensitive feelings.
Capaldi is so awesome ❤
Peter Capaldi is amazing, love you Peter!
worth watching if for no other reason than to hear peter capaldi say the word 'orgasmic'. #rawr
;)
Hello nurse!
are you a 13 year old scene girl? #rawr.
I was scrolling down the comments to make sure it was mentioned, it made my day.
🙌
My heart melted when he did the Forrest Gump voice.
He wasn't annoyed - you can see his impish look at Tom Hanks at 5:46 . They're all in on the gag.
I feel like he was using the humour to cover up the fact he was actually annoyed. There are other shots where he genuinely looks pissed. I just think the guy is actually that far up his own arse and needs to lighten up.
@@AVerySillySausage I can guarantee you he's not. It's his kind of comedy. As camp humor, he plays bitchy most of the times for laughs and he doesn't mind getting it back. Tom and Peter kept going because despite David making faces, they knew he's just playing along.
Funny how Peter Capaldi is never referred to as 'Oscar winning actor'. It may been for making a short film but still. He is the only Doctor Who actor to win an Oscar.
I love when the couch has great chemistry and Graham just lets them go... this bit was hilarious, buy all involved.
It's lovely how they immediately pick up on the bit lol
Unlike the morons in this comment section who think this was awkward.
I'm surprised David didn't swoon at Peter's comment at the end.
Oh my God! Look at Tom Hanks ❤️😱
It was for a movie role, "Sully"
I particularly love the way Graham lets his guests talk. No butting in and bringing the spotlight back on him; just a bunch of people chatting on a red sofa. Super stuff.
Peter Capaldi - you really impress me! Good actor, punk rocker and an Academy Award for Short Film. A bit of a Renaissance Man. Probably can even make good ice cream.
Hahaha Tom Hanks seems to really like David. I like how he teases him and David just playing along. 😂😂😂
Tom Hanks and Peter Capaldi in the same room !!! Regeneration is like a box of chocolates, you never know what face you're gonna get !!!
Capaldi is such a class act. Proper good lad
Love how Peter leaps to Davids rescue at the end. Get your trunks on and swim Forrest swim!
I had no idea that Peter won an Oscar! Wow he clearly had talent in film making, has he made others?
He's made a few low budget british films and directed comedy tv shows like Jo Brand's Getting On. He also made a spoof documentary 'Cricklewood Greats' about the british film industry which was brilliant.
He wrote and starred in the road movie Soft Top, Hard Shoulder which I haven't seen for years - he travels home to Glasgow from London in an old Triumph Herald convertible from what I remember
Peter Capaldi is a gracious man. Classy touch at the end.
My favourite part is Tom Hanks disbelief at realising David swam the channel. Such respect for that achievement.
Peter Capaldi is such a gentleman
I never knew I needed Tom Hanks and Peter Capaldi roasting the shit out of David Walliams for not having an Oscar and yet, here I am.
An American, a British, a Scottish and an Irish person on the same talk show. Maybe not that interesting, but just noticed it:)
Not to be too picky, but a Scot is also British. :-)
*an English, Irish, Scottish & American. Britian = England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, not just England.

Love that peter throws shade but still gives david a compliment
I absolutely consider swimming the English Channel more of a valued accomplishment then winning an Oscar. Good on David Williams for achieving that phenomenal goal!
My son and I, met Peter Capaldi. What a gent.
Hats off to Mr Capaldi in this clip. And Tom looks totally stunned when it is revealed David swam the Channel.
Capaldi is just pure class as is hanks, would love to see them work together. Imagine a wholesome conversation or an insane argument both actors could wonders in a scene like those

Yes but not for acting lol
Tom Hanks should be on Doctor Who someday!
+The 4th Doctor Hanks is a huge Star Trek fan, we're trying to get him into one of the movies! He'll have to take lower pay than he's used to though, lol
He was offered the role for the 1996 TV movie but declined. As a fan if the Classic Series, I think he declined because he thought British audiences would be outraged by an American playing the role.
Considering one of the Monty Python members, as well as one of the James Bond actors are American, are you sure they'd care? ;)
yes!!
+The 4th Doctor Hanks hates doctor who ,. He himself implied this during an interview with craig ferguson
I appreciate how middle class the persona that Peter is projecting is. He’s not a talk show person, and that’s pretty human.
Just like give me a video of Peter Capaldi and Tom Hanks talking. To each other, to someone else, doesn't matter just I like both their voices and expressions and reactions and all that.
Tom is one of my favorite American actors and Peter is one of my favorite Scottish actors. They always make me want to watch whatever show or movie they're in.
i wish peter capaldi gets everything he ever wants in his life
3:09 I love the way Peter pronounces "film stars". It sounds like "phone stars"
Capaldi is exactly like Billy connelly. He always steals the show
One of many priceless moments on the best talk show ever!
It's nice that Peter is dressed like the Doctor in his day to day.
"-Have you ever won anything?!"

Various acting and comedy awards.
He did very well to sit there and play along with the joke!
Spaniel And that’s exactly why he won those awards
What an enjoyable interview! Great fun.
I never thought I'd see Forrest Gump and The Twelfth Doctor in the same room.
God I love Capaldi!
Tom Hanks is probably the greatest human being ever.
fun fact: Peter Capaldi and Craig Ferguson were in a band together
Tom Hanks being genuinely interested in Peter’s story is so disgustingly wholesome.
That's the best back and forth on any late night show
Glasgow has produced so many spectacular artists. Peter Capaldi, Craig Ferguson, Billy Connelly and of course The Blue Nile and Paul Buchanan. I would have LOVED to live there in the 1980s. Actually I wish I lived there now.
I never even knew Capaldi won an Oscar, because usually on talk shows they're introduced as "Welcome Oscar winner (enter name here)"
''All the poor people waving an Oscar''.
classy end from Capaldi there
