Big fan of your dad's steel playing. He also performed some of these at his show in Branson. Nothing but respect and admiration for Tom Brumley. And Steve is such a fine player. Love his acoustic guitar tone. Thanks Todd.
Tom told me shortly after this recording, on his CD, that his experience with Steve Wariner; was one of the best ever. He bragged on Steve over and over on how much he enjoyed it. And the CD "In Time", is one of the greatest Steel Guitar recordings there has ever been. Not to mention that Tom Brumley is one of THE greatest SG players ever. Of course he was one of the nicest and kindness gentleman I ever met. I shall cherish his friendship 'til my death. May Jesus rest Tom's precious soul.
I would like to show how much a gentleman that Tom was... In the 90's I had the honor to visit Tom in his home in Brandon, MO. Tom had bought a SG that he had wanted for a very long time. It was a Rickenbacher Bakelite 7 string steel Guitar. Now 7 stringers were very rare. Because all the others were 6 stringer's. And Tom used that SG on 2 songs; on his CD "In Time". But sometimes, they would lose that incredible sound. And it happened to Tom. So Tom called an expert on Rickenbacker's (sad I have forgotten his name; yet a dear friend) from Texas. And asked him to come to Brandon; "AND get this sound right!". LOL Now the expert and I were on the way to St. Louis; and he took me to Tom's house. Talk about and honor! And the expert got it fixed. And all 3 of us had just got Rickenbacker 7 stringers. So the expert fixed it for Tom. And before we left I asked Tom. if I could play his Pedal Steel Guitar. And as always, "Get on it with that smile; to die for. So I had practiced many decades; trying to master Tom's rendition break on "Together Again"; which became the greatest SG "lick" ever. That drove 30,000 SG players crazy; wondering HOW Tom did that. (Tom had told me how right after the song was recorded). Which was a treasure to me! So I started to play it. And Tom said: (as I stand before Jesus); "Carl. YOU play that better than I did!". Now I was NO way close to mastering his awesome lick; and I'm sure Tom knew that. But nevertheless He said it over. Believe it or not. Now...that is a Gentleman! if there ever one! I shall cherish that 'til I draw my last breath. And I shall never forget how I felt; after Tom said that. May Jesus again rest His precious Soul. One of my dearest friends; that I will ever have. And Finally; shortly after that; I produced a SG Convention show in Atlanta '97. And I asked Tom to come and play 2; 1 hour "Sets". And when he said, "I would be honored to come to your show Carl"; I almost lost it. And the fans went crazy when Tom played. And they gave him several encores! Streaming loudly, no less. End of Story. For there will never be another Tom Brumley! Because He was the driving force for Buck Owens incredible "career". And I am sure the late Buck; would say, AMEN!
Something about the way Tom played always touched me deeply. The friendship and mutual respect he and Steve had for each other is so evident watching this.
Todd your Dad was a great person and you i would say are that way too love his waltz he is missed very much God Bless you and yours for keeping his memory alive hats off to you
Hi Todd. What a special song and brilliant album. Tom will forever be an inspiration to me. Always been a huge fan of Steve as well. Thank you for posting!
Dear Todd, thanks for posting this. Great CD, beautiful pedal steel playing. Tom was a great player, always one of my favorites. Todd, best regards from the Netherlands
This is amazing. Thanks for sharing some more of your Dad's wonderful talent. One day I hope to own one of the ZB Customs he built. No better sounding steel in my opinion. No better sounding player, either. Much appreciated.
Thank you so much for posting this. When I was growing up there were two musicians my dad would always point out as inspirations. Don and your dad. Absolutely wonderful.
Fabulous Todd, Great to see your dad at this stage in his career so much on here is the old stuff! I just had your Mom comment on a video I shot in Ireland of the steel festival so it prompted me to look around again, this was great to see, he was my early inspiration even bought a ZB in the early seventies because of him! Regards from Scotland!
Was Steve playing lead or was that Tom? And did say he thought they put a nick in his guitar?! I love Steve Wariner, and now I get to check out Todd Brumley!!!

Very enjoyable, Todd. I am from England , and don't get to hear much Country, but your Dad could make that steel guitar sing!!!
