- Redd Volkaert & Jim Murphy Live at the Austin Airport. Video by the late great Austin Music Network. I do not own or claim to own any of this content. Enjoy the show! RIP AMN.
Thanks for sharing! Murph (the steel player) was my step father. It's nice to have his memories and talent live on.
Back in the WAAAAAAAAAAY old days, I picked occasionally with Big Jim back in Jefferson City, MO before he went to Nashville and got hooked up with Johnny Paycheck and all the rest. Great guy......lot's of great memories. He is missed by everyone whom he touched with his personality and music.
I'm saddened to hear through these comments that Big Jim Murphy has left us . I got the album he did with Vasser Clements when I first was starting out on the steel back in the mid '70's . His C6th playing absolutely set my head on fire . These clips of him with Redd Volkaert are true treasures . A genuine artist .
when I first started learning the steel guitar I was not interested in the C6 neck but after I discovered Big Jim I became obsessed, he's the master, I love how he jumps from neck to neck mid song, and how he play's rhythm guitar between solo's, the best of the best,
Great to see my ole Jefferson City, Missouri buddy, Jim Murphy in action. Sure miss him. Great job Red and all the boys in the band!
Hi Stringbender. I'm an old J.C. guy too and played a few times with Big Jim prior to him heading out on the road. Are you still a J.C. guy?
Fantastic Playing by these guys . Thanks
