- It's our busiest time of year, and in this studio vlog we have one of my biggest challenges yet.
I set myself these goals and felt like it was finally time to sit down and attempt to design my first official calender, we only have two problems to overcome & we also get our greeting cards & package some orders!

I actually like the happy new year writing! It's cute and cheerful. I wasn't sure about it when it had all dark lineart, but with the colored lineart is just very very cute!
Loving the look of the calendar .. 😍 so cute .. Fireworks work well for Novemeber being Guy Fawkes, Thanksgiving, Diwali, and Guru Nanak probably more too loads of Global celebrations happen in November 😍😍 I'd also say 100% keep your own lettering it's yours it's gawjuss 🙌🙌
The new moon and star design would look so cute as an acrylic charm with a clear background, with glitter and the two characters nestled together :)

Adjusting your schedule to design earlier than usual may help reduce the stress. Ordering the product and updating your shop earlier can give you more lead time with production. And customers can order, use their purchases (gifts or crafting). It can give them more time to re-order, and may be less of a mad rush with packing/shipping. Is it possible to "pre-wrap" some items? Maybe not enough space to do this with all product but maybe 12 of each for most can cut down on packing time.
yes 10000% I need to work on this, I managed to get ontop of it this year, but the calender is a last min challenge, although it will probably be alte i just wanted to do it anyway, so I stopped procrastinating and waiting ANOTHER year lol

The calendar is turning out so so cute! But maybe more rounded letters would look more cute since all of your creations are squishy and chonky? Your usually font is nice, too!

I love the hand lettering but you could choose a font and trace over it then draw it once more while referencing your trace! so that you get the practice of drawing more fonts !

I'm so excited about your calendar! Maybe you can do a bonfire night illustration in a future calendar--especially if you write a little caption about that celebration, I don't think any of your international customers would mind!
I like the hand-lettering because it feels personal to you. If you don't feel confident in it, you can pick a font you really like and compare it with your lettering--many you'll see some things you can change about your handwritten words so you'll like it even more

I am not sufre about the pre-orders cause I haven't done them before Im worried incase something goes wrong so I think I will just release them!

I thought your concern with the themes of the months in relation to international shipments was very nice.
Just a detail regarding the seasons, as there is a difference in the seasons for countries that are above or below the equator.
For example, now you are in winter, while here in Latin America it is summer now.

All the illustrations are very cute! I think the hand lettering is fine, the one thing I'd say is, b/c your style is so round and soft, maybe the letters could also benefit from some roundness. It might also be a preference thing on my side as well, but either way I think your calendar is coming along lovely and I can't wait to see the final result! ^_^

This video really helped me I been stressing and I haven't even started my business my biggest fear is nobody buying from me. I seen so many businesses and they are so successful. But I have to at least try I can't give up.

I like the hand lettering on the New Year’s illustration, but I kind of liked it better when it had the dark blue outline. Either way, it is a lovely illustration and I definitely plan to get this calendar when it comes out!

I think keep the hand lettering because it's a much more personal touch and has more of a stylized personality that goes with your brand.

Because you asked for an honest opinion, I’d say maybe try you’re usual merch font and see how it works. The hand lettering isn’t bad, but I think the line weights are a tad inconsistent which is why you maybe naturally asked our opinions as it feels a liiiittle but off. My sneaky trick is to trace over existing fonts to keep the clean look but a hand drawn texture.
Your work is so wonderful and Im a huge fan, but I know you push for excellence xx bravo for the hard work this year!

For the calendar you could start it in February or March of 2023 then have it go through to January or February 2024 so you don’t have to rush and have more time to get international orders and add any accessories like calendar stickers without all the extra pressure 😁

I would like to make a suggestion, as 12th is the last day for posting (re postal strike) you might not get many calendars out, so I was wondering if you would consider an academic year calendar. You’ll already have most of the work done and by the time you’ve finished you’ll have half of 2024 calendar done 😳

I am also terrible at hand lettering and what I usually do is find a font I like and kinda trace over it and fix it how I want so I have like a base to go off of otherwise my letters turn out slanted or different sizes 😅

I'd prefer the January illustration without text, mostly because I'd absolutely want to use the pages as art prints once the month is over. It's difficult for me to justify picking up paper calendars because they seem like such a waste at the end of the year, but your cute drawings give me a reason to reuse them. It is less appealing for me to keep art that says 'happy new year' because i'd rather have more art that I can display year-round.

I have 2 questions and maybe the 1st one could be answered by anyone from the UK
1. Why do you travel so much when you're busy? Is it because you're doing business in those countries or is it a regular thing for people to holiday so much.
Or is it that because I live in Australia and leaving the country involves a lot of money and passport, vaccinations, etc I don't realise how easy and close it is to trip off to another country. I was thinking that maybe a long weekend to Aussies means going camping or to the beach a few hour's drive away but to people in the UK a long weekend can mean a quick trip to another country to experience the culture food etc
2. Branding is something I have trouble with because I wanted a symbol to represent my brand as well as the name but just have never been able to settle for one. But I notice you simply use Katnipp and then I see it on a flower, not sure if you've used other shapes around your name but is the reason you choose the name and no real symbol so that it allows you the design freedom to put the lettering on anything? But then as well as not being able to go with a symbol, I also find so many fonts out there that I always find myself wanting to change that as well. I managed to get one stamp made (which is for leatherwork) but I'm having trouble sticking to a font and my business cards over the years have been so different. Anyway, it would be great to get your thoughts on the process of working on branding and maybe what helps you stick to it since your mind would be forever designing and re-designing. I always listen intently when you talk about where you're placing your branding on all your products and one thing I have taken on board is the use of side stickers to close a box up like your cup boxes, I think that is super cute.
Also, I'm excited about your calendar design and venturing into making your own planner, I can see that will be something that I will have fun with, all the best in your Challenges
We travel so much at the moment because we want to have children, but there are some things we wanted to do before, so we are squeezing it all in, usually we wouldnt be travelling as often, its also a huge source of inspiration and we get flights for very cheap and often less than 3 hours. We dont need vaccinations to most countries in europe anymore so travel is alot easier, you basically hop on a plane
For my branding it changes of time with styles and trends but its mainly my logo thats consistent, I have changed my fonts but I havent changed my core 'Katnipp' logo, I do have a degree in graphic design, and worked on a few clients branding projects, if you feel like this might be your weak spot, it might be great reaching out to someone who specialises in branding and graphic design to help you out! xxxx

I use the Ipad mini 2021 version and the ipad pro 12.9 inch from 2017 🌸 hope this helps!
