LOVE my I4 Edrive 40. Got it November 22nd 2022. Surpassed all expectations I have of it. Test drove it last May 2022. Nothing comes close to the feel of it I have ever driven. It just drives better than anything else. You change the modes from ECO to Comfort to Sport and you feel it. Nothing can really beat me off the line except for better electrics. You get the feel of almost downshifting when you use the 'B mode' for extensive regenerative braking. I have only driven this EV so I am pretty biased for it as I only have driven ICE's before this. But I had a manual Mazda 3 before this and it's just hard to describe for people how fast it is. I mean yeah you can say it's not as fast as this or that. But it's fast at speed too. You can go from 50 MPH to 100 MPH pretty fast to the point it's almost scary. For the price and the way it looks, it's amazing.
This is a fantastic review and very well delivered bravo to that journalist. He will go far hopefully! Much easier to listen to than a lot of car reviews and a nice ending!
EVs were never going to be a passing trend. It required lots of things to be in place for it to occur and Tesla was simply the first to put those pieces together... because they *could* as a ground-up new business. It's like the iPhone. Smartphones were inevitable but Apple was the first to be able to pull it off. There is nothing particularly impressive about Tesla to be honest, and a lot of their grandstanding and hubris is actually off-putting. Don't get me started on the misnomer that is 'autopilot'.
In marketing and business, they call that the Pioneer Advantage. Ford, Uber, etc. Does it mean they remain on top forever? Absolutely not just like Ford didn't remain on top yet invented the Model T
Honestly, all I want is a battery pack for my X4. Just the right size, comfortable to get in/out of, AWD,…just get me a 80-90kW batter pack, a frunk, and we’ll call it a day. Then again…for that, I should probably get a Model Y. Then again, the Y is missing a cockpit, which is simply unacceptable.
Excellent review thank you very much. In fact I would say this is the best BMW E4 review I have seen. I have got my BMW i4 msport pro/tech pack in sapphire Black coming next month. I’m not gonna lie. I do have a little bit of anxiety around changing from a combustible engine to electric, but more excited to be fair.

What am I missing out on if I don’t spend the $3k on adaptive suspension? If my priority is mainly comfort over anything else, is the ride still going to be just as smooth?
I asked the same thing. I'm not a rapid competitive driver, pretty average I suppose (and a bit old), and the salesman admitted that when he drove the car he couldn't tell the difference between the adaptive and ordinary suspension, so I spent my money on other options instead.
Cold fact is, the car is a 2+2 that just happens to have rear doors and an extra seat belt in the center. Seating 5 is not practical at all unless they're children or adults you don't particularly like.

I think it’s 10-80% in 31 min. (?) This car looks and drives very very good however… This car is so small is shocking. If you sat in any recent electric car you will feel claustrophobic and squeezed in i40. It’s a 2 ppl car in reality. Space at the front is not great but the back is shockingly bad for a car advertised for 4/5 ppl family. I’m 5.10 or 182 cm and I was rubbing my head against the ceiling with my knees positioned very high. I also had to twist my 10.5 feet sideways getting in an out of the back. In most trims the car looks very dark hence even smaller inside. 3 series has more room than this car I think. No one really mentions this.
I think in time, we’ll find out that plug ins were worse for the environment, and more costly to customers, than the traditional cars motivated by fuel.
@@007klaxon a majority of electric comes from fossil fuels. The idea that there is no emissions because there’s no tailpipe is ridiculous. As far as costs go, we already know that they’re way more costly.
@@golfbuddy1969 They are using clean energy to calculate CO2 emissions for EVs. Meaning once there's a real amount of EVs on the road they will only be charged with renewable energy, and traditional households will use the coal energy because that's logical and the CO2 tax is totally not a scam but the governments care about the environment. Don't you know building several billion new luxury cars is the solution to global warming? The 100 companies that are responsible for 71% of global CO2 emissions should continue doing nothing for the environment and don't have to pay taxes because they have employed thousands of lobbyists, just imagine how many jobs would be lost if they had to pay taxes or had to do something for the environment. I would buy this if the huge grill didnt look so disgusting. Everyone knows BMW's are generally unreliable in the electrics so I imagine they engineered things to break in order to keep BMW service busy. The range is terrible compared to Hyundai amd KIA. BMW is way behind and this overpriced hunk of junk proves it. Big fail BMW, I'll take Hyundai anyday.
I agree the front grill could have been better designed - and lets an otherwise well designed body down. But disagree with your other comments based on owning a BMW 540 for many years. Reliability had been 9/10 with alternator lasting 24 years and zero electrical faults. Hyundai and Kia are for the masses - BMW for discerning drivers who can tell the difference!
I have two BMWs and I've had two since 2017. I have never had an issue with them, just the basic maintenance. They are phenomenal engieneering and drive.
You sit in the back seat of this new i4, and look down: there's that big HUMP in the middle of the footwell! So ONLY TWO people can sit in the back. Oh, and one other thing: lift up the hood and you'll see it packed to the brim with STUFF. What stuff, only God knows. Tesla even has room for a fronk (front trunk) and this BMW looks like it has a huge stash of-you know, stuff. I am quite convinced that they just moved out the gasoline engine parts of a previous model, stuffed in a battery and electric motor, and voila, you have a new EV. Sheesh. And rear wheel drive? Come ON! Finally, the "Cockroach-head" grille isn't as bad as in the iX: one look at that thing in the rear view mirror and drivers are quickly going to get out of the lane you're on!!!😂
