  • Russia has strongly criticised the U.S. decision to deploy long-range missiles in Germany by 2026, labeling it a serious threat. Moscow vowed to counter this move, viewing NATO's actions as escalatory. According to Kremlin spokesperson, "We are moving steadily towards a new Cold War era, with direct confrontation returning." The deployment announcement follows U.S.-Germany talks of "episodic deployments" of these missiles, aimed at bolstering NATO defenses in Europe.

The INF treaty was a good treaty that eliminated an entire range of dangerous ground launched weapons including both ballistic and cruise missiles, but now that Russia has scramjet propulsion systems working and in service this is really going to benefit Russia because instead of wasting ICBMs and SLBMs pointed at Europe and Asia, they can now resume production of intermediate range ballistic and cruise missiles to hit targets in those regions. The deployment of US missiles in Europe that can hit Russia equate to strategic missiles so I would expect Russia will not be interested in any new START agreements that don't take US missiles in Europe and Asia into account as also being US strategic weapons. Of course sea launched and air launched weapons in that range group were not banned so it really only effected the Russians with their SS-20 systems which would have been devastating. Their new replacement systems will be much smaller and lighter and orders of magnitude more effective while being much cheaper too I suspect. The west is busy shooting itself in the foot again.

As Ritter said, it should be all about de-escalation, not escalation. Nato is a joke, they are no more a defensive organisation than a wasp attacking a cow! Russia are not going onto eastern Europe, as they are nowhere near as strong as their Red Army predecessor were. Nato knows this, so does Russia, but you see, to sell more weapons, to make more money for the industrial complex, nato needs an excuse to survive, to scarmonger, unlike Russia / USSR and the Warsaw Pact that pulled out of eastern Europe, thry kept to their promise, meanwhile nato stayed in Europe and Germany when it was completely wrong and unnecessary in doing so, when Russia was of no threat and weak on all fronts back in the 1990s.
