  • Tobin and Christen react to the USWNT being eliminated from the World Cup in the Round of 16. In this emotional episode, they break down how they are feeling, what the players might be feeling, and share their key takeaways from the tournament. Then, Tobin talks with Sweden’s team captain, Kosovare Asllani, fresh off her defeat of the USWNT to learn about Sweden’s gameplan going into the match, her thoughts on the USWNT’s global impact, and her upcoming quarterfinal match with Japan. Finally, they are joined by legendary USWNT and England National Team performance coach and sports scientist, Dawn Scott. They discuss Dawn’s impact and research results on women’s health in soccer - including how menstruation affects a player’s performance, the addition of technology to track a player’s efficiency, the importance of treating every player as an individual, why women “aren’t just little men” and so much more. And, as always, community questions, a Japan / Sweden prediction and Tobin’s Top Things!

that particular game was probably the best under the entire Vlatko tenure. What has to be said is that USWNT really needs a towering striker in those knockout moments when they ran out of creative ideas. A player of Abby Wambach height could have found a way.
also giving up on a huge set pieces advantage USWNT had before wasn't a good idea. back in 2019 only 2 PKs got USWNT over the line in the Rof16 in a pretty poor game v Spain. If Rose didn't make the most of that contact with a Spanish defender, then USWNT could have been out in the Rof16 even back then.

I’M so glad you interviewed Kosovare Asllani. She is one of my most favorite players. And I love the Swedish team. The world is full of critics, as absolutely anyone can be a critic. No skin in the game, just lots of negative opinions. Asllani reminds us of Title IX which broke in the 70s as I recall. We have been leading the world in women’s sports since then. We in the US are so sucked into the glorious stories of who we are: Manifest Destiny, American Exceptionalism, God’s favored land, and by God, “We’re #1”. You can see this in the fans. So our expectations are out of sight. So when our teams fall short we look for someone to blame. Such an American habit ! Tobin, I loved your analysis in a previous video in which you looked at some of the big picture structural things that, in our rush to find blame, we completely overlook.
I’m an 86 year old white guy who is committed to dismantling white supremacy, patriarchy, and racism, all of which are not personal but structural issues. I also totally love women’s soccer/football and watch NWSL as well as European games. In addition to Kosovare and her teammates, I love Danielle Van de Donk, Lieke Martens, Marie Antoinette Kototo, Delphine Cascarino…and the list goes on. Football is the beautiful game, especially when played by the women! Bless both of you for your incredible insights.

exactly also that "the world has caught up" excuse doesn't work with the USWNT. Outside of Portugal who have definitely stepped up their game recently, the tough match ups for the US were the Netherlands and Sweden who have been in the upper echelon of women's soccer for years now. I'm tired of this excuse, because even if they have caught up, it shouldn't matter since we're the freakin USWNT and the #1 ranked team in the world. Let them catch up, it should only make us stronger. The issues with this particular organization is internal and systemic, not because of external pressure from other countries. I could see where that effects the men's team, but the women's team should still be the best in the world, and they currently aren't.

This show has not only had great analysis and stories of the USWNT's past, it has also been an extraordinarily important antidote to a whole lot of nonsense that's been said about this year's USWNT. There are real problems with the program and you've been tough, but fair, about them. But the players do not deserve all the hate...especially from MAGAts who don't even care about football. You and your teammates have been great not only for the game, but for women and girls across the country and the world. As a father of a daughter, thank you!. Very proud of all of the older players, Kelley, Megan, Alyssa, Alex, Julie, and Becky, they all have paved a way and set an example for these younger players. (Tobin and Chris too)

Substitutions and in-game tactical changes is an issue in my opinion. Rapino and O'Hara missing their PKs is a horrible way to end their World Cup careers. I feel that was way too much pressure to put on Sofia Smith in the PK round. In the end, I think a coaching change is definitely needed to resolve the issues, and may I suggest a new coach who is a great communicator and tactical strategist.

Once again, the way Tobin expresses her feelings towards our last match is pure passion. The love for the game, and love for each individual player and friend. You can hear how angry she is, and you can also see and hear her trying not to choke up. It actually made me sad because of the way she was working herself up. And you could tell Christen wanted to console her in that moment.
As for Dawn, you can clearly see how the trainer-player dynamic acts like a student looking up to their teacher. You can't have an athlete at their peak without an elite trainer by their side.
As for a coach, all they pretty much have to do is hype up the players and make the roster. And everyone can tell, even Dawn, Tobin, and Christen, *SOMEONE* is not doing their job.

Almost as if he thought, ladies you’ve done it before, go out there and just play. Team was totally on thier own. The federation should’ve stepped in so much earlier and replaced him before the wc. We can’t lower the standards. He must be sacked and the team needs a minor reset. There still is a very good core of players to work with.
