Tbh, this song is not only a certified headbanger and just makes me want to break everything in my room, it also has something of a narrative going on in the lyrics, that of Dante's internal relationship. It basically comes down to this: Dante, being a hybrid, is half-human, half-demon; his two sides compel him to act in opposite ways. The human-side is lawful and benevolent, wanting him to act with control and reason, for a good cause ("I cannot erupt", "I must control"); meanwhile, his demon-side keeps contained within him, begging to be let out to take over and cause mayhem, act on impulse and with sheer violence ("Let me out", "I must explode"). Both sides despise each other, the human-half hating and wishing to restrain and completely subdue the other ("I will not falter, shout at the devil", "Got no respect for the demons in my head"), while the demon-half wishes to come loose and fully take over, uproot the more rational half which it itself thinks very little of ("Hellbound", "I am subhuman", the latter meaning less than human, an imperfect human, not truly human). You could see a few possible outcomes to the conflict: 1) Demon-Dante takes over. The chorus always ends with "I must explode" after the human-half utters "I cannot erupt", "I must control"; this could be seen as Dante giving up the fight and allowing his impulses to control him; 2) Human-Dante aligns with Demon-Dante. One thing to notice about the lines in the chorus and the lyrics after the chorus is that they overlap with each other, as if both were fighting for dominance; in the end of the lyrics, however, there are multiple voices saying "I must explode", which could mean Human-Dante gives up on the fight and aligns with its counterpart. 3) ... there is not really a fight here. Dante is mostly using his human side, but he also uses his devil side. He's found out the way to control himself: not by repressing the explosions, but timing them. Using even his outbursts for a good cause. Little thing to notice is that it is something all of us must learn. We all have peace and turmoil within us, sympathy and aggression. We can't simply say that one will reign and the other disappear, it doesn't work like that: we can't neuter our aggressions, nor can we be impulsive for long. Too much fuel means an explosion, but a lack of fuel means no explosion. The trick is to time the burts. To control the explosions; the when and the how. To redirect our impulses toward a goal is the best outcome: not only is a great fuel for action not wasted, but it is not used wrongly. It is what Dante is doing. Gotta remember, this is the peak of his character arc, until now. The utters of the human-half are not for dominance, but for simple control: a countdown of sorts. "I cannot erupt". Not now. "I must control". Not yet. "I cannot erupt". Still not yet. Now. Now is the time to call upon the dark gift. Now, "I MUST explode."
That was a beautiful explanation, I just wish it was put into the game. I think itd work for the reboot more than the "mainline" dmc since Donte is more of an outcast in his universe which is a shame but I love your description.

By the time you get to Dante, you feel less like you're playing as a player character and more like you're playing as a level boss. This music definitely reflects that feeling.
This theme feels like I'm playing a homeless man who snorts cocaine and smokes weed before fighting a demon who is just a swole guy fighting you after you throw two cereal box at him
I've said it before I'll say it again. This theme fits Dante 100%. While Nero and Virgils theme sing about their turmoil and inner emotions, Dantes theme focuses *ON HIS ACTIONS* unlike them.
I think the issue is that it felt really weird given dante's previous battle themes like divine hate, devil's never cry, Pyscho siren and Lock and load which had more of a.... dark rave vibe to them, and then this one was seemed to fit more with the reboot OST rather than this, also the first version of this song was just an awful. I've grown to stand this song with time, hated when it came out

I always found it funny how people used to say "This song doesn't fit Dante! It's too edgy!" But Subhuman is in the same style as Public Enemy, Lock and Load, Taste the Blood, and Divine Hate.
I think its because this theme seems a bit more scream-o based than the others or at the very least compared to taste the blood. I personally like it. I think it especially fits dante when he sin devil triggers.

What makes me love this song so much is how it fits with Dante's personality perfectly. This game is where Dante has pretty much reached the peak of both his power and his development, so the song sees his human and demon part constantly switching depending on what his needs are. "I must control" is him holding back and controlling himself when he is with his loved ones, while "You cannot kill me" and "Let me out" are his demonic part taking over when he needs to fight. It's at the same time musically amazing, badass, fitting for the character and extremely relatable.

Being a person who loves Death Metal, Deathcore, Heavy Metal and more, this is my favourite song in all game, I like Devil Trigger and Bury the Light but, The demonic screams in this song and the fact that it represents so well what Dante actually wants you to feel when facing him, That along with the SDT being the representation of all his power at the highest point, it just makes it clear to his enemies, He absolutely have the intention of killing everything at his path but doesn't give one single opportunity to his enemies to kill him and the line "YOU CANNOT KILL ME I AM OMEGA" makes it even more clear than water. I like the Style, I like how the song doesn't represent his life nor his path through the years but it represents his motivation and goal, TO KILL EVERYTHING AND NOT BE KILLED.

Yeah, every theme is unique and good in their own ways, not all of them are appealing to everyone, but none are objectively bad, even Crimson Cloud is awesome, that song fits perfectly V's gameplay with constant explosions and lightning. This song is awesome as well, they all are.
Dante is Son of Sparda, user of The Devil Sword Sparda (this gives him nearly full power of his father, Legendary Demon Swordsman Knight Sparda) and plus he has The Rebellion sword, contains another part of Sparda's power. He kicked prince of darkness, king of underworld Mundus's ass at age 28 and now he is 40 years old. He f.. clapped powerfull guardians of the underworld only at age 19, he has ebony and ivory, amazing guns made by Nell Goldstein only for him. He can use the power of demons that he kills etc... Now on the other hand there is Nero he has a glowing arm and revolver, he is Sparda's kin but not directly son of him, and he is much less battle experienced than Dante. Nero is so cool and i like him but he can't fight Dante :)

Let's be honest guys, this theme fits our wacky wahoo pizza man perfectly Virgil dislikes his human side and thinks it's weak and caused him all that pain on that day in their house But Dante is the opposite, he completly despises demons and hates himself for having this devil inside himself, always feeling like he is a monster and that their demonic heritage destroyed their lifes, if you dive deep into the expanded lore you see that his demonic side is the cause of all the suffering on his life, boy lost his mother, his brother and his deadbeat demon dad was knowhere to be seen. All his childhood, adolescence he suffered for being a demon, and he brought pain to all he ever loved, his mercenary friends and colleagues died because of it, sure Mundos sent them, but they would not have died if Dante wasn't around them, even his surrogate mother, Neil, died because of him, never even knowing his true name or nature. All of Dante's life has been suffering after suffering, all because of his demon herritage. Dante hates himself, always feeling like he has to hold back this demon inside him so at least he won't make anyone else suffer, putting this facede of a funny guy who doesn't care about jack shit to hide his pain always feeling like his about to explode. He trully feels like he is literally subhuman

Tbh, this song is not only a certified headbanger and just makes me want to break everything in my room, it also has something of a narrative going on in the lyrics, that of Dante's internal relationship.
It basically comes down to this: Dante, being a hybrid, is half-human, half-demon; his two sides compel him to act in opposite ways. The human-side is lawful and benevolent, wanting him to act with control and reason, for a good cause ("I cannot erupt", "I must control"); meanwhile, his demon-side keeps contained within him, begging to be let out to take over and cause mayhem, act on impulse and with sheer violence ("Let me out", "I must explode").
Both sides despise each other, the human-half hating and wishing to restrain and completely subdue the other ("I will not falter, shout at the devil", "Got no respect for the demons in my head"), while the demon-half wishes to come loose and fully take over, uproot the more rational half which it itself thinks very little of ("Hellbound", "I am subhuman", the latter meaning less than human, an imperfect human, not truly human).
You could see a few possible outcomes to the conflict:
1) Demon-Dante takes over. The chorus always ends with "I must explode" after the human-half utters "I cannot erupt", "I must control"; this could be seen as Dante giving up the fight and allowing his impulses to control him;
2) Human-Dante aligns with Demon-Dante. One thing to notice about the lines in the chorus and the lyrics after the chorus is that they overlap with each other, as if both were fighting for dominance; in the end of the lyrics, however, there are multiple voices saying "I must explode", which could mean Human-Dante gives up on the fight and aligns with its counterpart.
3) ... there is not really a fight here. This one is interesting: both sides are struggling for dominance, but not really battling at all times. The human-side seems to have more dominance overall, which is why it is the voice that speaks outside the chorus ("Funny how the mind tries to sink me deeper", "Got no respect for the demons in my head", "I will not falter, shout at the devil", "Something saved me, put me out of my destiny"), while the demon-half is relegated to echoes in the chorus.
Also, here comes the catch: when it comes to external battle, both sides are working together, which is why, in some other lines of the chorus, there are multiple voices (especifically, "You cannot kill me", "I am Omega", "I am subhuman", "I must explode"). Even more interesting is this line, out of the chorus, the human-half saying ".. as I call upon the dark gift to erupt". IT IS ALLOWING ITSELF TO ERUPT. Not out of impulse, but WILLINGLY.
Dante is mostly using his human side, but he also uses his devil side. He's found out the way to control himself: not by repressing the explosions, but timing them. Using even his outbursts for a good cause.
Little thing to notice is that it is something all of us must learn. We all have peace and turmoil within us, sympathy and aggression. We can't simply say that one will reign and the other disappear, it doesn't work like that: we can't neuter our aggressions, nor can we be impulsive for long. Too much fuel means an explosion, but a lack of fuel means no explosion.
The trick is to time the burts. To control the explosions; the when and the how. To redirect our impulses toward a goal is the best outcome: not only is a great fuel for action not wasted, but it is not used wrongly.
It is what Dante is doing. Gotta remember, this is the peak of his character arc, until now. The utters of the human-half are not for dominance, but for simple control: a countdown of sorts.
"I cannot erupt". Not now.
"I must control". Not yet.
"I cannot erupt". Still not yet.
Now. Now is the time to call upon the dark gift.

That was a beautiful explanation, I just wish it was put into the game. I think itd work for the reboot more than the "mainline" dmc since Donte is more of an outcast in his universe which is a shame but I love your description.

What makes me love this song so much is how it fits with Dante's personality perfectly.
This game is where Dante has pretty much reached the peak of both his power and his development, so the song sees his human and demon part constantly switching depending on what his needs are.
"I must control" is him holding back and controlling himself when he is with his loved ones, while "You cannot kill me" and "Let me out" are his demonic part taking over when he needs to fight.
It's at the same time musically amazing, badass, fitting for the character and extremely relatable.

Being a person who loves Death Metal, Deathcore, Heavy Metal and more, this is my favourite song in all game, I like Devil Trigger and Bury the Light but, The demonic screams in this song and the fact that it represents so well what Dante actually wants you to feel when facing him, That along with the SDT being the representation of all his power at the highest point, it just makes it clear to his enemies, He absolutely have the intention of killing everything at his path but doesn't give one single opportunity to his enemies to kill him and the line "YOU CANNOT KILL ME I AM OMEGA" makes it even more clear than water.
I like the Style, I like how the song doesn't represent his life nor his path through the years but it represents his motivation and goal, TO KILL EVERYTHING AND NOT BE KILLED.

I hope I'm not the only one that likes this just as much as Bury The Light and Devil Trigger. To me this entire soundtrack is phenomenal, the mix of metal and electronic edm feels so beautiful and I can't get enough of it, even the orchestral parts of this games ost is great

Yeah, every theme is unique and good in their own ways, not all of them are appealing to everyone, but none are objectively bad, even Crimson Cloud is awesome, that song fits perfectly V's gameplay with constant explosions and lightning.

Dante is Son of Sparda, user of The Devil Sword Sparda (this gives him nearly full power of his father, Legendary Demon Swordsman Knight Sparda) and plus he has The Rebellion sword, contains another part of Sparda's power. He kicked prince of darkness, king of underworld Mundus's ass at age 28 and now he is 40 years old. He f.. clapped powerfull guardians of the underworld only at age 19, he has ebony and ivory, amazing guns made by Nell Goldstein only for him. He can use the power of demons that he kills etc...
Now on the other hand there is Nero he has a glowing arm and revolver, he is Sparda's kin but not directly son of him, and he is much less battle experienced than Dante.
Nero is so cool and i like him but he can't fight Dante :)

@@bars9112 don't know why people assume more demonic means more powerful. Like, seems we pretty clearly see the opposite, like dante beating Virgil at full demon, but struggling against virgil with his human half and losing, while nero is able to beat both dante and virgil.

Let's be honest guys, this theme fits our wacky wahoo pizza man perfectly
Virgil dislikes his human side and thinks it's weak and caused him all that pain on that day in their house
But Dante is the opposite, he completly despises demons and hates himself for having this devil inside himself, always feeling like he is a monster and that their demonic heritage destroyed their lifes, if you dive deep into the expanded lore you see that his demonic side is the cause of all the suffering on his life, boy lost his mother, his brother and his deadbeat demon dad was knowhere to be seen.
All his childhood, adolescence he suffered for being a demon, and he brought pain to all he ever loved, his mercenary friends and colleagues died because of it, sure Mundos sent them, but they would not have died if Dante wasn't around them, even his surrogate mother, Neil, died because of him, never even knowing his true name or nature.
All of Dante's life has been suffering after suffering, all because of his demon herritage.
Dante hates himself, always feeling like he has to hold back this demon inside him so at least he won't make anyone else suffer, putting this facede of a funny guy who doesn't care about jack shit to hide his pain always feeling like his about to explode.
He trully feels like he is literally subhuman
