Since I really like the bike and it's performance, I tend to focus on the positiv things about it, but I guess I should also include the experiences with multiple workshop appointments and defective parts within the first year of ownership - because this actually became quite an extensive list for one year of ownership:
    - rear brake disc getting too loose => replacement
    - original battery did not make it through the first winter despite not being used for short distance trips, and having it re-conditioned completely myself trying to imiprove the performance. => replacement after some discussions with KTM
    - optional touring windshield broke. The slightly damaged windshield spoiler (from crashing off together with the broken part of the windschield) was not replaced.
    - unclear if the combination touring windshield with powerpart windshield spoiler could actually work at all (no statement from KTM in this regard)
    - 4 workshop appointments for the indicator/warning light issue - this was by far the most annoying and persistent problem so far. KTM basically dealt with this by replacing parts on good luck and have the customer test the result
    - due to some electronic problem at the dealership: replacement of 3x locks on the bike, 1x lock on top case, 2 side cases replaced completely
    - curise control malfunctioning due to a defective brake switch (sitting underneath the tank, ~1h repair)
So even when this was covered within the warranty (with some discussion for break disc and battery), the multiple workshop appointments do cause quite a deal of spent time, expenses and lost time - where you can't plan to actually use your motorbike...
    Additional replies to further questions:
    - I did the official service intervalls with a KTM dealer. In 2 weeks it's going to be the 30.000km service. So oil change has been done at 1000 and 15.000km so far
    - Surprisingly I did not have to add any oil at all over the last 30.000 km other than I think 250ml at the very beginning within the first 1000km.
    - valve check will be done now at the 30k service according to service plan
    - no oil leackages whatsoever
    - I did check the chain/rear sprocket now after my last 7k trip and almost 30k in total. I think there is some wear noticeable, it couuld be changed, I couuld continue on it as well. I think I'll try to do another 15k on it I will however change the clutch plates. I had them checked on my KTM 890R at 30k - dealer said they look ok, but at the 45k service there had been damage to other parts of the clutch - so that last stint was too long. I won't take this chance witht eh SMT, especially since I do long tours on it and I don't want to risk having a clutch issue during those.
    - Yes, the LEDs are original KTM OEM ones (3rd party producer however). But those are not high beams, but fog lights only - so they give you extended side view, not better front and far ahead sight...

Thanks for this update. I bought one March 2024 and after 6500k I've had one problem- rev matching from 3rd to 2nd gear sometimes cuts the engine off. I've owned 4 ducati (panigale v4, hyper 950, desert sled, supersport) and two aprilia's rsv4 during the past 5 years and the 890 smt has been the best running bike of all.

Wow, that's quite a list of great bikes! Good to hear that you confirm my impression of the SMT to be a very good performing bike - as long as it works, that is.. Could they sort the issue out? What was it?
Yesterday I had a ride from a small trail, over gravel road, very small mountain hairpins to very fast and wide country road corners - and within this range I really think there is not a better bike.. Those supersports is a different thing though - with those you need race track or really fast, good road with no speed limit.. :)

@@TANGORACING The more I ride the more i like too which for me is very good. I'm still a superbike person at heart but I needed a change. Fortunately I have good roads with a speed limit but few police haha. I haven't checked the issue out with dealer because I typically use the quickshifter and it only happens between those 2 gears during a manual rev match and only occasionally. It must be a fueling or air issue. What really surprised me about the smt is how good the J Juan front brake is. Actually better than some brembo set ups.

I have the same screen and have just noticed tiny cracks starting in the same place, after only 2,000kms of road riding!
I was going to put the same extension on but I'm sure that will only speed up the cracking unfortunately.
I will hit the dealer up about it at service next week.

Thank you for commenting! Very interessting! I thought it was due to the combination additional spoiler + off-road riding... Then this is a much bigger issue than I thought so far..

You might want to check out the right side switch as it seems to act like a relay instead of a real relay for the SMT. I had signal issues and after replacing that, it's all good for now. Fingers crossed.

It’s why I took the smallerscreen and installed the diffuser on it: it performs great and no cracks after 7kkm. Great review, can you tell something about servicing? How often you change oil? Did you observed any oil consumption ? Did service checked the valves clearance ? Any oil leackages ? What about the chain state after this mieleage ? On the cornering video I see you’ve addes extra LEDs, are they oem? Normal hi beam is to poor for me as I often finish my trips on 1-2am.. I will appreciate.

@@TANGORACING thanks a lot for a prompt reply! I’m little suprised for the 15km intervals for oil. I know it isn’t a mono cylinder that requires more frequent oil exchanges but now I’m confused as I was planning to change it before the 15kkm service. Looking your sporty riding style and everything is okay makes me have to think more. Second topic is the chain state: I’d never belive that the original can last above 20kkm and you use it even further is a big positive suprise. Also, thanks for your opinion about the fog lamps.

I have a honda a transalp. I'm obsessed with the SMT. So I made a video recently wondering if the 890ADV is a better road bike or the 890SMT is a better dirt road bike?
I'm not yet sure how hard I really wanna push off road but coming from sport bikes and yamaha tracers, I'm very tempted to bespoke 19/17 rims or maybe 17/17 rims to my transalp
    Loving your videos

Hi, nice video! It is really amazing bike. I crashed mine at aprox 50kph in corner on spilled oil and fueltank crash cover break in same way, but everything else is ok, so I believe, it is intended to break like that. Better to change that cover (it is suprising, how cheap it is from KTM), than change fuel pump and tank underneath.
Maybe I missed that part, but how long did your original tyres lasted? I have 6k km on clock and rear tire is almost done.. Thank you 🙂

    • @TANGORACING
      @TANGORACING  5 месяцев назад

Thx, I agree, I guess it does protect for more serious damage and the replacement parts are less expensive than I expected. they are also very easy to be changed.. I still feel much better now with a decent protection bar installed around it.. I can't remember how long I went on the original tires, but for sure not 6k but quite some less.. I ride a bit to sporty to get decent milage out of the tires.. : )

How was the valve lash? In spec? And how were your cam lobes doing since they seem to be an issue in the LC8c-engine

    • @TANGORACING
      @TANGORACING  4 месяца назад

As far as I know the valve play is checked at the 30k service. I have appointment for that in 2 weeks. (My 30k review update is coming up soon and includes some negative findings, but not regarding this..) I don't think they check the cam lobes during default service?! Since I am not a mechanic who can tear apart the engine, I won't be able to check that. I can ask about what the see/find, but my experience with KTM service is that they are not sharing about their work.
What I can tell though is that I have done 55.000km on my Duke 890R. Different to the 890 SMT my Duke 890R does need some oil now and then. And I recently had another dyno run which was absolutely identical with one I did when I received it (checking power with full akra system and mapping). So that looks all good so far as far as engine goes.
