You were talking about the light rail bungle in Sydney. I am from Newcastle and we just had our light rail finished, with these exact same problems including the shutdown of small businesses and huge amounts of disruption in town.
Also, you will be interested to know, the original plan for Newy's light rail was to have it built where the old train line was, which is what was promised, then our lovely NSW Government SOLD ALL OF IT TO DEVELOPERS and instead tore up our main road and built the light rail there.
The original selling point was 'WE'RE TEARING DOWN THE TRAIN AND PUTTING LIGHT RAIL THERE SO YOUR VIEW OF THE HARBOUR ISN'T OBSTRUCTED' and now they're like 'ACTUALLY WE'RE GONNA BLOCK YOUR VIEW WITH HIGH RISES INSTEAD'
The blownout costs associated with this have meant our light rail is predicted to never earn back it's costs of construction and pretty much always just be a drain on resources.

two years ago bought a 92 Nissan pulsar with my best mate and travelled from Brisbane --> Cairns --> Darwin --> Adelaide --> Melbourne --> Sydney and all the places in between (Coober Pedy - jesus fucking christ). I'm now back in uni but I'm consistently watching these videos. Makes me remember some completely outrageous moments and characters in Aus and keeps that spirit alive. At the same time incredibly informative and makes me want to go and read about the issues myself, just refreshing in general. I honestly know more of Aussie politics than my own. For the attack ads, the best ever voice I've ever heard is by the guy that does the voice of Mike Nolan from "The Big Lez Show." Doesn't get much more true blue ocker aussie than that.

"Legal corruption" is mine. I started using it about 10 years ago when Australia helped the Philippines revamp their visa processing. Corruption cost me 2000 pesos for a fast track visa and after Australia's charitable revamp the official fee was 3000 pesos. That is how I coined the term. Good to see it getting a work out, unless he reinvented the wheel. "Reinvented the wheel" is another of mine going back to the early 90s. If u heard it b4 then then I reinvented the wheel on the term "reinvented the wheel". That got a work out back in the day too in the ALP where I used it at branch meetings.

Jordie, the late 80's had some terrible adverts. There was the 'Grim Reaper anti-aids ad'. Sheer terror, there should have been warnings prior to its showing. Another ad that was quite funny at the time, it was an ad called 'Heroes wear helmets whenever they fly' (aimed at safety awareness for bike/skateboarding). The late 80's were funny when it came to advertising.
So they have a meeting at the Sutherland business chamber and you have the Mayor (Liberal) asking state Labor candidates questions about how concern he his about labor changing laws on population density if they get in, then you have one of the former Mayors (Liberal) saying how she "Cannot find fault with this government" talk about dirty tactics.

I'm not even sure we needed a light rail. We have tunnels and trains that serviced the area for years. Reminds me of the bloody monorail in 2000s but at least we had an Olympics coming up.

After the Landslide Labor Victory here in Victoria I really didn't expect the snowflake Liberals to get back in in NSW. I really feel for them because Sydney is where I spent the first 8 years of my life and to see it being destroyed hurts.

Bit irrelevant but.....I was on the light rail between central and the casino in 2014. All of a sudden it started raining (not heavily either) and we were made to get off as 'the vehicle cannot operate safely in this weather'.

The squeegee guy at City Road and Broadway threatened to "Smash my fucking windscreen!" when I tapped on the window and waved him away after he had already taken it upon himself to clean my already spotless windscreen. "I'm not throwing mud on it for fuck's sake!" This guy had really hit rock bottom which is about as low as the homeless guy I once saw who was playing a 'guitar' with 2 strings and mumbling gibberish in the hope it would pass for entertainment worthy of a donation.
I knew as soon as you said political ads that the we're coming back man was about to make an appearance. I loved that one. The election before had some good ones by both sides.
