I am Puerto Rican & part Cuban... I've watched a video on how to use chopsticks correctly but I can't seem to use them correctly no matter now many times I try. This is a great alternative to use them. Thank you.

This was pretty much how a restaurant I used to work at made "training" chopsticks on request. The only problem with this method is that it doesn't really teach you how to use chopsticks at all, but rather how to use tongs. Honestly, it's fine if you have no real need to learn how to use chopsticks and just want to play around eating with them. However, if you actually want to learn how to properly use chopsticks, never do this.

Regarding the people saying just learn to use them properly, this is just the first step, like training wheels on a bike, they get removed as soon as confidence improves. For people who are a bit nervous about trying to use chopsticks, I think they'd be a great help.

I think this is a great trick for those who don't know how to use chopsticks! I have some friends who really want to learn how to use them but they just struggle. Definitely gonna share this video! I read some of the comments and I don't quite understand why some people are attacking each other for knowing and not knowing how to use chopsticks... I have friends who grew up using chopsticks like me, using hands, and using forks and knives. Be nice :)

I figured out how to use chopsticks by myself, the first time I went to a sushi restaurant. I didn't know if I was doing it correctly so afterwards I googled an instruction and it turned out I was right. So - it's not rocket science, just simple logic - you have to make one of the chopsticks immobile while manipulating the other. Figure it out, geniuses, seriously.
The amount of butthurt Asians in the comment section is too damn high. Most people don't know how to use chopsticks, boo hoo, you don't need to make fun of us other races. Plus, using a different kind of cutlery is not an asset. Grow a proper pair.

Good tip for people who have difficulty in using chopstick. I teach people to master the art of gripping a single tiny raw grain of rice with chopstick. No one is perfect, practice makes you perfect.

Hanshin Mullet Exactly, he should hold it more towards the end of the chopsticks. He hold it more towards the tips of the chopsticks in the beginning of the video, and hold it in the middle of them later. That's just not the right way to use chopsticks.

It's basically just adding a paper to serve as a fulcrum to create a simple lever. The rubber band acts as the load.

an alterenative to this if you are eating at a restaurant is to keep the chopsticks connected at the top, the roll up the wrapper that they came in up and stick that in between them.

As others have pointed out, this is not at all a good way to use chopsticks. With real sticks the back ends always stay 2-3 centimeters apart, allowing the two tips to come together to a single point. And you do not grip strongly with them, but _lightly_ grasp and maneuver the food to where you want it to go, using only as much force as necessary. Trying to use them as pincers is a great way to send food flying across the table.
It does take a bit of practice, but it's not really hard, and once you get the technique down, they are a neat and convenient form of eating utensil. I also love using my long, cooking chopsticks. They're awesome for turning food in a frying pan.
