I am 81 year old women who fractured my right knee patella 55 days ago April 30. The exercises I was doing did not touch on the IT band and when I found and used your exercise I got relief and have been doing it 3 times a day. feels pretty normal now. See specialist again after X-ray. Hopefully he will be pleased with my progress. So glad I found your video and appreciate the relief it has given me.
You have to be pleased with your Progress Dear. Those are your legs, Not his. And what ever hé says, as Long you feel well with those exercises you Go ahead. Greatings from 75 y old who is struggeling to.
Your knowledge and stretch demonstration on this video is really impressive . I am 83 yrs old and have left knee arthritis and patellofemoral syndrome , knee pain is present all the time , it grinds , locks up with effusion , difficulty with stairs and walking more than 500 meters. I have been told that I need knee replacement in 2014. I had right knee replacement in 2014. Now I have developed back pain due to arthritis of lumbar spines with left sciatica. No body ever told me to these stretches. From now on , I am going to follow your video. Thank you Will. Greetings from Canada.
I'm a 72 yr old tap dancer, and 5 months ago I started with pain behind my knee. Been to several Dr's cortisone shots, PT and no relief. I found you by accident and have downloaded 3 videos on strengthening gluten knee and thigh muscles. It seems everything you spoke about is what I should be doing.
I’m so happy to have found your channel. I’m 73 and having problems with knee arthritis, and although I go for at least one walk a day, I do sit a lot, which has allowed my muscles to decrease and become very stiff. I do exercises for my knee arthritis, but you have more specific ones to get more attention to the muscles in this video. These are very helpful, as are all of your videos. Thank you so much for helping seniors like me to help themselves stay mobile and not depend on others for assistance. I haven’t reached that point, but your videos will help keep me functioning better and longer.
I’m a 32yr old ice hockey player and general athlete and this is the first video I’ve seen that depicted my exact knee pain and gave a path forward to work on it. Thank you!
Another excellent video. Had arthritis-related knee pain for over a year, physiotherapy and massage helped a bit but too generic so still had knee pain. Combination of diet, lifestyle changes and Will Harlow's precise and targeted advice have resulted in having only a small discomfort in the knees. Now walking better and further which keeps the 'virtuous cycle' going. Thanks Will.
This video is a great help for my knee pain. They are not so uncomfortable to do and I actually feel the stretches really effective and relieving the tightness. I am 73. Thank you so much, Will. I wish we have more professionals like you here. They are few really good ones. Sorry..
Thanks for such informative explanations and detailed guidance and advice. Have had tight quads causing knee inflammation for many months but believe your suggested exercise will relieve symptoms. Thanks again and best wishes.
Such great information. I do your leg out and behind each time I go up or down the stairs also use a 'duck like', tread. Pain is lessening. You are amazing. The above exercise works as it brings on an acute reaction. Thankyou.
You have just helped me with that very problem. Every session I have seen has been very helpful. I am in my seventies and suffered a fall lately, which led to a wrist fracture and many other issues.
Thank You. I did these stretches at the same time as you were giving instructions and I could definately feel the tightness in those muscles. I will continue to do them daily and see what happens, as the exercises that I was doing does not seem to be very effective, at least not yet.
Thanks for this. Very helpful. Maybe check your video / camera placement as the demonstration of where eg the quads are or glutes is cut off so not able to see. Glad for your help
I'm able to do squat (Malasana) for at least 5 mins a day for the past few years. about 6 weeks ago, I went for blood donation. I rested for 2 weeks and started by stair climbing exercise. 4 weeks ago, I climbed 100 storey of stairs and do a lot of squat exercise. After that event, I can't squat fully for more than 1 month now due to knee pain, tight hamstring & calf. I hope this exercise can help to enable my mobility again.
That stair-climbing was really crazy. Now you have to do really gentle all-round stretches and simply start training from scratch gain. I know, because i have overdone, overloaded many times. You really get difficult setbacks, and the older you get the worse the setbacks get and the longer time come-backs take, but it is possible. I feel for you and hope you find the right support! Gentle and painfree movements, and no rushes! You can become your own coach! All the best wishes!
Hi Will love your video so informative! I now know where the pain comes from on side of the knee! It seems to come and go. But everything is tight on my right side quads, calf and glutes! I also have RA and a few months ago got PF in one foot ! I do aerobics every day but try and do pre and post stretches as much as possible but obviously not doing enough!
I had a knee replacement acouple of years ago and despite doing the exercises I still have bruising and pain at the front of that knee and also stiffness so I will try what you suggest .
As an over 50 person, thank you. Yes I have a copy of your book coming. Unfortunately there are a zillion recommended exercises out there on RUclips and other places. Do you have a recommended maintenance routine to do daily?
Thankyou for sharing Doctor.I have been watching several of your videos for the last three four days.Im 65 years old,and am suffering from knee pain. The videos are very helpful to choose the exercises I need and also your explanations too have been very helpful. 🎉🌹💐👍👍☺️
I'm sorry to hear about the knee pain you're experiencing, but I'm pleased my videos have been able to offer some helpful information! I'm wishing you all the best :)
Thank you Dr Will for this detailed and good explanation video. Looking forward to see other video from you on knee problem. Do you hv video for wrist pain?
I can't believe it! I have hip bursitis and once it got better, my thighs and calves started feeling really really tight and then my knee began hurting very very much! It's incredible how all these are connected actually. Now I see why my PT screams about me getting back to working out asap 😅
Thank you for this lesson. I have a arthritis in the knee and a torn meniscus. I bought your book a few months ago but have not dived into it yet. Thank you for your videos.
I'm a 51 year old endurance runner with exceptional muscle build and mobility with no personal of family history of arthritis. I am currently in physio treatment to correct outer hip and inside upper thigh adductor discomfort. I also have a history of sciatica and IT band tightness. Due to the recent overuse to the tune of 143KM of runs in 9 days, I have developed a dull pain on the outer right knee just below the knee cap itself. I know I should scale back/cease further use until resolved but I am also seeking ideas for treatments
I have knee pain on the inside of my left knee. When I straighten my leg to do a calf stretch, my left knee hurts on the inside as I mentioned. Is it OK to do this exercise? By the way, if I sit with my left leg bent and then stand up my left knee hurts on the inside in the same spot when I straighten my leg. It also hurts in the same spot when I walk, but the pain does lessen after I walk a bit. so are these exercises good for this type of knee pain or if not, what exercise should I be doing to stretch muscles and lessen the pain the pain when I walk. I am starting to feel less and less pain but it is still there. Thanks in advance for your advice.
Hello, I have the same problem on the inside of my left knee which would be called the medial side. You probably have an MCL issue. I’m actually in physical therapy right now and they’ve been stretching my hamstrings and believe it or not able to pass couple weeks I feel 75% better in, the pain I do get is more subtle. So I basically stretch my calves stretch your quads stretch your hamstrings instructorship flexors. I don’t forget to do other stretches to like your low back and your upper back.
Hi Will. I am 76 and think maybe this exercise might help me. I have just tried it and felt pulling in the back of my leg and foot. Is this normal pls?
Thank you very much Dr Will, 🙏 thats my right leg symptom last 4 years. Wow, wonderful exercise, tightness on my right leg and lower back. No doctor cant solve my problem, shoes, compressor socks, and acupunctures treatment. No painful, not hurt, only stiffness and tightness walking after sitting or standing too long then I cant walk normal for 3 second, its tight on my right leg, cant walk fast. Feel good already with 3 exercise, The third exercise sit up is good in the car, hope it helps for a long distance. 🙏🙏🙏 I found my good Doctor, Dr Will
Thanks, start at7 minutes if short in time, stretch front of thigh 30 seconds, stretch for calf ,push on wall ,one leg extended front leg bent, keep 30 seconds, streching gluteal muscles, sitting, cross leg over, hug leg towards opposite shoulders.3 streching program as prevention and therapueti

Hi I have knee pain and my had x-ray on both knees and the results is I have anterior knee pain, so far no exercise been mention, just walking. Can you recommend any exercises I can do please?
Hi Dr. Will, I injured something while stretching after riding the recumbent bike on Monday 6/26. Definitely the IT band, but now the muscles that continue to spasm are on the lower back of the thigh above the left knee. What can I do to stretch the muscles further down the back of the leg, lower hamstrings?
This may be coming late, but have you tried (on the floor or mat) rolling your leg on a tennis ball or something similar under your leg. Even just putting pressure without moving the leg and using the weight of the leg to apply the pressure. If more pressure is needed you can always apply more with your hands.
The stretches are greatly demonstrated but the issue is these streches will be extremely difficult to do if the knee flexion is already impaired and it is painful to bend knee even 60 degrees
Should these 3 "stretch" movements to address tightness that cause knee pain be done before or after your "3 best body weight exercises for stronger legs"? I do have considerable knee pain at times as well as general aches in my quadriceps and even in the areas of my shins. Typical physical therapy programs I've experienced DO NOT seem to address these problems in an effective way, while YOUR instructions with respect to the stretch movements that can loosen up the quads + glues + calf muscles seem to be more effective in addressing my problems. I am a subscriber and very much enjoy the targeted instructions on addressing knee. I look forward to the videos on back pain, etc. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
