I love the way Melville builds tension before the action. In many scenes of this type of genre, you'd usually have a different setup, with a huge gunfight at the end. Melville plays this in a subdued, poetic way.
Just got this film in the mail off ebay today. Im halfway through viewing it taking a smoke/tea break and i must say im really enjoying it. Thanks again Criterion Collection!
This bridge was destroyed in 2000 after the closing of the Station filmed here, the Gare du Boulevard Massena : fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gare_du_boulevard_Masséna
