I’ve been diagnosed with MVP about 15 years ago due to symptoms of irregular hearbeat, chest pain, back pain and random high pulse. The cardiologist said I may have been born with it. I’m 45. Just keep monitoring it. I went later 2 more times to the ER, wore Holter monitor etc. All symptoms were due to MVP. I started taking Magnesium gylicinate regularly about 5 years ago before bed (400 mg) for leg cramps and a more relaxed sleep. I had a very detailed heart ultrasound about 3 years ago and they could not find my prolapse. It’s no longer there. Nobody knew what happened… Now, I think this may have been due to Magnesium…

Same thing happened with me. I would have stabbing heart pains or chest pains, irregular heartbeat or racing heart rate, during or after play or exercise when I was a kid. I thought I was having a heart attack- but it never lasted but a few minutes and I was so young that Drs dismissed it. It got worse during times of stress- and it caused me to have panic attacks- especially during my late 20s. I finally found a Dr that listened to me and sent me to a cardiologist that ran tests- echocardiogram, holter monitor and diagnosed me with MVP with regurgitation. I was put on a betablocker. It helped some, but I still had stabbing heart pain periodically, and it made me feel SO tired all the time and caused bruising. I finally stopped taking it. About 16 yrs ago I started taking 1000 mg of magnesium citrate or magnesium oxide daily for constipation. After a couple of months I noticed that I wasn't having stabbing heart pains, skipped beats or heart palpitations. I haven't had any tests to see if my MVP has healed, but something changed because I haven't had any heart issues like I had before I took the magnesium- and that was about 16 or 17 yrs ago.

Omgosh!!! I was diagnosed with MVP at age 18, I have been under the care of a cardiologist since, I am now 66. I had an ablation in 2002 and it’s helped my wacky, chaotic heartbeat mostly. But several years ago my heart started beating irregularly (significantly) again. So my Dr had me wear 24 hour heart monitor, again. I had 13,532 IRREGULAR heart beats in 24 hours, my Dr put me on beta blocker but it really didn’t make that big of a difference in the irregularity and it made me light headed so I quit taking it. My daughter read about Magnesium so I started taking it, 2 years later when I wore the heart monitor I had 98 irregular heartbeats!!!!! When my Dr called he said this is remarkable, the beta blocker is doing its job to which I replied I am not taking that I am taking magnesium! There was a silent pause and then he said, we’ll keep doing it! But it doesn’t stop there, he started listening harder for the click, it was getting fainter!!!
Btw… I do take vitamin D3 but recently ordered your Vit D3 combo!

I was struck by something else NOT related to alpha ipoic acid and nerve problems -- a lot of pretty new research suggests alpha lipoic acid is beneficial for heart and even serious arrhythmias. I mentioned ithis to a cardiologist I know through my work and he said there was some mounting excitement about that ... I am not a doctor and cannot give advice but I'm just saying if you have palpitations, MVP,etc.. you might want to do your own research or talk to your own doctor about taking magnesium ( many forms may upset stomach, glycinate won't) and perhaps alpha lipoic acid.

I've trained in functional medicine over a decade and just wanted to point something out here that Dr. Berg said. He said you NEED vitamin D in order for magnesium to work when in reality, YOU NEED magnesium in order for vitamin D to work. If you are taking vitamin D or getting it through sunlight, you could deplete your magnesium stores and cause a host of problems unless you are taking it with magnesium as well. Not only that, but you need K2 to prevent calcium from getting stored in soft tissues as vitamin D taken alone could increase this risk. One example that happened to me here recently. I started getting 10-15 minutes per day of sunlight and by the 3rd day I noticed my sleep was terrible. I also noticed I felt more anxious. Why is that? Because as I stated above, YOUR BODY needs magnesium to activate vitamin D and by me getting more vitamin D through sunlight, I basically was in a deficit because I have not been taking that much magnesium. I knew the problem right away and increased my magnesium intake and it fixed it almost immediately.

I do not know what my magnesium levels were at that time, but in my later life (I am now 80) I have taken 400-600 mg of magnesium daily and my magnesium levels are always in the upper quadrant in testing. The mvp progressed, slowly but definitely. I also developed other heart issues which are pretty much under control. Magnesium apparently wasn’t a factor for me. 🤷‍♀

I was diagnosed with what my cardiologist called a textbook MVP when I was 18 years old. I knew something was wrong when for several days straight I had severe chest pain and could barely function. I thought I was having a heart attack at the time.
After that initial episode I would experience “attacks” a few times per year that would stop me in my tracks. On one visit to my cardiologist I asked him what was causing the pain. He told me that people with MVP are typically low in magnesium and that the pain I was experiencing wasn’t from the valve itself, but from the surrounding tissue which becomes very sensitive because of this deficiency. After that visit I started taking magnesium supplements and dramatically reduced my painful episodes.
I’m 64 now and still have the textbook MVP, but it doesn’t cause me the grief it used to.

This information is right up a vegan's ally 😂 I was talking with a friend the other day about the amazing benefits of eating grass-fed butter and 80/20 grass-fed grass-finished beef. We were surrounded by a few visual vegans. When they heard "meat with butter," their reaction was like watching a pet jerboa react to the sound of a door nob turning! Thanks a bunch, Dr. Berg! The funny thing about vegans is you KNOW they don't do actual research on health...they just assume that plant based HAS to be the best and obviously ignore ALL of the solid research that proves that our bodies were NOT designed to extract vitamins, nutrients and protein from plant based products like it is for animal based products. What I have come to realize is is that the plant based products are there for ruminant animals to consume and become a microbiome factory of vitamins which then goes into their muscular system and fat which THEN becomes like natures multivitamin for OUR bodies......this why vegans will feel better at first because let's face it, plant based products are WAY better than the junk processed crap that Americans eat on a typical diet so they will at first feel better but ultimately the nutrition begins to tail off and eventually will suffer from various nutritional deficiencies....but not on carnivore!

You can also end up with a damaged mitral valve (and thus MVP) after having rheumatic fever. As a kid this happened to me and conventional 'wisdom' at the time said I had to be on a blood pressure reducing drug for life and never do anything strenuous. After a year of that I said screw it, stopped taking the drug and got into weight lifting. 'Magically' (sarcasm) my heart healed itself and there is no trace of any valve damage or prolapse decades later.

OH. MYYYYY. GOODNESS! I was diagnosed with tachycardia in my late teens. I'm almost 44 now. they attempted an ablation - didn't go well - had to pull crash cart and I can't take beta blockers because I have low blood pressure. shortly after this diagnosis I started having panic attacks. Many, intense and regularly. to the point that they diagnosed me with chronic panic disorder and threw benzos at me to manage it so I could have some sort of quality of life. but I've been TRYING AND TRYING to get someone to hear me FOR SOOOOO LONG when I've said I always thought the panic was triggered after I have one of these tachycardia episodes and then this RUSH of adrenaline and THEN I go into fight or flight mode. Dr Berg notes:
If you have mitral valve prolapse, your heart valves are not opening and closing correctly.
Mitral valve prolapse causes floppy, leaky valves that are large and bulging. This bulging, displaced tissue is called prolapse, which leads to inefficient heart pumping.
Mitral valve prolapse symptoms include weakness, fatigue, palpitations, anxiety, and shortness of breath. It’s often described as idiopathic, which means it has no known cause. Mitral valve prolapse is generally treated with beta-blockers or a calcium channel blocker.
In a double-blind study, 141 subjects with mitral valve prolapse were compared to 40 healthy subjects. Sixty percent of the mitral valve prolapse group had magnesium deficiency compared to only 5% of the healthy subjects.
Low magnesium leads to high adrenaline. It also accelerates the aging of the fibroblast cell, which helps you make collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. As we age, the fibroblast cell is very important for our skin, ligaments, tendons, and valves.
One of the first signs of magnesium deficiency is tetany. Surprisingly, 85% of people with mitral valve prolapse have tetany!
Don’t just rely on the RDA if you’re deficient in magnesium. Try taking 400 mg 2 to 3 times a day, working up to this amount slowly. Also, ensure you’re getting enough vitamin D. Magnesium won’t work without vitamin D!
Avoid sugar and refined carbs because they significantly decrease magnesium.
It takes years for a magnesium deficiency to show up and it can take up to a year to correct. Try magnesium glycinate to increase your magnesium levels over time.
    Thank you Dr Berg!

I had a job at NAPA lined up in 1976 at 19.
The manager said you're hired, just go get a physical clearance.
Walked 3 miles to Peachtree Street in Atlanta to a doctor they told me to see.
He kept me from getting that good job for this.
Years later I am now almost 68, never had a heart problem until now.
Where do I order magnesium that is absorbed the best?

The 400mg of magnesium should be elemental magnesium. You might have a supplement that claims 1,500 mg of magnesium, but only 160 mg of elemental. I take magnesium citrate and sometimes malate, but always magnesium glycinate before bed. I make no claim that this will cure or lessen a prolapse, but with my condition, I have a moderate prolapse, started taking the elemental magnesium, and three years later it was classified as mild. I don't suffer any of the symptoms, and my doctor hasn't placed any restrictions on my exercise.

i read a well laid out comment that someone put in a dr berg video recently on march 18th which looked like the words came from a magnesium study done by magnesium advocacy group in 2016 and a lady named tracy grady. it stated that magnesium citrate is not recommended as it interferes with ceruloplasmin and can cause iron dysregulation and health issues. it gave a complete breakdown of all forms of magnesium and what theyre good for and i assume its legit. i hope this may be helpful
