I said the same thing watching the race. 15 laps of Gasly and Sainz lost in translation...meanwhile, we all watched an amazing and exciting battle for 14 between Kmag and Ricci (they deserve the tv time, for sure...but more than the 4 laps where Gasly was in DRS distance?)

To wit, Spain unlike the other circuits suited the Mercs far better than the other ones. 2 Mercs against 1 redbull in a proven track like Barcelona was never gonna cut it by any stretch. They should've had the other bull up there with Max to even be in with a shout.

U ask any driver if they would prefer either 50 million with no race wins or 20 millions with plenty of wins, podium and realistic chance of fighting for WC, most drivers would pick the latter
@@newworldmusic9008 Totally agree. His pride took him to another team. He had a better team with Red Bull and the switch to Honda Unit seemed to pay off for RB. Ric said he cared most about winning but that just doesn't seem to be the case with that move.
@@newworldmusic9008 Lol Daniel might as well make some money then and wait for the Driver market to switch up. Rebull was good this season but they were never in contention to win the title. Im sure Max will also get board soon of just winning races instead of having a realistic shot at a championship. Plus Daniel can hone his skills in the intense midfield.

A very solid fourth place with a Renault engine. Amazing progress. I saw an interview with the team principle. Down to earth guy. A lot has changed there including the drivers. He praises them. Working together and really getting along with each other. They are clearly having. Carlos better than ever. Really impressed by Norris. Great job McLaren!
@@MGHB-yd1ye Nope. They are beating him. Only reason Gasly is ahead of Sainz in the championship is because of his 4th place in Silverstone and McLarens bad luck at the start of the season. I'm a McLaren fan, but the facts don't lie. Sainz and Norris are consistently outperforming Gasly.
Bet they wish they were fighting with that Honda engine they helped iron out all the wrinkles for Red Bull though... ;)

Full credit to Ricciardo, when he held up Bottas for 20 or so laps in a row, that was what destroyed any chances of a better result for Bottas. In the same situation I'm not so sure Esteban would have done much better, but that's very subjective I guess.

I think Lewis did drive better . It's already difficult to overtake in Hungary and the attempts he made were great. The fact that *james* being a great strategist just helped Lewis to overtake .

Bad thinking. Ferrari is insane on tracks with long straights but sucks at turn heavy tracks.
Mercedes is almost as good as Ferrari on straights but is much much better at turning.
RedBull is a mixed package that's kinda the same to Mercedes but not equal.
Spa and Monza should be Ferrari's best races this season.

A Bains he would have had the fastest lap had he put on soft tires instead of medium. Max has soft tires so naturally he’d have a slight advantage in lap time.
Also they would have pitted Max after Lewis got passed regardless of a point or not, no need risking a puncture on dead tires if you’re 40 seconds again of the next car.

Also, I understand people like to compare Verstappen and Lewis (and I enjoy the banter on occassion) but today I think we should just appreciate that Lewis executed a difficult strategy brilliantly and Max did awesome to keep the (probably faster) Merc behind without crumbling under pressure. You could see in the cool down room that all 4 were chatting away because it was such a nice race.
Outstanding between the top 2... it's quite a shame for Ferraris didn't join the party.
Great fight for the win between Lewis and Max. That Mercedes strategy call was a stroke of genius.

If the strategy did not work, it would have been embarrassing too. They have 1000% of the best and fastest car and losing to Red Bull would be really embarrassing. But Wolff says: Hungarian GP is the home country of Red Bull and who has always won the Mercedes for the past few years. Everything he says is like my shit on the toilet. He thinks they won because the strategy was so good and because they have the best F1 driver in the world. It is only a Mercedes, if Verstappen would have driven the then he would probably become first with 1 lap lead.
Yes totally brilliant, loved it, imagine how good it would of been without DRS though. It ruined yet another big battle.

While the Merc strategist is a genius, you gotta give it to Lewis as well. The strategist made the calculation of how many laps it will take Lewis to catch Max and overtake b4 going forward with the tyre change, but that also means that Lewis has to deliver on pace. And boy did he do it flawlessly.

Nah, RedBull's strategy was safe. Hamilton had a slightly quicker car for the race and was able to pressure Verstappen enough to really hurt him towards the end. Where their strategy failed was not having a good driver in the other car! This situation right here is why Gasly is being swapped out, they needed someone in P3 to pressure Hamilton when his car started over heating and to deny him that last pit stop.
Poor Norris those bad Pit-Stops (strategies) really drag his points down.

This race shows the essence of why Mercedes is successful , trust, an extremely talented and dependable driver in Lewis Hamilton and excellent technical team. The great drivers all display that common trait to extract more potential form themselves when under extreme pressure. Mercedes would never been able to win if they didn't believe Lewis Hamilton wouldnt be to find, that extra skill, within himself to drive at another level. I saw a real team perform during this race. Trust and talent and Hardwork.
Masterpiece strategy by Mercedes this time. Must be hard to swallow for Verstappen when leading in 68 laps.
