I think he's trying to learn. For example, in this video of his, he says not to cut curly hair wet, and not to pull on curly hair... as we know from Mell - yes but also no.... like, yeah, pay attention to curl pattern. Don't pull the strand down and then cut where you want to cut while it's weighed down... but pulling down is useful for seeing the spring, as Mell gets into, and cutting wet can help provide an even, longer lasting cut, especially if you plan on wearing your curls more straight or lengthened sometimes... It might be nice to show an “alternative curly styles” slideshow-like people who rock a curly SHORT bang, or curly mullet, etc. Hairstyles that go against the rules but still work somehow :) Love your channel!
Hey seesters, I would LOVE to see a video on "professional" hairstyles for curly hair. All too often I feel like my curls are seen as "unprofessional" and feel like I either need to wear my hair in a bun, braid, or straightened to make myself look professional :(
Hold up. The reason you (not just YOU but anyone who feels like that including me at one point in time lol) think of textured hair as being unprofessional is almost definitely due internalized white supremacy, it's basically unavoidable as an American. I mean think about it, what could possibly be unprofessional about the way your hair grows out of your head, fresh from the shower? I mean, perhaps if your mane is so enormous it's overflowing into your neighbor's cubicle that could be valid, but unless you've got an awful boss who tells you to wear it differently I say do it however you like it!
Yeah, the mentality that your natural hair or curls or even protective style is “unprofessional” is a form of discrimination and oppression. Same goes for requiring women to wear makeup at work for the sake of “professionalism” which is sexist and rooted in a gender binary. Bottom line, it’s a DEI&B issue and any hairstyle you see on straight hair, you can also wear on curly hair. Just because the texture is different, doesn’t mean it’s unprofessional ❤️
A friend & I were talking about this once. We are from 2 different ethnic backgrounds & obviously have different hair texture and curl pattern. Sometime we’d get the “that’s not professional.” Talk from someone, usually someone not in charge. We let them fly free & we got attention, in a good way. People paid a attention because they wanted to know how we kept them curly and healthy. If your workplace has no policy go for it. Sometimes adding a wide head a band can help. It draws attention to it instead of your hair until you feel more like you fit in your own hair.
Side note--my current boss is a black man and he always compliments my hair. He's the only manager I've ever had to comment on my hair aside from the woman who told me I looked better as a fake blonde rather than my natural brunette 🙄 He's also the only non-white boss I've ever had and I don't think it's a coincidence
I used your tutorial when I realized my wispy bangs were cute, but I wanted them a little heavier. My stylist did the wispy. I appreciated her doing that. We can always add more. I’ve used the principles many times. You make them easy to apply elsewhere. Not to mention to cut my bangs when I let them grow way too long. And I LOVE my bangs. Personally speaking, I think Mondo knows if he says Manes by Mell, the curlies are coming for him with tangle teasers in one hand & strong hold gel in the other. Someone needs to untangle his lies, then make sure he cannot get out of place. 😏.He might not get followers, but he gets views comments. I’ve never liked that tactic. Mell, you & Amanda have your followers because of the content, & even more so, your hearts. Yes, this is your career, but you chose it so you could help others we can get a lot of curly hair advice, but not your hearts, not with your knowledge, with your personalities, and not with your style of teaching. This comes from your heart, not just something you two do & it shows. You truly are Hair for us. I’ll never forget the one DM you sent me in reply to a question. You told me the next day you were going to post a new cut & it could work. It was the universe cut. I actually borrowed from pigtails, your unicorn & universe to get the look I wanted . wanted. I desperately need it colored & highlighted. I sent my stylist a pic. Even with bad lighting she said how healthy it was & noticed tighter curls. This is all thanks to you both. 💜
Some people like you, Mell, are saving people's curly heads. For free! Others are highly opinionated and loud even though they don't have the proper knowledge or experience. I'm thankful for you. I pretend to not see the rest.
Let’s see who would you think curly girls would believe? Guy who I don’t even know how he’s even credible with a straight hair or a PROFESSIONAL who explains everything better than anyone, also explains the science behind everything and someone who actually has a curly hair? 🤔Surprise surprise. We go with mel. You’ve helped so many curly girls! You are a blessing to the Curlies (curly girlies) we love you🥹❤️
Brad Mondo is sooooo Jealous of Mell & it's sooooo sad🤣 Any video he's done on curly hair has hundreds of comments from curlies saying he doesn't know what he's talking about so now he comes for Mell😂
His jealousy is so stupid cause by now people know his attitude and lack of knowledge when it comes to curly and kinky hair. So if he had chosen to be honest and give credit to actual professionals he could have regained followers and business with people ready to give his products a chance after seeing he was committed to be better and make good quality products. But nah, he makes petty comments and petty videos 💀
While I don’t have a curly hair specialist, and my hairdresser is mainly a barber, but she’s ALWAYS thorough with what she’s going to do with my hair before she’s cutting and gives me a loose plan of how it’s going to be cut. She ALWAYS nails it and I’m always so happy walking out!

i can’t believe someone with a missundaztood haircut is critiquing anybody with curly hair. do better. mel’s advice has saved my hair and i couldn’t be more grateful. 💕 thank you queen!
The unicorn and pigtail cuts changed my life!! One thing though is I have SO much hair that sometimes I feel like my crown is still too heavy after cutting.. any tips on removing more weight back there (on your own head)?
Brad Mondo is not an expert when it comes to curly hair. I remember that he also made a video about color analysis, very shallow unfortunately. Thank you for the videos Mellll💖 you go girl!
lol all the Brad defenders in the comments. You, Mell, are the hands-down godDESS of curly hair. I'd come to terms with mine more and more over the years, and we were doin' okay together. But then I watched just two (2!) of your videos and leveled up SO MUCH!! Ever grateful to you and gonna go search for a video from you on dusting.
Your tips are wonderful and extremely helpful. I have a daughter with tight curls, she's 3 and wild, so there is no salon anywhere near me that is experienced in curly hair and with kids. So DIY is an only option
Happy Texture Tuesday!! Can't wait to watch!! Brad mondo has no knowledge of curly hair and to be honest he's really annoying!! Much love and happiness!! Xoxo 😘
I did my bangs as mell taught me in her las video and it ended up BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS AND MARVELOUS. it lasted 1 month, then my bang decided she doesn't want to be curly but wavy but it still looks good.
You have the greatest tips i just got finished doing my bangs a little shorter and some of the sides (my longer shears have to be sharpened) & I'll wait till they come back before i do more side as i need the longer scissor. Thanks Mell, you're a miracle worker. I love watching you and of course your sisder! God Bless!
Thanks for clarifying these tips, Mell!! One tip with all the haircutting vids that I'm interested in having clarified is the whole "comb on the head to determine where to cut the bangs/front section" thing. Where do I set the comb? Hairline? Middle of my head? One inch back? Back a distance depending on the curl circumference? That one has me confused (and may be part of where the first girl you feature in this vid went wrong, what with her tiny section for her bangs), so if you could elaborate a bit/explain it a few different ways next time you do a cutting vid, I'd love that, personally!
I would actually love to see Brad bite the bullet and do that. That's such a win-win. He gets some knowledge and looks good by reaching out to someone he had previously critiqued, incorrectly, and Mell gets to spread the curly hair love and knowledge to his audience.
Mell & Amanda, your DIY videos got my hair through the pandemic. I am back with my stylist but I will still occasionally snip some curls around my face without fear thanks to you. Love all your videos! 💜🕉
I cut my bangs but they look so left out and aren't blended in with rest of my hair. I think I made all these mistakes. Can't wait till they grow back again. Such a helpful video. Thank you Mell!
I'm not a mondo fan. Especially after that last time he said something about Mell's teachings. Made me see he really doesn't know much. Knowing about one type of hair doesn't make you a professional.
I haven't had time to watch videos for awhile, but as soon as I saw Mell's pretty face, I felt better. This girl is like a sunshine tonic for a dark and dreary day! :)
Hairdressers like Brad Mondo are the reason I don't go see a "professional hairdresser" anymore! They may be experts in 'normal' person hair but they just can't admit that us curly queen's are beyond their 'expertise'
I hate drama and prefer drama free spaces, but what is his problem? The first time I just thought he was misguided now it seems deliberate. Anyway your video was a very diplomatic "response". Always keeping it classy seesters! And yes curly bangs can be wispy.
Anytime I see him and curly hair I respectfully want to say sir you're an awesome colorist, you work a straight hair canvas beautifully. We curlies have been managed by straight hairs for too long, let the curlies manage the curlies. Bless his heart, he means well.
I've been genuinely trying with my really curly hair for 7 years and sometimes it looks good and sometimes bad. I'm so tired of how much money and time it takes and I can't garentee after a three hour wash style dry it will look good. I'm planning to shave my head soon cause I'm just so tired

Just in time. I need to trim my bangs. The detail of checking how much they’ll spring up should help prevent the mistake I made last time - and accidentally ended up with baby bangs.

Hey Mell! Great video 😊 Question: is there a resource for finding curly hair specialists in specific regions? I don't have any curly friends in my area, so I would just be going off Google to find a stylist
There's lots of ways to find a curl trained stylist! If you see a curly out and about and you like their hair, ask them where they go for cuts. Check out the salon/stylists social media and book an appointment if you like their curly work. While I'm not a fan of Deva Curl products and don't follow the CGM, you could search for a level 3 Deva stylist. Many of the curly stylists that I follow online who I would consider excellent curl specialists stylists were once trained by Deva and then branched out to obtain other trainings and perfect their craft. If your town has an area Facebook page or group, ask there. But ALWAYS check the stylists social media. Loads of straight haired folks and ppl w curls that don't look good IMO like to chime in...that's harsh but it's been true in my experience.
I take this video as a sign for cutting my own bangs(I cut my own hair) but I'll wait for the summers to end cuz it's HOT here!! Thank you for making the video, Mel! You're amazing! 😻

It draws attention to it instead of your hair until you feel more like you fit in your own hair.
your curls are professional! don’t let anyone tell you otherwise
I actually borrowed from pigtails, your unicorn & universe to get the look I wanted .
wanted.
I desperately need it colored &
highlighted.
Korean curly girl here 👋🏻👋🏻 ive watched brad's videos when i didnt know my fuffy hair is actually curly and now i religiously follow mell's methods. I love brad too but watching brad's videos about curly hair feels like watching a random white guy runs a korean restaurent. He just need to admit that when it comes curly, he is not the expert.
Lol, he cannot accept he made a mistake. Despite the fact, we all with curly hair agree completely with you. He's such a toxic diva
i can’t believe someone with a missundaztood haircut is critiquing anybody with curly hair. do better. mel’s advice has saved my hair and i couldn’t be more grateful. 💕 thank you queen!
You guys have literally managed to make a middle part work on curly bangs without looking like Weird Al, I am baffled by Brad's comment.
Hasn’t his “expertise” been debunked before? You’re really the only person I trust when it comes to the curly gorls
The unicorn and pigtail cuts changed my life!! One thing though is I have SO much hair that sometimes I feel like my crown is still too heavy after cutting.. any tips on removing more weight back there (on your own head)?
I have that same issue.
Brad seems the type of stylist that would straighten your curly hair to “fix it”
Brad Mondo is not an expert when it comes to curly hair. I remember that he also made a video about color analysis, very shallow unfortunately. Thank you for the videos Mellll💖 you go girl!
I do not trust Brad Mondo with hair at all tbh. ESPECIALLY after finding out no one can find his portfolio anywhere 🤔🤔🤔
lol all the Brad defenders in the comments.
Bloody hell you are literally too gorgeous, Mell. Your curly hair looks so awesome ❤️❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍
God Bless!
High class clap back 👏👏👏
This is pretty off topic but I am still obsessing over your hair color 😍😍 It’s so pretty !!
The grow out phase hairstyles made me feel sooooo confident
Bradwrongtho
😂Good 1
Google offered to "Translate to English"😆
OWWWWWWWWWW SNAP
😂
Thanks for clarifying these tips, Mell!! One tip with all the haircutting vids that I'm interested in having clarified is the whole "comb on the head to determine where to cut the bangs/front section" thing. Where do I set the comb? Hairline? Middle of my head? One inch back? Back a distance depending on the curl circumference? That one has me confused (and may be part of where the first girl you feature in this vid went wrong, what with her tiny section for her bangs), so if you could elaborate a bit/explain it a few different ways next time you do a cutting vid, I'd love that, personally!
I got curly bangs last year and have been loving it since
A good collab would be Mell teaching Brad about Curly hair
I would actually love to see Brad bite the bullet and do that. That's such a win-win. He gets some knowledge and looks good by reaching out to someone he had previously critiqued, incorrectly, and Mell gets to spread the curly hair love and knowledge to his audience.
Mell & Amanda, your DIY videos got my hair through the pandemic. I am back with my stylist but I will still occasionally snip some curls around my face without fear thanks to you. Love all your videos! 💜🕉
Thank you so much for this video. I am keeping my bangs now!!!
I cut my bangs but they look so left out and aren't blended in with rest of my hair. I think I made all these mistakes. Can't wait till they grow back again.
Such a helpful video. Thank you Mell!
In a Rachel voice “no curls, no opinion”
Can you guess which scene😇 manesbymell fan but also a big friends fan🙈
Hmm I said her actual quote a few weeks ago! (Not uterus, no opinion) :)
Love this comment Melinda LOL
HAHAHAH thats funny "no curls no opinion"😹😹😹😹🤣🤣🤣
Brown hair suits you so well - you look stunning!
Mell, this was so fun to watch! I do my own hair as well & theres nothing like taking control of your curls! 💜
Mel, you are a QUEEN. Dont let anyone tell you otherwise.
*gripping my stylist by the shirt* are you calculating my spring factor?
HAHAHA
omg that's me in the first clip i have learned from my mistakes now LMAO i love ur videos!!
Ive always cut my own hair (wrongly 😂) Ever since I came across this channel I’ve continued to do it, and ALL the tips that ✨Mel✨ gives have NEVER failed. She actually EXPLAINS what to do and more importantly WHY. Also, makes a lot of sense. You have to know what and why you’re doing and definitely my hair has never looked better. 🤍 Thanks Momma Mel 🤍
Happy Texture Tuesday!! This is the quickest I have ever clicked on a video!!!! Let’s see what Mr. Mondo has to say now 😂
Same!
I cut the top layer of one side of my layers too short a while back. It doesn’t look bad but how would I fix it in the future?
THANK YOU for saying “pun INTENDED!” 😂 huuuuge pet peeve of mine when people *clearly* intend the pun and say it’s not! You win. 🤓
I just want Mel to come cut my hair! Trying to find a stylist who has wavy/textured hair experience that actually has an opening is brutal.
Sat waiting thinking why haven't you started yet???? its 7.00pm in the UK 😭😭 see ya soon x
omg thank you for watching
Amanda's looking bangin with bangs 🤣🥰🥰 💁♀️
Just in time. I need to trim my bangs. The detail of checking how much they’ll spring up should help prevent the mistake I made last time - and accidentally ended up with baby bangs.
Hi Mel! U always look great! I really like your hair on the darker side! Happy New Year to you all!
I saw one Brad Mondo video where he said that no matter how long your hair is, you only need to use a quarter size amount of shampoo. 🤦♀️
shampoo belongs on the scalp/root area not into the lengths therefore: yes, no matter how long your hair is you only need walnut size of shampoo (i m not from the US i dont know how big a quarter is 😅 but walnut is whats beeing told were i live)
Not him trying to come for you again lol. I think he knows more about other hair types. Mine is kinky curly. I cut my hair to make bangs with your video, they came out great when I styled. So your video was very informative.
I love bangs even if they can be pretty difficult, thank you for making this video
Dang, I‘ma continue watching both channels. Brad never said he’s an expert or very versed on curls and Mel is clearly an expert when it comes to curls. 🤷🏿♀️
@@AshleeUnfiltered thank you!
Brad is sooo obsessed with you
I live for the ending of each of your videos. (And not because they’ve ended 😢) They’re hilarious 😆
I take this video as a sign for cutting my own bangs(I cut my own hair) but I'll wait for the summers to end cuz it's HOT here!! Thank you for making the video, Mel! You're amazing! 😻
Xena will always beat Hercules, and Manes by Mell will always beat Brad Mondo. #facts 😘
i LOVE u, mell, & I Love Brad. its one thing to simply be different & acknowledge that but know that thats okay & move on. when people i love hate on people i love its a quick way to lose me. :( Its ok that he specifies in dying\bleaching & you CLEARLY are strong in Curly hair care! vs just "hair care" which we ALL now know thousands of yrs later NEVER INCLUDED CURLY HAIR! id rather see you two focus in on where youre strong, similar.
Lifestyle is very important! I didn't take it into consideration when I cut my bangs. They turned out fine but it is the beginning of summer and I live on the Texas Gulf Coast...they get pinned back a lot. Maybe I'll try again when it cools off some in November.
Yesssss! The video I needed! My bangs need a good trim! Thanks, Mell!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I cut my curly fringe(bangs) in February and I was finding stragglers for like a month so don't feel bad if you're the same 😂
I was afraid to do my hair at home but I think I'm ready
i realllyyyy needed this!! ive been wanting to frame my face better bc my hair is literally all one length and looks very sad. dont know any curly hairdressers so im resorting to DIY :D
We love Mell and her advice! Bye, haters!
Such a "Brad" lol he has issues. Love ya Mel ♥️
You share amazing information! I believe you just talked me into bangs.
Really enjoyed this one. Thanks Mel! Off to search for a grow out video.
I’ve even had my bangs fucked up by a professional and had to go in and fix it according to your tutorial. Soooooo…. What’s the shade with him? Cuz you have and know how to manage curly hair…. Chiiiile… anyways…. I love you Mel.
Haha, WE LOVE YOU MEL, (AND SEEESTER TOOO!!!)♡
So unrelated but, you litterally are so gorgeous (msa) and i love your videos!! I used 2 have a second grade teacher who would tell me that whenver she sees me she remembers a youtuber named "Manes By Mell" I didnt know who you were but here i am watching your videos instead of washing my hair after 3 weeks 😂
But damn, why does your hair look so cute🥲🥲, no really the half pony looks so good😁
Ha what good tips! I just had my bangs done as well thanks to your inspo
Brad mondo is so annoying. He literally has no knowledge of curly hair yet he always seems to have an opinion
Agree!!
He needs to stay away from curly hair
He's also very against long hair for some reason, and I hate how he doesn't seem to care what the person whose hair it is wants
Can’t stand him
If you criticize his lack of curly hair knowledge he will take that as people accusing him of not being a professional hairstylist
Do you guys remember the “Friends” episode where Rachel says : No uterus,no opinion!!! 😂😂😂😂 You got the message, right , Brad🙄🙄🙄🙄😂😂😂😂
HAPPY TEXTURE TUESDAY ❤️❤️❤️
HAPPY TEXTURE TUESDAY LYNZI
What type of bangs do you have? I would love to get something similar but im not sure jf they would be considered full bangs or curtain bangs?
I’m beginning to feel that Brad is stalking you lol
Thank you so much 💕💕💕💕I love your channel 😭💕
I'm so ready for a cut ✂️
Saaaaame! I had one scheduled for last week, but my stylist got sick and now I have to wait 2 more weeks! 🤷🏻♀️
