I've not seen you both sat together before, it was good to hear your your good lady wife's voice equal to yours, good reaction video. The difference in colour between the UK and US versions will be due to colourings which are banned in the EU/UK (the yellows, reds and oranges are the worst offenders usually), but good to see you both together and discussing your thoughts and preferences :)
It's all about preservatives and flavourings. In the UK preservatives are banned on many foods and in theory should be healthier without so many E numbers.
Check to see if the American version has carcinogenic chemicals . Most foods in the US contain EU banned chemicals in them which is why they're not sold over here.
I'm enjoying these comparison videos, thanks both! This one tied into my feelings when I go to the US: the food generally in the USA has much more seasoning (usually salt and addatives). I suspect (just a guess) that it's partly because people in the US eat out at restaurants/fast food chains much more than in the UK, and restaurants tend to use more seasoning than home cooks. The more used to salt your pallet becomes, the more you increase the salt in other things to get that salty hit, until the general flavour is much saltier. And in snack foods, of course. I cook 90% of my own meals in the UK so sometimes struggle with how salty (and sweet, the US seems to put a lot of sugar into foods that normally don't contain it) the food is in the USA. Not saying it's bad or worse per say, just different.
When you snap the crisp it reminds me of Paul Hollywood on Great British Bake Off! Do you like Bake Off? Video of your thoughts on different British TV programmes?!
The first time I ate Doritos I thought someone had glued the roof of my mouth to my tongue, whilst the flavourings burned a direct path to the top of my head. I must have a pint of water afterwards, followed by several cups of milk, but this did nothing to stop the thirst and the itchiness. Thinking they might be milder, I’ve had the cheese ones since but they taste like stewed, worn socks and smelt like compost, the home made variety a couple of weeks into the process. It’s not the first time I’ve succumbed to a supermarket special offer (free dips) and it won’t be the last I expect when the memory of self-inflicted food poisoning is a distant memory. People are urging you to compare Hershey’s with Cadbury’s. Oh dear. Cadbury’s chocolate is no longer the chocolate of my childhood, savoured square by square in front of the Morecambe and Wise Xmas show. It’s verging on an essential dental checkup needed with every bite nowadays. (Kraft bought Cadbury’s ten years ago and promised not to change the recipe….) The creaminess is but a distant memory too and the sugar content makes kids energy levels compete with Duracell bunnies. However, unlike Hershey’s, Cadbury’s doesn’t taste like it’s been buried underground for a couple of hundred years, dug up and then wrapped in silver foil for your delectation. Friends and colleagues bring Hershey’s back from their holidays urging people to try them. Usually, free food disappears like lightning in offices. Yet Hershey’s remain. Maybe it’s the ultimate in recycling and they return to the ground beneath us intact for another few hundred years only to reappear for resale. The ultimate Halloween chocolate. (In the middle of this video, RUclips showed an advert featuring the lifecycle of ants, complete with grubs, doing that rolling hip hop floor move in a larval tunnel. Then they went back to Mac biting into a Dorito.)
Chips are long chunks or CHIPS of potato , fried & can be served with fish & mushy peas. Crisps are thin slices/shavings of potato, fried, salted & flavour added.. They're very CRISP & crunchy to eat! Crisps are too thin & crispy to be chips! Fries? They're just French!! 😆 🇬🇧🇺🇸
It's a shame you can't do McDonald's or Burger King, KFC etc, I'm sure when i went to Vegas the 1st time the whoppers at Burger King were twice the size as the UK ones!!!, also the large drink you got was like a gallon it was crazy. Also i read a newspaper article about the amount of salt on the chips or as our US brothers and sisters would say French fries at McDonald's, I think the US and Spain had the highest levels of salt, the UK near the bottom of the list, and I remember i had some in Spain and me and my partner could immediately tell there was so much more salt on them than over here in the UK. Keep up the good work 👍
Mac/Blair, I love your approach to life and letting us see your family life!! It is easy to see that you two are in love after many years together. No kids for the evening and you spend your time comparing snacks!! A truly contented, happy couple :)) :))
Fun Fact: Doritos were invented by a Disneyland restaurant so they wouldn't have throw away old tortillas. The original was unflavored, and the Nacho Cheese we have now was the 2nd flavored version after Taco.
I've never really understood what the flavour 'cool original' is supposed to be but it makes sense that it's ranch flavour! You see ranch here more now but it wouldn't have been popular when cool original was launched
I think of food as I think of the weather. You get used to the local atmosphere. Or tastemosphere in this case. Tongues aren't spherical but you get the idea. :-)
I think the only place I've seen Ranch served here in the UK is in subway. I am not a fan though I've tried it a few times to make sure and it's ok on a steak sub but it's not my top choice. I think it's the flavour of dill and too much onion/garlic combined the weird tangy sourness from the buttermilk or sour cream they use.
Hello and thanks. Have you done this with chocolate yet? I know you have Hersheys and we have cadburys and they seem very different. Also I think all sweets are called candy? More importantly you have a wonderful polite respectful family and are most welcome. Thank you - keep you videos rolling I know many people watch these from the USA and the UK. Best Gray PS love that you call these chips and we call them crisps.
Sadly Cadbury’s has changed over the last ten years. Especially the last three years. It seems to have a higher melting point so doesn’t have such a smooth mouth feel. Although less chocolate smeared fingertips is good. The type of vegetable/seed/nut oil used has changed too.
Ive noticed before during my trips to the states everything is very heavily seasoned. Often too much so. I think with food sometimes less is more. That being said there are plenty of things from the states that i think are a step above their UK counterparts.
Very interesting to hear your comparisons of the flavour of Uk crisps to USA chips. Something I tried lately were Takis I have only seen them in American RUclips videos. They were too strong in flavour really intense. My son would usually eat a strong tasting crisp but he didn’t like them. Also my partner who can can take chilli didn’t like them I had to end up putting them in the bin! I think the flavour was chilli and lime a purple packet I think😖
That was another interesting video. I can’t eat any snacks with too much flavouring because it gives me a raging thirst. Sometimes I eat something and it’s really tasty then later I have to drink lots of water. Occasionally I can’t sleep because I’m so thirsty and I have to get up in the night to brush my teeth and have a drink of water. Sadly Walkers Cheese and Onion crisps which I love have this affect so I have to avoid them. There are others too! I enjoy it when I eat them but the price I pay is too high! 😟 Thanks for sharing.
When I was living in the US I did notice that garlic was super popular. Made the mistake of buying garlic frys at a football game. Must have gone through 2 gallons of mouthwash!
I really didn't like US pringles, they seemed very soft, great flavour but the texture didn't appeal to me as a brit, our pringles seem a lot sturdier and crunchier
Spicy in the UK is a strange thing. Supermarket 'hot n spicy' is pretty mild if you like authentic Tex/Mex. Anyway, I much prefer your cultural experiences (I guess eating Doritos is...) Love to see you guys and the kids try a British pub for say a Sunday Roast. That's culturally more similar to your Portuguese dining experience than to any US type pub experience. Kids are usually welcomed in most pubs when dining (you'd probably have to check first).
Yeah we don’t tend to tolerate a lot of spice And honestly I think having a kinder heat tends to work better anyway I don’t understand people who choose to eat extremely spicy stuff like what are you getting from that? Pain? Spice should enhance a natural flavour give it some satisfying kick but don’t take away from the experience of eating the food
Prawn cocktail is the 1970’s and bbq is eternal they can’t be compared. I have tried lays and walkers and in my personal opinion lays wins hands down with paprika lays I find are more greasy and oily but that’s my personal opinion and not 💯 accurate with demographics
The American doritos definitely caters more to the Mexican population in the US because they're the biggest hispanic minority population their and they're known for liking hot and spicy foods which majority of their foods are but in the UK it's milder on the spices because hispanics in general aren't one of our bigger minority groups it's more South West Asians ie Indian's, Bangladeshi s, Pakistanis and Sri Lankans and of course the South East ones (oriental Asians) as well as other's
As with all food, America health care is a business so food can contain anything as unhealthy diets are better for big pharma. In uk healthcares nationalised so many additives are banned to stop diseases
Love the dog picture Notice the USA bags always look bigger , do the weigh the same or is it a packaging thing ? Can’t make the Landrover show at Stoneley , but check out Powerfull Uk stand . He is a good guy and a fellow U-tuber 😎😎😎
I am really not quite sure why I enjoy these comparison video's ... but they are really interesting and great fun. Well done and thank you x

I believe you have become far to British, you are indulging in one of our favourite past times known here as stuffing your face, well done you
The one with hint of lime is good for dipping, etc
Check to see if the American version has carcinogenic chemicals . Most foods in the US contain EU banned chemicals in them which is why they're not sold over here.

The bake off is a good show.
Might sound silly but maybe compare a british Sunday roast to thanksgiving dinner or christmas dinner US/UK
Food Insider looks at the differences between Uk vs US, fast food restaurants, Doritos, Cereals among other things.
what flavour is "Ranch"? never seen in the shops here in the UK. TBH I don't eat American imports due to the amount of chemicals that are in them.
It is really hard to discribe.... 🤔🤔🤔 super tangy mayo.

I wouldn't be able to judge ranch sauce, but if it cool original I have something to go off 🤣
Interesting fact, many top American candy and snacks are British origin… skittles, twix, Kit Kat , starburst
Hi, excellent video. I would add that the BS plug has an in line fuse of 3, 5 or 13 amps in the live circuit.
Fun Fact: Doritos were invented by a Disneyland restaurant so they wouldn't have throw away old tortillas. The original was unflavored, and the Nacho Cheese we have now was the 2nd flavored version after Taco.
Nice.
If you want a hand finishing those off let me know! 😀

Hello Mac and Blair ,I missed all of you ... or should I say... 'I missed y'all' :P, sending much love
Thanks Brother and Sister N Love for the Comparison Enjoy the Content.
No idea what ranch flavour is
Long time since I have eaten Doritos. There was a delicious limited edition of two flavours in one bag bbq and lemon
I like the plain salted ones. We do call them chips in the UK. They are tortillas chips.
I think of food as I think of the weather. You get used to the local atmosphere. Or tastemosphere in this case. Tongues aren't spherical but you get the idea. :-)
I do get the idea.

Chilli heatwave Doritos are the goat hands down
🐐
I've heard of Ranch but not seen it over here...

Loved this ! A British biscuit video ( involving the bra no Borders) would be fun :)
Please tell us what is the main flavour of "ranch", as I don’t think many things in the UK are described as Ranch 🙂
How to described ranch... 🤔🤔
I can’t think of anything called Ranch over here in UK? 🤔
I’ve heard of Ranch dressing @Subway I think 🤔
Creamy garlic and herbs

Its the salt that saturates your appetite faster. Check the salt levels in each bag?

Really enjoyed these taste test, think you did them in the wrong order though, should have been cool, tangy cheese then chilli, 🏴😃
Ranch is NOT a thing in the UK.
You should have got a tub of Salsa Sauce to dip them in !
When I was living in the US I did notice that garlic was super popular. Made the mistake of buying garlic frys at a football game. Must have gone through 2 gallons of mouthwash!
🧄🧄🧄🧄🧄
What kind of flavour is ranch anyhow? Like beef flavour or something?
It is really hard to discribe.... 🤔🤔🤔 super tangy mayo.
Nah they don't do Ranch over here in London UK, that's more for your Country, the ranch is way to Salty.
I really didn't like US pringles, they seemed very soft, great flavour but the texture didn't appeal to me as a brit, our pringles seem a lot sturdier and crunchier

Yeah we don’t tend to tolerate a lot of spice
And honestly I think having a kinder heat tends to work better anyway
I don’t understand people who choose to eat extremely spicy stuff like what are you getting from that? Pain?
Spice should enhance a natural flavour give it some satisfying kick but don’t take away from the experience of eating the food
I think the sweet chilli purple ones? ( from us) are more like our chilli ones in uk . Tried them all in Florida.
I buy the multi pack Doritos (Cheese and the chilli heat wave) and seem to have more colour and flavour than the big packs you had.
Probably just because the extra space means it doesn’t stay on as easily
Where can you buy US doritos in the UK? There is a 210g packet on Amazon for £25......I think not!
That is too much! Check Amazon...
Everything is bigger and bolder in general in the US 😂😂😂🤷🏾♂️
No guys, not a "crisp", they are made from potatoes. Doritos are chips.
Thanks for the clarification. 👍🏾
Instant coffee??????
Good suggestion
@@MacandBlair Good...At home The instant coffee I drink is Nescafe gold.....
The Spicy ones use to be much spicier, burn your mouth off spicy, they've toned them down a bit in recent years

WHY YOU NOT GOT THE DIP THAT COMES WITH THEM? THE HOT SPICY OR MEDIUM MMMMM YOUR MISSING A GREAT TASTE, VERY ADDICTIVE TOO, LOL
How do you live past your teens with all the additives in your food
As with all food, America health care is a business so food can contain anything as unhealthy diets are better for big pharma. In uk healthcares nationalised so many additives are banned to stop diseases

👍🏾 US bags were heavier... almost twice as many chips.
Not me finding Chilli heat wave too hot and intense to eat 💀
I understand....
We don’t like a lot of spicy 🌶 foods we have quite a mild palette us brits 😂🇬🇧
I mean is it that bad to have a milder heat and to taste the food
What’s the joy in burning your taste buds and not getting any if the actual flavour
Be honest, this was just an excuse to snack on Doritos, wasn't it? :D
🤫🤫🤫
I don’t think ranch flavour is a thing here in Uk 🇬🇧
👌🏻💪🏻👏🏻✊🏻🙏🏻
👍🏾
I wouldn’t want children to have the US versions,. Cut the artificial stuff and make a healthier snack
