  • I made a TOY folding Glock 17. It is full size and uses standard Glock hardware. Pretty cool stuff, but this iteration is not quite ready for release.

    I was one of the engineers at Full Conceal that developed the folding glock back in 2017. You did a great job! I like how you used a thinner catch for the grip and cantilevers at the mag plate to secure it in a folded position. You did a similar thing as us using a torsion spring for the trigger to have it fold up and that really warmed my heart. Thank you for shouting us out! Mike and everyone there were great guys to work with and you helped me relive some very fond memories!

      @@DesignPrototypeTest We were a small team of 10 with a few of us assembling full time and sometimes we'd be all hands including engineers, CNC operators, and sales on assembling so sales seemed pretty strong for our small team. That's just what I saw in 2018 when I left due to health issues from a previous job so things could've slowed down. Kind of embarrassed to admit I've been a hermit ever since and haven't kept in touch so I don't know what happened. At the time we were modifying gen 3 glock 19s and having conversations about injection molding our own frames so I wonder which route the team took and if that plus 2020 is what made things unsustainable.

  • @ktinga1
    @ktinga1 13 дней назад +15

    So, that blade safety on the trigger isnt just to stop the trigger from being pulled incidentally. Its an inherent component to the drop safety mechanism of a Glock, and a major contributing factor to the M17 drop safety debacle. Your method of trigger actuation may be drop safe when folded because of the low mass of the actual "trigger" nub, but it could be something to consider when unfolded.

    • @DesignPrototypeTest
      @DesignPrototypeTest  13 дней назад +9

      This is a fantastic point. You've educated me today. Thank you! I will endeavor to put a Small piece of geometry in the handle that will prevent the trigger from moving rearward in a drop scenario when it is in the folded position.

    • @ktinga1
      @ktinga1 13 дней назад +4

      @@DesignPrototypeTest Hey, a second pair of eyes and ears rarely hurts!
      I'd be more worried about the toy being open though. Locking the trigger nub when closed is a good idea too, but considering the most likely drop scenario is either fully open or mid opening, where the extra weight of the actual "trigger" is at play, that would be my main concern. You just don't want to have enough mass to overcome the sear through inertia when dropped, and that's what the blade safety stops. So perhaps trying to both lock it in place when closed, and also have a Smith & Wesson style hinged trigger system since it folds anyway? Maybe you could have the trigger and nub permanently connected through a pivot somehow (if that doesn't violate any patents) so that the top of the trigger acts as a physical block against the frame when folded, and when deployed still requires a small hinge motion to overcome a small shelf that would stop the trigger otherwise that way? Because the way the safety works is by both a) having a much lower mass than the rest of the trigger and transfer bar, which means it takes a LOT more of a sudden impact to move, and b) moving on a different axis to the rest of the trigger, so that a straight back jolt won't overcome it anyway. If you look at the trigger on both the S&W Sigma/SW9 and the M&P 1.0, you'll see what I'm talking about. And maybe you could incorporate a forward hinge in as well, with the pivot closer to the top of the trigger, and an ear on either side to fold back and impinge on the frame when folded. (Obligatory "I'm no engineer, just a rando on Al's Internet")

  • @TABLESAWTIM
    @TABLESAWTIM 19 дней назад +7

    The locking catchment probably needs to be wide & progressive (more ratchet points to land in) with redundancy. If not a wide catchment, a twin catchment, with one longer than the other, to prevent fully delatching. It needs to be like a vehicle hood latch. If this device could fire a cartridge, most likely there would be thumb web pinching per cartridge. An outer rubber grip, slightly masking/shadowing the adjoining parts would work. Nice toy. At some point I will hear one growing in the other room. Thank you, Tim

So basically, it would still function as a mag release when pressed, but only when the opposite side button is pressed in combination will initiate the fold for the gun. Just an idea! Have you looked into a vielight device for preventing clots. The basic model is a intranasal red light used to break up clotting red blood cells and oxygenate the blood. They also have other applicators like blue light for preventing bacterial growth and infrared for deeper penetration. But you may be able to reduce the amount of blood thinners by using the device.

    well.. im sold, next frame i make is gonna be a g19 folder

    • @DesignPrototypeTest
      @DesignPrototypeTest  23 дня назад +3

      I don't think I will make a Glock 19 version. With the G17 you get a full length handle and it lines up perfectly when folded. A G19 is 3/4" shorter in the slide. Therefore, the handle will need to be 3/4" shorter as well. Thus chopping off about half of the pinky finger portion of the grip. It would be very awkward to hold with your pinky half on the grip. A G26 or G43 is even more compact (concealable) with shorter slides than a G19. The length of these is such that a folding version would have the handle missing the entire pinky finger portion of the grip. The pinky would come to rest on the magazine which is far less awkward.

    I hate the term Ghost Gun, a Ghost Gun is any unregistered gun, including ones that had their serial illegally removed.
    This is a cool gun concept though.

    • @DesignPrototypeTest
      @DesignPrototypeTest  2 дня назад

      Yankee Doodle is an incredibly insulting song about Americans. It is the state song of Connecticut. Before Game of thrones sucked Tyrion Lannister gave John Snow a lecture about embracing and proudly being the pejorative that people will call you. Like those descendants of African slaves in our country who call each other that word that white people aren't allowed to say.
      The only way to transcend emotionally charged language like "ghost gun" is to make it a joke and apply it to toys. Make the word lose all meaning.
      Kind of like "Liberal." Which shares a common origin to words which mean freedom. Liberate the slaves. Libertarian. Liberty, etc. and yet somehow liberal is the name we give to people who want to take away the freedom to bear arms.
      You are correct. There is no such thing as a ghost gun. Which just means that the term can be used to describe anything. I had a hot dog for lunch which didn't have a serial number on it: Ghost Gun.

  • @gabe8168

    maybe the grip can have a slider on the back of it with some resistance on it, like from a spring. so you can slide it down to fold the grip instead of the current mechanism inside of the grip. the slider can have ridges to make it easier to slide down and fold the grip back.

    • @DesignPrototypeTest
