I really liked that Khotun Khan was clearly a reflection of how the Mongols actually were. I was expecting Sucker Punch to just portray him as just another mindless barbarian out to loot and burn. But it seems like they did their research. Khotun was strong and a vicious fighter, yes. But more than that, he was cunning, ruthless, and a brilliant manipulator. He knew how to read people, he understood his enemy, their tactics, how to predict their next move, he knew how to adapt to the unexpected elements, such as the Ghost.
A proper reflection of the actual Mongol Empire. Contrary to popular belief, the Mongols did not win just because of superior numbers or superior troops. Often times, they were outnumbered by their enemies and their troops not as well trained or equipped. They won, instead, through superior tactical and strategic planning, effective use of espionage to understand their enemies and subterfuge to cause chaos and confusion prior to an invasion, manipulation to divide their enemies against one another and of course adaptability to their enemy's tactics. Khotun exemplified everything that made the Mongol Empire so successful. Stupid people don't conquer most of the known world.

I love how human they made him. I was worried he would just be a two dimensional villain, but he is so intelligent and charismatic, and offers his enemies mercy when he can. He's the villain, but he has his own sense of honor. In general, I find the Mongol Empire really interesting, in how tolerant they were and how they promoted based on merit rather than blood.

I would say Khotun Khan in this story is a open-minded character, which is opposite of the spirit of Samurai in the story - hard as steel, but rather die than change.
In history of the real world we all know the force of Tsushima had no matched to Mongol, Mongol can just take down forces in Tsushima easily and slaughter - In fact they did.
Sucker punch has made up this part of story and make it much more better than tragic in the real world.

    • @whynottalklikeapirat
      @whynottalklikeapirat Год назад

Everytime someone has to rise to a different occasion or do something not in line with what they usually do, there’ll be some guy going “this is how they REALLY are!!!”. alcohol showed it, drugs showed it, being betrayed showed it, terminal illness showed it, losing someone showed it, deep diving showed it, war showed it etc …
You know - maybe the self is not some hidden core essence or isolated mental island secretly detached from all superficial context, and just unfortunately covered by the jungle of everyday life. Maybe the self is plastic, multiple and contingent. Maybe it’s a vulnerable process of mind. Maybe war more likely has the capacity to burn out and destroy the sense of self. Maybe it can restrain a persons available avenues of growth just as it can irreparably impact the body in both visible and invisile ways. Maybe the experience of war can reduce a person to their most primitive sense of self or the worst version. Maybe war can make you a different person and one you might not necessarily sympathise with, as viewed from different circumstances.
Are we to assume that by virtue of war a shell shock victim is somehow showcased as “who they truly are”? Are we to assume that soldiers who cannot sustain the normal family life they used to due to severe PTSD are some truer version of themselves, honed and brought to the fore by the illuminating process of war? Are we to believe that bravery and sacrifice comes at no cost to self? Are we to conclude that severe to unbearable stress and strain on the body and mind somehow brings about some sort of more consistent truth or does it simply create new phenomena? Are we supposed to believe that it is the experience of war above everything else that somehow brings out a persons full potential, simply by adding enough horror and pain and a need for desperate commitment?

Doubtful. Similar to this game, I think they're going to use another composite character similar to Khotun to lead the Mongols for the second invasion. The thing with Kublai is that while he was interested in Japanese conquest, he never actually threatened to destroy the Japanese or their people. And considering that Kublai is considered something of one of the greater Khan leaders as well as one of the best Chinese emperors I doubt he'll be directly involved in the sequels.

Considering the mongolians crossed the Altai mountains to invade their neigbours I assume the alps wouldn’t be to much of a problem, as for Britain, France and Spain, these weren’t the strongest powers in Europe at the time, after Poland, Hungary and the Kievan Rus federation were decisively defeated all of Europe was basically at the mercy of the Mongols in terms of military strength
I don’t know if the Mongols would’ve successfully invaded Britain judging from their faliure in Japan though
Due to Geogoraphy and nature of Europe at the time the Mongolian method of war would’ve been near impossible due to the lack of open steppes and plains but then again the Mongolians showed in previous history that they were highly adaptable
Both sides have good arguements but the Mongols had a reasonable chance at conquering Europe, it would probably be one of hardest nuts to crack for them especially in their fragmented state

I honestly respected Khotun especially after reading Conversations With The Khan (1-11). He was brutal, Intelligent, Intriguing, but most of all he was human. He was a great leader and villain. I’ll end this with the last sentence from Conversations With The Khan 11: "Truly, the proud do not last, and the mightiest of us perish like dust before the wind."

To you reading this, Jesus can help with whatever problems and hardships you have. Believe in him and what he has done on the cross for your salvation. You can not save yourself he came to save us. Turn from your sins repent which is the act of changing your life to follow the way of God and not your way, your way will lead you into a pit to hell I know it, my way had lead me in to a pit going straight hell, but Jesus rescued me and he can rescue you. He can grant peace and joy unfelt, and be your closest friend always there, here's the gospel
Jesus Christ, son of God, sacrificed his life for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day. After he went to his tweleve disciples and many others before ascending into heaven eternally triumphant over all his enemies and making it so that there is now no condemnation for sin to all those who believe in him, but only everlasting joy. John 3:16

Wasted villain. Put fanboyism aside. He captures Jin does nothing....let's him go. Captures uncle daddy ...does nothing...let's him get away. Possesses no real combat challenge from any other fight in game. Once it's evident it's over....he fucking runs. Final fight is by the numbers. They either ran outta time or had no vision. Maybe kubla khan in a sequel will be better. This guy was just all talk. I was most hyped to fight a fucking Khan.... and it was nothing.

Doubt they’ll use Kublai in the sequel. They’ll probably have another relative of the Khan take the stage, probably someone even more dangerous and cunning than Khotun.
