  • in this video, we cover people-led evaluation and photo voice, their key features, and how to use them.
Key features of people-led evaluation include:
    1. Participatory Approach: People-led evaluation places a strong emphasis on participation, collaboration, and co-creation, involving stakeholders at all stages of the evaluation process, from planning and design to data collection, analysis, and decision-making.
    2. Empowerment and Ownership: People-led evaluation seeks to empower individuals and communities by valuing their knowledge, expertise, and lived experiences. It aims to shift the power dynamics inherent in traditional evaluation approaches and promote ownership of the evaluation process and outcomes among stakeholders.
    3. Inclusive and Diversity: People-led evaluation values diversity, inclusivity, and equity, ensuring that the voices of marginalized or underrepresented groups are heard and respected. It actively seeks to amplify the perspectives of those who may have been historically excluded or marginalized in evaluation processes.
    4. Contextual Relevance: People-led evaluation recognizes the importance of context and culture in shaping evaluation priorities and methodologies. It tailors evaluation approaches to the specific needs, preferences, and cultural norms of the individuals or communities being evaluated, ensuring that evaluation findings are relevant and meaningful.
    5. Capacity Building: People-led evaluation prioritizes capacity building and skill development among stakeholders, equipping them with the knowledge, tools, and resources needed to participate meaningfully in the evaluation process.
Photo Voice: Photo voice is a participatory research method that combines photography and storytelling to empower individuals or communities to document and share their lived experiences, perspectives, and priorities. In photo voice projects, participants are provided with cameras or smartphones and encouraged to take photographs that capture aspects of their daily lives, environments, and communities that are meaningful to them. Participants then use these photographs as a basis for storytelling, reflection, and dialogue about key issues or themes of interest.
Key features of photo voice include:
    1. Visual Expression: Photo voice allows participants to use visual images as a form of expression and communication, enabling them to convey complex ideas, emotions, and experiences that may be difficult to articulate verbally.
    2. Narrative Storytelling: In addition to taking photographs, participants are encouraged to share stories, anecdotes, or captions that provide context and meaning to their images. These narratives help contextualize the photographs and provide insights into the lived experiences and perspectives of the participants.
    3. Community Engagement: Photo voice projects often involve group discussions, workshops, or exhibitions where participants can share their photographs and stories with others in their community.
    4. Empowerment and Advocacy: Photo-voice is a participatory and empowering research method that seeks to amplify the voices and perspectives of marginalized or underrepresented groups.5. Research and Evaluation:

    This is so inspiring.
Puting people at the centre of evaluation is very key.....and capacity building of beneficiaries should indeed focus on enhancing their ability to envision the kind of future they would like to live.... and use that desired future as the key pointer to determine whether any intervention in question is showing signs and outcomes shooting in the direction of their vision .....
Such people led evaluation which is vision oriented gives people more hope and zeal to press on.... and be more creative to achieve their vision....regardless of any challenges along the way......
    Thanks so much inspiring us.
    Stay blessed.
