  • We went riding Among Green Soldiers. A film about rewilding Scotland with Funn Components.
We’re excited to share with you this exciting project we’ve been working on this year. We’re passionate about the mountains, accessing the hills and understanding the places we ride. With widespread issues of biodiversity across the UK the efforts being made to revive parts of the Cairngorm back to its former self are critical to preserving the spaces we access on bikes and on foot.
A huge thanks to Ronan Dugan, an ecologist working in the Cairngorms, for sharing more about the incredible work that’s ongoing to rewild this part of Scotland and helping to highlight the climate crisis we’re currently in. While it’s a holistic approach to recovering this landscape the pioneering Scots pines play a critical role in supporting and increasing the biodiversity.
Thanks to all those involved. We’re pretty proud of this one.

Excellent. As an ecologist myself, I quite like this "rewilding" concept that is based on natural restoration & regeneration of ecosystems & the landscape. Well done Scotland!

Great work fella's. Showcasing all that's great about Scotland's fantastic landscapes and the importance of getting out in nature, enjoying and respecting it without putting yourself and others at risk.

Absolutely outstanding film, among the very best biking ones out there. Beautifully shot in that unique Scottish light and also informative about a very valuable project. As the film suggests this is a completely different biking experience and we're extremely lucky in Scotland with the access laws to be able to sample such magnificent scenery.

Fantastic to tie together the rewilding movement and mountain biking. I wonder if mountain biking will offer a revenue stream to areas that previously relied on high densities of sheep and deer or monoculture forestry?

There's definitely the potential for it. It depends on how deep bikers pockets are. There has to be options for land owners/managers to provide services to users such as parking, accommodation, bike washing, shops/cafes and in some places pay to use trails although that's a little more challenging in Scotland.

What a place….. started skiing there when I was 8, so that’s 52yrs ago….. A lot of walking back up with strangers for a lad who’s parents didn’t ski….And rewilding had started then, although I don’t know if it was ‘good’ rewilding - I was 8! There were birds being reintroduced I believe. But what I remember is the reindeer which was important then. I recall a guy called Utsie and I’ve just Googled and his name was Mikel Utsie and they started in 1952, 12 years earlier. I loved going to watch them being fed which was all very carefully managed. Rewilding after the last record was from 800yrs before. Visit www.cairngormreindeer.co.uk/history-of-the-herd/
Thanks for reminding me and getting me to think this through more constructively 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
