Great video! I soon bought a cheap 3D-printed handgrip for my M2, and it improves the ergonomics a ton. You no longer need all that clamping force in your hand to hold the camera.
The rewind is great. Spin the camera as you turn the rewind knob and you can half the number of turns. Don't leave the rewind without a finger on it to stop it running free. Speed up your film loading by having a second spool already attached to a film. Then load the empty spool in a quiet moment. Use a neck strap so that you can let go of the camera when changing film or lenses. The M3 is a much better camera as it has a x0.91 viewfinder. I use mine with a 35mm lens using the standard 50mm frame, plus the outside of the frame. A 35mm lens is what's needed to contain the image content of a square 80mm medium format image from the same position. 50mm is much too tight for that comparison. ATB.
Awesome video. I just got the same version of the M2 as you (button rewind and no self-timer) and I'm loving it so far. Makes me want to take it out and shoot.
Very nice. I have an M2 and M3, and prefer the feel of the M2. The rewind know is nicer than the M4 or M6. It needs about 60 semi turns to rewind a 36 exposure film.
New follower here. The M2 is a great body for shooting 35mm focal length. The rewind knob is the same as on the MP so it's not really an "outdated design" as it is personal preference. I wish my film cameras could be unloaded faster at times but hey, when you shoot film, you should have all the time in the world. So the shots you end up missing also become part of the film shooting experience. Cheers!
I think i'm starting to really appreciate the slow process of replacing film its just sometimes I want to get it out quicker because i'm in good lighting situations but what is meant to be will be. Thanks for the follow!
For my M2 I use a Doomo cold shoe meter. It has a 30 degree sensitivity and better than the TT Artisan version which has a 45 degree sensitivity. I also have an MP and the Doomo meters exactly the same as the MP. I bought the quick rewind for my MP and it scratched the body and went to the bin. Don't do that! The MP has frame lines for 28mm and the M2 starts at 35mm. I love them both but there is something special about using a 60 year old camera- like driving a classic car. Enjoy!
The rewind crank was made specifically like that because engineering wise it is stronger, one straight piece, the change to the angled version on later models was a compromise for Leica to give faster winding at the expense of highest engineering strength and simplicity, ie number of parts.
It’s tempting to think the rewind knob goes directly into the film canister, but you’ll see it’s offset to one side relative to the canister, so it definitely involves gears or a linkage.
Great video. I have same early model! One thing! Don't fit strapp to one lug! It can wear and pull out! Note our shutter slightly different. Smaller in hight. No more parts.. I lost rewind button.. None available. Enjoy!
nice video, I also own a M2 and I like the camera very much. The Voigtländer is a great lens, yes it’s not a Leica lens, but it performs very well. My M2 is from my birthyear 😊
Do keep and lern to live with the rewind thing or have it looked at. I have an M10 and it's the same look and feel. I wouldn't have it any other way. Great video thx! 😀
my recommendation for the film rewind knob is to get a nikon f2 or a canon f1 (original) so you can have leica experience without all the leica bullshit...by the way whats the point in having a leica camera and not leica glass? the only real reason to prefer a leica over a nikon mechanical camera is the glass...sorry i just can stop hating on leica users...maybe i'm just jealous that i can't afford neither the camera or the lenses
I get it about the leica glass. i feel like i'm missing out on the full leica experience but once i get some more cash i'll definitely be looking into getting me a leica lens. most likely a 28mm lens
just a word of caution....keep that camera strap around your wrist at ALL times or a neck strap around your neck at ALL times because that 2 fingered grip you shown will fail you without warning , we are designed with 5 digits on our hands for a reason, trust me the sight of your most prized photographic possession obeying the laws of gravity and knowing that a Leica and a brick share the same inability to land softly on a concrete floor will make a grown man or woman shed tears.
It might be refurbished. M2's usually have chrome around the lens mount (same as M3). Yours is black like an M4. Also yours is a button rewind model. The rewind knob might be annoying but Leica went back to it in the M-A/M-P a reason: The M4-M6 style is more prone to breaking when it lands on it's side.
Thanks for the info. I definitely think it might be a refurbished model and thats cool to know about the rewind knob i think its starting to grow on me a little
You’ve gotta keep an eye for deals on eBay. Most likely will have some sort of cosmetic issue like rust or fading leather but as long as it functions properly shouldn’t be an issue. Also keep an eye on Facebook Marketplace daily. They go quickly once posted but it’s usually worth it.
Great video!

Thanks i'll try this!
Loved this video! Welcome to the Leica club! Let the addiction begin!
Yes! Thank you! already looking at other lenses and my bank account isn't happy with me
Great choice. My first Leica 40+ years ago was an M2 as well. I now have an M3, m4 and M8.
Damn great choices. Which one is your fav?
The rewind for me on an M2 feels authentic for me and I feel I'm using an old Leica.
Takes a bit of getting used to but I’m almost starting to like it

Thanks. That means a lot.

Thanks so much for sharing. I’ll definitely look into that meter and see if it’ll improve my shots

That’s definitely interesting in the summer it’s not a problem but winter time it gets a bit annoying.

Thanks for that note i'll definitely keep that in mind because i've been keeping my strap on one lug the whole time

Hello :3 I was so luck and i get my m4 from Sri Lanka ^^ I like Your Voice. So nice to hear You. Best Whishes ;)

I think there’s a typo in the sections. One says “Why the m6?”

Does it make your photos better?
Hey it doesn't make your photos better it just makes the experience of shooting better which may or may not lead to better photos
Let me know if you ever wanna sell your M2! I don't mind the rewind knob at all :)
I’ll definitely let you know
@@filmstockreelany chance about selling your M2?
Almost 50 years old? Your camera was manufactured in 1958. It’s 65!
Interesting. Where can I find this Leica M6, at the best price? Thanks!!

@@filmstockreel Thanks!!
Leica, Sennheiser and Volkswagen. 🇩🇪
Now you need a Leica lens.
if you've got one handy to send my way i'm more than willing to try it out...
@@filmstockreel I sold all my Leica glass but one. So no extras.
I can’t get over the painted nails. Distracting so I’m out
Ah! No worries. Thanks for stopping by. My daughter paints my nails sometimes so it’ll pop up in videos every now and then.
